Life after Holley Sniper - back to Carb

The Edelbrock AVS2 1906 (650 CFM) would do well for you. With its annular boosters you'll get superior throttle response. I too, like you, tried the earlier model without success. If you go with a 1906 I encourage you to also get the tuning kit so you can zero in on just what the engine wants.

6.4/8hp70 finally up and running and ready

Great lookin' ride! Hope you can get some of that torque to the ground!!!

    intake and carb suggestions?

I certainly agree to a point, but when that 650 is howling the airflow velocity is excellent!

    intake and carb suggestions?

Think he would be much happier with a 650 since he will be running in stock trim. I put a 650 onto my warmed over 440 and it ran just great.

    intake and carb suggestions?

    I believe the AVS2 is only 500, 650 and 800

    intake and carb suggestions?

For your build, I would recommend an Edelbrock AVS2-650 carb. Super reliable, excellent low speed response and you'll get decent fuel economy. The Performer intake is an excellent choice as well.

    Exhaust Manifold Rear Bolt

Many of the aftermarket aluminum heads, such as the Trickflow 240's I have, do not do that. The holes are "blind" and do not go into the water jacket.

    Thermostat gasket leaking AGAIN!!!!

+1 for RealGaskets. Same issue on my 440, but no more!!!

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

I was told the same thing. I listened to my builder instead of looking at the bottom of the cam card where it said I should use "steel". My fault for not doing my homework. I should have "trusted and verified". Expensive lesson.

    Questions about trickflow heads

I would call TF and ask the question.

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

Yeah, and what about all that debris from the worn bronze gear getting into your engine? Ask me how I know. The "sacrificial" gear sacrificed my engine.

    Radio antenna

I used to be an amateur radio operator and had a lot of fun playing with different antenna types. What was important, as you say, was getting the Standing Wave Ratio down for transmitting. Transmitters do not like high SWR's!

    Radio antenna

Ha ha! We actually learned on the old Kleinschmits in school, then "upgraded" to the KSR's in the field!!! Hey, nothing like 75 baud data rates, right?! Did 5 punch paper tape for awhile as an aux device on our Streamliner system. Even though my security clearance is long gone, I sure would like...

    Radio antenna

Yes sir. I was in CRITICOMM communications and served with both AF and Navy guys who were not deployed on ship. We always had fun with ribbing the navy guys and they us. What was great was how well we all worked together when the mission was on.

    Radio antenna

Only the "squids" would have access to such a large transmitter & the frequencies thereof! Regards from your Air Force brother!

    Base Timing Questions

I understand where you're coming from, but MVA does more than that. It also provides additional timing when vacuum is high while cruising. Ported VA was something the mfr's did for emissions, not performance. Your engine could certainly be tuned to allow for MVA, and you would likely gain MPG's...

    Base Timing Questions

That is not "normal" behavior. As the throttle is advanced, the vacuum the engine produces drops thus the vacuum advance drops off as a result. As the engine RPM's increase, the mechanical advance comes into play which makes up for the loss of vacuum advance timing. Some vacuum advance units can...

If there was a leak at the wheel cylinders, the MC fluid level would go down. The OP said the fluid level has not changed, so back to the MC being bad.
  22. Ricks70Duster340

    to much fluid?

Generally, the rule of thumb is to initially add 4 quarts of fluid then start the engine and let it idle in neutral with parking brake on. Add fluid until the fluid level comes up to ADD. Move the shifter through the gears to purge air from the various clutches/servos. Be sure the fluid is still...

Rough idle turned to crank then ka-thunk

Timing chain slipped (wonder if the timing gear teeth are tipped like the OE plastic ones were) or dist drive gear is damaged

    Griifin

I have a friend on another forum that bought an ECP for his Challenger. Was supposed to be a direct fit, but was anything but. He was not happy with their (non-existent) customer service too. He bought the setup with the dual electric fans.

Do you use a shroud too? If so, what kind?

    FYI on motors that smoke

The one thing I did like about those vans is once the dog house is off, it is a lot easier to get to the BACK of the engine and the carb! The front, not!
  28. Ricks70Duster340

    Griifin

So it cools fine in traffic/low speeds but gets hot at highway speeds? Is there a coil of wire in your lower radiator hose? If not it can collapse at higher RPM's and cause poor water flow.

    universal air conditioning and heater

I have a Vintage Air in my Challenger. Even fully charged it does not get really cold, but cool. The evap is probably 1/2 the size of an original one and the condenser is mounted right up against the radiator. Yes, they fit the car for the most part, but they are also a compromise. I agree 100%...

QA1 or PST for upper control arms?

Yep, you can dial in just about as much caster as you want.
