Stop in for a drink.

Cheap whiskey ain’t good and good whiskey ain’t cheap.
While that may be generally true... The EC small batch is actually pretty cheap at under 30 and not bad. From reading reviews, you can overpay for some rough stuff or get some very drinkable at a reasonable price. But yes, you will have to pay more for most of the best ones... I guess my area being a bunch of rednecks, does not stock much high end. A lot of the ones TMM puts up are not on our shelves. The small batch was only Elijah C I saw. While I was 'shopping' there were 2 other customers in the aisle very briefly. One grabbed a big bottle of Jim Beam without looking at anything else. Other guy grabs the biggest bottle of Jack. Takes one step and hesitates - grabs a second one and heads for the checkout...

Those Beam and Jack drinkers are mixers. Nothing wrong with that. I was a Black Velvet/7 drinker for years. I tried their BV Reserve for a few extra dollars and liked it. Much smoother. I wanted to cut some calories by not drinking so much soda and really didn't enjoy whiskey/water. Over a year ago I joined Cedar Valley Malt Manifesto's a whiskey tasting group and the rest is history. I really enjoy trying whiskeys, bourbons, single malts and Scotch. We drink them neat with out ice, water, or mix and have fun picking out the flavors and nuances in both the smell, taste, and aftertaste.

Only a week ago we were shoveling snow...today we had over 1.5” of rain. It was only 41* and it easily could have been snow and very likely would have been over 12” of the heavy wet kind if the conditions were just a little different.

Thankfully, it was just rain. I’m good with that, I don’t have to shovel rain.

Having some cold beer in celebration of liquid precipitation rather than the frozen kind.

Cheers!

So here ya go. My buddy showed up from Iowa with all this in tow. We did a tasting last night and had I remembered my notes I would add them. My thought clarity was in question when I left the shop and notes remained there. Very interesting. More to follow! I vaguely remember that my hand writing deteriorated and that I was thinking I had trouble pouring water into small sample cups TMM had me purchase! Eye hand dexterity is a thing!

That black label will make me tip over. Note to self, pour it in a glass, don't just drink it out of a bottle.

Enough of all that Rye humor, time to get back to a solid single malt! Tonight we are sipping a nice little toddy from Scotland. If you do not like yours super Smokey and with heavy peat this is for you. I don’t like the heavy smoke accents. This is just straight up yummy!

I'm with ya'. Started with Ryemageddon, switched to Buffalo Trace and I might end up with a little single malt before the night is over.

Hope to pick up a bottle of Bookers this afternoon. Nope, won't be in until Monday.

That's 2 failed bottles today. Dennis just called and said he was busy today. Hopefully he will drop off his bottle this weekend or the first of the week. He had the "Pigskin" bottle which is very good.

I'm heading over to see John and Jody soon and need to find a good bottle to take with me.
Any suggestions Toolman.

The label on the back says
"No Water
No Filters
No ****"
Crazy portugee dairyman.
Bottled in his milking barn in the finest used and sterilized bottles the local Elk's Lodge could send him

Starting with a dram of Buffalo Trace. That is starting to be my daily driver. Our local Grocery store wine and spirits has a barrel pick Knob Creek. It's a 115 proof rye. I'll check it out. If it's good and you guys want a bottle I can buy quantity. I get 10% off for a case.
