What was your first car?

-
Mine was a 1963 two dr. Plymouth Savoy. Push button auto, /6. It had 28k Mi. paid $495 in 1967. You can't hardly buy tiers for that price now.

Haha.. an 88 Dodge Aries, took that thing off jumps, drove it through swamps, mud bogs, beat the craaaap out of it. Still started every morning. Put a good 500K on it. Guy offered me $800 for it. Went to drive it, tranny bone dry. Said he collected K cars.

I'm getting the feeling I may be the youngest guy on here. my first car is about 20 years newer than most listed here.

First car was a '94 Lebaron handed down from my dad. and you guys are probably going to hate the rest of this list.

-'92 Nissan 240sx liftback (still have it, project car)
-'90 Nissan 240sx liftback
-'95 Volvo 850
-'67 Ford Galaxie 'vert (still have it)
-'92 Infiniti M30 'vert
-'97 Acura 3.0CL (still have it, daily driver)
-'66 Plymouth Valiant (what steered me here, still have it)

63 dodge dart 4 door, jade i think was the color.never looked it up. curious. never gave it much thought./6 push button radio delete manual everything. ihadn't thought of it in forever. thanks for asking.

1966 Valiant 100 three-on-the-tree. Got it from my parents when I was 15. Drove it through high school and college. Put it in storage for years and then scraped it while kept all the good pieces for spares for my other Valiants.

I loved that car and that was the beginning of my Mopar addiction.

I was 4 years old, my dad did some work for a guy and he tried to pay my dad with a bottle of booze, my dad says "I don't drink but I will take that." he brings home a 27 T 2 door sedan body, frame and steering wheel. I had it until I was 12 when I traded it for a 73 El Camino, parted that out, got a 56 F-100 and a 79 Buick wagon, threw the subframe, motor, tranny and rear from the Buick in the truck (yes, I did my first subframe when I was 12). I sold that truck and it never stopped after that.

My dads buddy (pretty much my uncle) now owns the same 27 T that I had and it is still in the same condition as when I owned it.

1968 plymouth sport satellite, blue with blue interior 2 door hardtop, 318/auto trans. I bought it bu could not afford insurance, so I sold it and bought a motorcycle!

My first car was a 66 Dart GT. It had a slant 6 when i got it but my dad and I found a 340 and built it to put in that car. It was a pretty nice ride for a high school kid. Traded it for a pickup later on and regreted it ever since. Would like to get one again and build the car with my kids.

This topic comes up about once a year. My first car was a 69 Dart and it`s the reason I`m on this website now.

In 1979 I was a junior in High School, my grandmother told me I needed to get a car to drive back and forth to school and football practice, so I asked around at school and 3 seniors were selling their cars 1 was a 1968 mercury cyclone, red with dual black stripes down the top and the factory dual scoops, the second was a 1970 GTO white with 400 4 speed and the last car was a 1970 sublime Dodge Challenger - 318 automatic, the 1st 2 were priced at 1,500 and the challenfer was 1,200 but before I could buy it my grandmother would have to approve, well she picked the challenger because she liked the color and could see me coming for a mile, wish I still had that car but now I have got back into the mopar swing restoreing my 70 swinger that I paid 600 dollars for,any way the 70 challenger was my first car and some other firsts were involved with the car as well but that is another story.

i learned to drive in 1969 340 dart not mine but my dads my first car was a 1965 nova i will tell the story of the dart if anybody wants to read about it its kinda cool

Mine was a 1968 Chrysler 300 My Dad (RIP) bought for me for 100 bucks. It was a 440 car. I remember me and him constantly foolin with the power windows to try to get them to work. We could stuff bout 10 teenagers in the car, each pony up a buck for gas and off we'd go. I remember one night hangin out at the local Stuarts Dept store packing lot with my buddies who had a hot little Ventura and them taunting me to "Smoke em up" Well peer pressure and all I put the boots to it and the car ------------Stalled much to my horror and my friends roaring amusement. Well I thought maybe if I keep the revs up a little Well I started the car and hit again, The car went up in smoke burning rubber until I finally had to let off the gas! No more laughing then! A little redemption for the Mopar! I later sold the car to a guy who had to have it only to find out the frame was rotting out. It was a great first car though! Maybe that's why I've come back to Mother Mopar8)

Fun thread.

