Does the S.V. clear the hood or did it need to be cut?

    Super Victor port matching

I've read up on burr finish vs. smooth. At one point when grinding the S.V. I realized that you need to be pretty accurate to leave the burr finish especially around the edges. I have a good feel for how the burrs work now so I suppose I could go back and rough up the smoothed areas but I'm not...

John, as far as I can tell, no one is disagreeing with you. I basically said exactly what you just wrote in two of my posts. When I talked with them on the phone, I told them straight up that there was no way I could justify that kind of cost for my application. They understand, it's not for...

    Super Victor port matching

Regardless of what Wilson does or charges, I'm happy with the way my intake came out. After trashing the first one, a couple hundred bucks for another intake is not going to break the bank plus I learned how to do stuff in the process. Home porting FTW.

    Super Victor port matching

There's more to it than the finish. In talking to them it seemed like they really focus on getting everything equalized internally (volume, taper) which is what takes the most time. They probably cut more intakes in half than not for that reason. Had I decided to use that hacked up Victor...

    Super Victor port matching

Thanks Don. Had I done a better job with the Victor I probably would have went with it. Since I had to get another intake anyway the Super Victor was the obvious choice. I'm hoping it will fit under a flat hood but it's fine if I have to get a scoop.

    Super Victor port matching

Their competition porting service starts at $2K though they do offer a less-involved 'intermediate' service for around $1,200. Of course they suggest the comp. service first! Just realize that to get the best results with either choice you ship them your heads. Shipping a set of heads back and...

Thanks Turk! The Pie Wagon probably could've used some port matching.

    Super Victor port matching

Just to put a bow on this, this is the port lineup now looking down the plenum from either side. This is basically what I was trying to achieve and I'm good with it. The blue is Dykem on the passenger side head, the pink is the gasket. (Superformance) Again, cutting these gaskets sucks. Maybe...

    Super Victor port matching

Thanks, I appreciate that. I try to compose them as best as I can, it's not that easy. I called Wilson and filled out their inquiry form but that's as far as it went. I was prepared to hear a high price but it was literally triple what I thought it would be. Honest to god, to have them do a...

    Super Victor port matching

Thanks. The Victor can be welded or epoxied for sure but the Victor was not right for my application anyway so it wasn't worth the expense or effort. The whole intake is really uneven especially up into the runners. I knife-edged the dividers and they ended up getting wavy so it's not just the...

    Super Victor port matching

Thanks all. To be honest, I learned what not to do previously by destroying a perfectly good Victor 340. I tried to do too much to it and it got away from me pretty quick. That one is not savable, trust me. (see below) The Victor is a good intake but it's too short for my particular application...

To these heads. (BPE) Intake ports are 2 1/2" tall and a few thousandths wider than standard gasket opening size. Gaskets hung over the roof and floor too much to leave alone. Looking down the runner through the plenum things line up much better now. So (thankfully) this is an older Super...

    Help with connectors

Those are Packard 56. Any automotive electrical supply place that caters to older cars should have them. Del City Consider getting the proper crimping tool. It can be done without it but the right tool will yield better results.

"They"??? I'm really curious about this piece and it's history. It's also sort of astounding that in Sept. of 2024 you were able to locate one and had the opportnity buy it. I imagine someone like Ted Spehar or Sox would have had access to something like that when they were actively racing...

The Great Pumpkin - '71 Duster

Did some intake port matching on the Victor 340. This was how the intake started. Someone before me gasket matched it to a regular-size Fel Pro intake gasket. The ports on the BPE heads are huge - 2.5" tall x 1.8" wide. The intake gasket had to be cut larger to match the opening as it hung...

The Great Pumpkin - '71 Duster

Got something done yesterday that has been bugging me for a couple years - figuring out and executing an instrument cluster arrangement. This story is a perfect example of all the unnecessary and overwrought drama I put myself through on every last detail of this car. It's no wonder why it's...

Carlisle 2024 photos - post them here

Every year I take a bunch of pictures at Carlisle. Instead of posting every single one of them here I upload them to my Google page - it's easy to see them in a gallery format and it's less work for me. The link below will take you to the gallery. It's not all A body stuff but whatever, just...

    Carlisle post show thoughts

Carlisle is the best, the highlight if my summer. Been going since the ‘90s. I love having a vendor spot even if I don’t sell anything. I’ll never understand any negativity about the show. I did OK selling this year especially since I had mostly low dollar items. Gotta make stuff presentable...

    Carlisle parts N135-136

I did the round-trip-in-one-day thing once or twice when I was in my 20s and had no money and I don't recommend it at all. Stay in a hotel after the meet, you will be glad you did. I know it's an extra cost but it's better than the alternative. I know the turnpike and/or 80 between Carlisle and...
