Where the guitar players? ...at?

that looks like a bigsby tremolo but I don't see the trademark, hmm, a Gibson product?

it’s an original Gibson piece. The whole guitar is in as bought condition. The pickups have a growl that I’ve seldom heard in guitars, especially today’s modern windings. My son has one of my old LP’s, but I regularly see this in his room!

I've been playing (sort of) since 1964. Had a garage band starting in late '64.

My first guitar was a Kay archtop... traded that in for a new '64 Fender Duo-Sonic. Kept that and bought a '64 Gretsch Country Gentleman. Then a fretless J-bass. Then I bought a huge red sparkle Slingerland drum set for our drummer...he was a dirt poor Mexican who's family could not afford to buy him a set.

All that ended when we went to practice at the drummers house... they lived in the back of an old retail store. We had the store front for rehersals. They got evicted and took all of our band equipment with them... my stuff plus an SG, a Jassmaster, '63 white Tolex bassman (mine), a twin 24" Fender custom bottom with a Bandmaster top (also mine), our lighting system (X-mas tree spotlights!), the sax players stuff, a Fender electric piano and more. I had my Duo-Sonic at home...

That ended my playing days for 10 years or so. Goofed off with guitars until mid-90's when I started a couple new groups. Played country and oldies plus vintage rock.

I collected Memphis-made St. Blues guitars for 15 years. Had 10 in my collection. Sold most off on ebay to overseas buyers when I needed cash. Had a Mary Kay '57 Strat from the Custom Shop. A '73 triple sunburst Tele. A nice MIM Tele I painted '73 Ford baby blue. A bunch of others.

Now I have an Indonesian Strat and a Chicom Epiphone LP Jr. I bought for $54.00 at a pawn shop.

Yes, it's an Envoy 110. Cost me a whopping $10 at a yard sale.

Bet it gets it done in the living room!

Once upon a time, I could still hear. And I am a music nut going back 50 years now. So yes, I've been known to crank up the volume on occasion. However, those days are mostly behind me. This little guy will run me out of the room at about volume six.

Here’s a shot of my sons guitar. It was my brothers guitar, handed down to me and then to my son. It’s a great guitar, he likes it and that makes him want to play all the more. Somehow, I don’t know how, but all my shtuff always ends up in his room. Currently, I believe every member of his band is playing on my equipment! I guess that makes me the manager?

My 1976 Fender P-Bass and early 80's Ibanez Roadstar. I've had the Ibanez since high school and still love the sound of it. I've had older and newer guitars, but they never had the right sound or feel.

I play a little guitar. Kind of a guitar gearhead but nothing crazy. I've had my '83 Marshall JCM 800 100W and '79 Les Paul Standard almost 30 years. Just got the Marshall 2045 2x12 last year, has vintage greenbacks in it, it's amazing. The little Fender sounds like a Marshall, it's a 1983 Champ II with a pull knob gain. The Laney is newer, LA30BL. Its really loud for 30W.
The natural V is a '75, the black one is a 1983 Greco. Save for the pickups you can't tell the difference between the two. The natural Les Paul Jr. is from 2010, as a Guitar Center "exclusive" with a coil tap and tobacco burst finish which was stripped off and the pickup was replaced with a vintage-style PAF. The white SG Special is also a Greco from the mid-'80s. Someone before I got it grafted a Gibson logo on the headstock. Amazing guitar.
Have a bunch of cool pedals too but my sound is basically overdriven.

Here's my 1974 Ovation I bought off my friends uncle close to 20 years ago for a pack of cigarettes...

20200424_180619.jpg

I hadn't touched it for close to 10 years as it's been sitting in my parents house and I had them ship it to me 2 weeks ago.

Got it completely serviced, adjusted the action, new strings and fret adjustments were made.

Been playing it every day lately!

Here's my 69. I have several other axes, but this has been my favorite since about 1975 ;) Got the old Mace new in 78, other than replacing them big old 6L6 tubes every so often it's proven to be pretty much bullet proof and a beast of an amp.

Be well my fellow guitar slingers,
Pat

Love that black and white V.

A couple of years ago I went on a "collect the iconic guitar styles" kick.

I got an SG, an LP Special, and a V. All Epiphone.

Each was $100 or less, and all play great. All black, too as are all my others.

The V is the "goth" edition and I can't find it in the online epi catalog.
All the others are there, but no V.

Around the same time I bought that Charvel, I also bought an '84 Marshall lead 75 1x12 combo.
That thing rocks. It has the sweetest, easy to manipulate controlled sustainable feedback EVER.
There is a sticker on the circuit board with "Linda" on it.

THANKS, LINDA!

Let's get out the pedals, next! Stupid little colored boxes have turned into collectible little turds, haven't they?

The only pedal I own is a wah.

OK, I own 2- one is a vintage Cry-baby from the 70's, the other an Ibanez weeping demon optical.

Indeed.

I try not to drown the amp tone with effects, they are all basically just icing on the proverbial cake. The MXR EQ is always in my chain as a signal boost and I rotate the overdrive pedals before it. The modulation pedals go after the EQ. I don't use them much but sometimes they can enhance the drive if used in a subtle way.

My usual deviation from a heavy/distorted/crunch tone is the original Univibe sound which is what the red Drybell and large Captain Coconut box thing do. Frankly, it doesn't always translate well with Gibson style guitars but it's close enough. The Drybell is awesome, gets really close to the original Shin Ei sound that Hendrix/Trower used. The CC did not turn out to be as good as I thought it would be and I hardly ever use it. Again, might just need to have a Fender guitar pushing through it to bring out the magic, the fuzz overwhelms the signal to the point of being unusable.

I'd like to own an original UniVibe but spending $2K on a vintage pedal is above my pay grade.

Funny thing is... I have all these boxes but for decades I just went straight into that Crate Stealth. Then, for less watts, the Bravo.

Lately, I've been overdrive - distortion - amp. The airy effects collect dust. I pull them out now and then.

That Metal Zone is one of the 'turds' I mentioned. I picked it up in a sweetheart deal just to see if the buzz was true.

It is.
