Who Makes Cams

at what it takes to feed higher rpms...the higher the exhaust flow there needs to be. ratio is dependent on lots of variables..maybe chamber/burn efficiency/comp ratio..you can cam around this.
but they basically have a rule of thumb, well some do..I'm in the 67-75% for NA club.lol
Its what split pattern cams work around too

There is a point that where if ur not too careful...you'll over scavenge and pull raw fuel right out the exhaust.

Damn, this is deeper than I ever imagined !! I just want an awesome cam for street light to light confrontations and trips to the strip !!I had one of Mopars 528/278 (?)cams that was fun,but the gear shattered on me !! I ended up with a 468/276 that was still peppy enough,I just want to take this motor a step or two higher !!Maybe even look at a Paxton ??

Yeah another member here had a .436 MP cam that I installed, damn oil pump drive gear went away on it about a month or so later too and the motor spun all the rod bearing out of it...
I had never heard of any problems like that till then, it had never happened to me.

When I was really into these...they had a .528/284*, a .490/276*, a .460/268*, and a .436/256* if I remember right.

thats why im not a big believer in all these split pattern cams with bigger exh specs... its bad idea lol...

ok so here is what crane had to say...

Good morning,
We no longer make camshafts for this engine but we could regrind a suitable core. The closest I can come to the specs you’re looking for would be duration @ .050” of 248 deg with valve lift of .540”. The lash is .026 so net lift is .514”. We could change the LSA of the donor core as much as 2 degrees during the regrind process. The cost to regrind your cam is $126.00 plus shipping.

Thanks,

Mike Covello

Price doesn't sound bad !!! To my ignorant mind, the lift and duration numbers don't sound too bad either !!But again, what do I know ??

Hell,Daytona Beach, I could just drive up in person !! I may just copy that info and go talk with them ! Those numbers may just work for my application !!

I take you've decided to forego the option of a turbo, for now....

That cam would not be necessary with a turbo motor, and in fact, would not work well at all with boost.

You need to think twice before you go down this N-A road; you're giving up lots of horsepower and getting in return, a lumpy idle, poor driveability around town, probably significant gas mileage, and the necessity for a rear axle ratio that will not work well on the highway.

And, in the end, you'll end up with performance far short of what boost can provide.

But, it's not MY car; you need to do what makes YOU happy, and I need to butt out...

I'm going to do that; this is not "my call..."

I apologize for my overbearing, CONTROLLING, obnoxious comments...

Dunno what got into me...:sad11:I'm sorry...

but just so you know im planning on boosting the 63 dart with a 6 for a really good milage driver...

here is oregon cam grinders

Ed,

I do have a grind close:

1694e

246/246 @ .050", 274/274 advertised(.020"), .562"/.562" lift(before lash), .020" lash

This cam requires a minimum of .904" lifter diameter.

Thanks

hey no worries bill! like you said there is more than one way to have fun!

Aren't our lifters the .904 already ??

yes we have a 904 lifter

ok so i found the goddess of cams from oregon cams (ken)... you ready???

408 lobe lift x 1.4 rockers = .571 before lash
252 duration @ .050, 292 adv

the kicker is that it needs a 1" lifter lol...

so now the next door opens and finding a compatible 1" lifter...

wow...this just got expensive for you.lol
next stop, block disassembly to hone out the lifter bores for these 1'' lifters u speak of.

what centerline?

Better question.....what cam core? No way a stock cam will grind to that. Is this a roller design?

And those numbers look like what with the 1.5ish stock rockers or 1.6's ??

sounds like the cam chris ground for my stroker with limited 9.9 'at the time' compression- .383 lobe/.573 @1.5 284*adv w/252*@.050 on a 110...good cam, fast...power everywhere...but the core had porosity on one lobe....so Im having them regrind for $60 and Ill use it in my 340 or something later on.

the cam cost me 160 back then, but i know him and mark engle 'chris isnt related'....doug sold the company btw to guy who could care less about cams....hes more into the volks/porche bs kit cars they are pushing...
