Write up or guide available for alternator pulley install?

I am all about "making things work" but there are the rare occasions that you really need a specific tool to get it done and this is one of them IMO. Another reason I like the NP alternators; pulleys come right off, no issues.

Are those held on with a nut? (threaded alternator shaft)

Murray has posted good info here.
What about wiping of the fan assy, where the brushes ride

Clean the slip ring. Eraser and electrical contact cleaner.
That alternator is missing the grease shield. Typical of rebuilds.

Never said why you are swapping pulley.
A lot of the new ones seem to have incorrect dimensions, including too much of an interference fit. Probably some cost saving measure.

search for a thread I started called alternator show and tell
and yes, of course look at the shop manual.

Unless the press has a force gage or pressure gage on it, you'll have to measure the depth and mark the pulley before you install it.

Alternator repair, a little show and tell.

Yes, very easy to remove and replace. I get the alternators from the local parts store, then sometimes replace the pulley with a single Vee. If you get one from a 89 Dakota it has a twin Vee pulley.

Got the pulley swapped out, before i took the old pulley off i laid a piece of steel plate to where the edge rested on the housing perpendicular to the groove, took a sharpie and laid it in the groove and made a mark on the plate for depth, pressed the new aluminum pulley on and put it where the dot on the plate lined back up with the tip of the sharpie sitting in the groove.