I got my license in '76 at 16 and drove mostly OP cars for the next couple years. (That's Other People's). Dad had a '64 Polara, 383 Push-button trans 4 door no-post hard top that I drove a lot. And later, a 74 (?) Duster, slant six auto, and we had an International Travelall with the large V-8/auto. And then there was Grandma's '69 Suburban 292 six/Powerglide. In my senior year, Dad picked up a '60's Fiat with a little 4 and four-speed on the column (!!). That one was a hoot to drive, and my buddy and I almost rolled it one night foolin' around.

I bought my first car once I got out of boot camp in San Diego, a avacado green Ferd Galaxie 500 with a 390/auto. This was the second gas crisis in '78-79 and I remember having to wait in gas lines on alternate days depending on if you license ended in odd or even numbers. And boy did that 390 like gas! My Navy buds and I called it "The Hulk" and one of them did a passable Hulk painting on the glove box door. I totaled it one night coming home from Sunset Cliffs. Truth, I was a little stoned and did not see the parked car I hit. With two cop cars there with their lights going, and a little Luv parked behind me with lights shining on my Galaxie, a very drunk driver in a second-gen Bronco plowed into the back of the Luv, bounced off the back of the Galaxie, side-swiped me and the cop, and caught my friend across the knee-caps, shattering one and pining his head between the front tire of the Bronco and the car I hit (a '72 Impala). The cop suffered a broken arm, I had minor bumps and bruises, my buddy had a shattered knee cap (and was lucky he didn't have a head injury) and the Bronco drivers young daughter ended up with a broken leg!

I was young and stupid and uninsured. There was an open fifth of tequila under the seat, a six pack of beer in the back seat, and an ounce in my friends pocket. I did not even get a ticket, but the Bronco driver ended up spending 3 years in the pen. (felony drunk driving). I happily finished paying off my totaled Ferd, and payed for 1/2 of the Impala.

For some reason I never complained when the booze wasn't in the car when I went to the tow company to retrieve my personal property from the car. My buddy got an extra 2 week vacation at home in Chicago (and the nurse at Balboa Navy hospital made the ounce disapear, so there were never any problems with that) so he was not all that pissed.

It's amazing I've lived as long as I have!

My first car I bought was a 1969 Dodge Polara, 318/Auto. Had factory AM radio with one rear speaker, low-back bucket seats, vinyl roof, and the hard to find,(now) single halogen headlight that was mounted in the grill to the drivers side of the center of the grill. That was in 1979 and I paid $300 for the car out of someones front yard.
My sons first car is the 1974 Dodge Dart Swinger pictured. Paid $1,000 for it from the original owners son this past September. He's 14 and it's our father/son project. It also has a 318/auto.

Mine was a 1972 ElCamino. My old man purchased it in 1976. He always said he would hand it over to me and in 1986 when I hit 16 I had the keys. It was his baby. He kept it garaged and always waxed . It was in close to mint condition black with black interior and a black top. 9 months after I got her I wasn't paying attention and pulled out infront of a brand new 1987 oldsmobile. The olds was totaled out but the ElCamino would shine again about 8 years later. I helped him rebuilt it after it sat for about 7 years. He even took it to car shows afterwards. I had to buy a 1978 nova for 800 bucks to get me back and forth to school. My first Mopar was in 89. I picked up a 1968 Roadrunner clone for $1500 bucks. It had a built 440 and was one bad azz ride.

