I have a 68 Barracuda Formula S-340 and I need to replace the power steering pump, but am not sure the best place to get a new one. I am not sure if it is the Federal pump, which looks to be the one in my car. Was it a Federal pump or a Saginaw?
The pump currently in my car looks to be a Federal, but the pulley is off and I could never get it moved in correctly. Thanks

That is a Federal. I needed a new pulley for a Federal years ago, and had trouble sourcing a used one that wasn't bent.

If you're handicapable the best option is to rebuild it yourself. I think a kit is 20$?

I think it may be possible it is a TRW pump. The way to tell them apart is looking at the back. A small notch where the bracket bolts into is a Federal. If it has a bigger/ longer notch it is a TRW. Kim

The other issue I have is that the pulley is too far out from the pump, so the belt is offset. You can see it better on the first picture. I don't see anyway to adjust it.

Was this an A/C originally

Was it a car that was optioned for 3.55 or 3.91 gears?

Was it originally a automatic or 4-speed ?

those are factors what pump it came with originally

It has factory AC, it is an automatic. It currently has 3.23 gears in it.

the factory 68 small blocks with a/c have the tire/federal pump originally. There’s big 2 pc pulley on the vibration damper that I now see in the picture.

looks like the ac pump is removed now.

You can switch that to a Saginaw pump with proper brackets they repro new. The Saginaw’s are better pumps and easier and cheaper to find rebuilt. My 68 dart conv was originally a 273 A/C car and had that trw/federal pump. When it went bad I swapped it with the brackets to a Saginaw pump.

It looks like it is a Federal pump, so that is good to find out. Any ideas on where to get a replacement? I really don't want to send it off for a rebuild and have the car down. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Autoxcuda do you know where I can get just the pulley for the saginaw set up? Do they repro them? I am going from manual steering to power and have everything but the pump pulley.

i don’t have one. But is your setup for Aluminum water pump or Cast Iron. They seem to take different pulleys

The pulley alignment depth is easily adjusted with the correct tools on Federal or TRW pumps.

Based on the first photo though, something is mismatched, likely the pulley! That pulley diameter looks very small in my eye!

I should clarify the cars I had no a/c. Kim

it seems that way on non A/C cars

Would like to see original 340 non-A/C 3.55 or 3.91 gear cars. Many times Mopar put TRW or Federal pumps on those geared cars.