Well I think this is the oldest car in this thread. First car was 54 Dodge 4 dr. with the little Red Ram 241 Hemi and 2 spd powerflite auto trans. I loved the engine & hated slushbox trans. Bought 55 Plymouth 4 dr Savoy with manual trans and then swapped the hemi engine into it. I loved that car and drove it thru highschool and into college for 5 years until a wreck and sold it to friend who fixed it and drove it forever.
First new car after college was 70 Duster 340 with 4 spd, 8-3/4 w 3.91. That was a fast and fun car. We drove that car all over the country. My wife & I loved it and wished we could have kept it but had to sell it because couldn't get premium fuel and baby on the way. Always been mopar fan, always will. 35year old pix attached.

1970 Maverick $150 200 six
The first thing I asked my friend was "A V-8 fits in there right?" I then bought a '65 country squire wagon for the 289 v-8 transplant. The car adiction hasn't stopped since!

My first car was a White 1975 PLymouth Valiant 4-door /6 auto i got when i was 17. DOg dish wheel covers and the most beautiful Dash i had seen for such an old car. Mom bought it for me for $550 bucks from an 80 year old man. Drove it for my senior year, back fired like a crazy guy and left me twice, once at Farmers country market from a flooded carb, (mommy came to the rescue after i was gone for an hour) and the second time was at Wally word (accross town) and me and my buddy walked over a mile (wit core in hand) to an auto zone to get a starter, put in on and away we went. Had many good times in that car that summer, that chapter in my life was called the Summer of the Valiant. Ended up totalling it on my way to the movies wit some buddies. Lost vision in my right eye, got a semi cool scar on my eye, but lost the Valiant. cannibalized it when my friends gave me my second car (74 Dart custom) that i still own. And then sold the shell to my local sherriffes (and fellow mopar nut) officer Jeff. He wanted the disc brake setup for his 58 fury. (Christine??). I miss that car so much, i actually cried when i saw it in the boneyard :'( next to the totalled 98 suburban that took us out. Since then i have owned this short list of these cars.....

1974 Dart Custom- Primer wit a super six 15 ince 225 Torque Thrust D, MSD, Alluminum intake, 2 1/2 Borla Exhaust Alpine stereo system.

1999 Ford Mustang GT- Five speed Flat Black with upgraded suspension, Hooker cat-back exhaust and 275 G-Force BFGs in the back. (no longer mine after a total)

My Baby!! 1973 Dart Swinger-318 auto wit white gauges, New interior, new motor, and newly added subframes. Got new wheels wit Toyo Spectrum 205 pizza cutters! I love my Swinger <3 <3

When I was 15 I bought a 65 Ford F-150 with money I'd saved Mowing lawns.
The Day before I turned 16 my dad who worked for a Ford dealer, took my truck to work. I was hoping he was going to put some custom wheels on it for
my Birthday. Instead he showed up with a Red 67 Mustang coupe, 289 4bbl, dual exhaust, 4 speed, with slotted mags and 60 series tires.

Turned out he had traded my truck and a couple hundred bucks for the stang.

Maybe the best birthday present ever.

Within two weeks I was awarded at ticket for "excessive tire noise"

fun times

My first car was a '73 Cuda 340. Autumn Bronze Metalic with a black vinyl top. The original owner lived down the street and I watched the car as I grew up. One day I was coming home from golfing with my boss and there was that Cuda sitting at a Quickie oil change place. The guy wanted 2900.00 I got him down to 2600.00. I had that car from my junior year of high school(1985) to around '91 or so. I sold it to get something that would hold it's value better! It was a 73 and they weren't worth $hit LOL. It was gonna need body work and I didn't think it was woth puttting any more money in it. All matching numbers. I sold it to a kid who wrecked it twice. Then he let it sit outside under a tarp for a year and when he uncovered it there wasn't much left. He parted it out and has the drivtrain and whatever else from it in a 318 cuda. He's gonna paint it that crayola crayon yellow/green color mopar had. I miss that car everyday. It was the $HIT in highschool. I went to my 10 year reunion and that was all everyone asked me about. Every time they did it was like daggers in my heart. Young and dumb. Who knows I might end up with another one. I can't believe I did this sober.
