    LA blocks

Has anyone ever weighed the different LA blocks (preferably virgin) to perhaps get a hint of how much metal difference each has or have the resources? (early 360, late 360, '80s pre roller, roller blocks & Magnum) Add sonic testing the cylinder walls and a clearer picture may emerge. (Preferably...

Do I need a deeper pan to shift above 6500rpm?

Hopefully your trans isn't slipping 5-700 rpm at the shift points. Type F fluid has been a popular choice to firm up shifts and performance synthetic trans fluids tend to last longer because they are more resistant to heat and breakdown. I also preferred 4.2 kickdown levers. If your shift lite...

    What do they mean

Because the number starts with a 3, it means that the driver claimed Division 3 as his home division, most likely in NHRA. It may include Illinois; Indiana; Kentucky; Michigan; Ohio; Wisconsin; and Western Ontario, Canada. I don't know if NHRA had any different states in Div. 3 decades ago. The...

Link Leaf - Don Carlton ?

Politics. Then NHRA turned around and wouldn't let Chrysler run a Colt with a Hemi. At least the other sanctioning bodies allowed it and later NHRA did allow Arrows, Horizons & Chargers (2.2)

Link Leaf - Don Carlton ?

Don Carlton, with factory backing and Chrysler engineers, did an incredible amount of testing in every facet of Pro Stock racing - aerodynamics, hood scoops, transmissions (clutchflite), suspensions (leaf-link) , etc. It didn't matter how "weird" it seemed. In testing the car was loaded with...

    Are dart sports mostly gone

I'm pretty sure that Chrysler made more Dusters than Dart Sports over the years, and rust has been a problem on both models. But Duster styling remained more popular and that kept more of them in running condition. Besides the front clip, taillights and minor details, they are the same car. When...

Weird 904 to 408 magnum starter interference issue. Dakota starter won't fit? 64 push button trans. is that the problem?

I once had a problem with a mini-starter hitting the block but I never figured out what particular application that starter was for/from. I don't recall the year of the block either. It never happened again with several different OEM and aftermarket mini-starters. Like moparlvr166, I had to...

[Found!] 73 Dart Sport hood with cutouts for factory hood scoop.

Do you happen to know anyone coming down to the Daytona Turkey Run (Florida) at the Speedway? I have 1-2 hoods (would need to check condition) and a hole saw that I believe cuts to 4 1/8".

    Help identify these heads

Good heads. I picked up at least 2 tenths switching from unported 587 heads with 1.88/1.60 valves to unported Indy LAX with 1.92/1.625 valves with 4-5cc smaller chambers. Head prep & the rest of the engine stayed the same.

    Sizing spiral locks

Spirolox have been .990" for Mopar small block pistons. I'm pretty sure thickness has been .042" or .044" with some manufacturers using 2 per piston and some 4 per piston. But the original manufacturer is the best place to get them from. Always hated trying to take the old ones out.

    3.31” Crankshafts

I've seen OEM 273 rods run successfully in race applications but the ones Mopar sold through Direct Connection, including their standard size 340/360 version, were forged from 4340 material, like Scat I-beam and many H-beams rods today. Eagle SIR I-beam are made from 5140 material and I'm pretty...

    3.31” Crankshafts

Thanks. I wasn't sure since (if I remember correctly), forged steel is heavier than cast iron so the crank counterweight would be a factor. May have changed piston weight?

    3.31” Crankshafts

Some forged pistons, like SRP, are lighter than hypereutectic pistons, at least in 360 applications. A LA 360 with aftermarket I-beams & SRP pistons will take little, if any, mallory metal. But I would give up a little weight and go with Scat I-beam instead of Eagle I-beam because they are...

    Choke Horn Removal

It seems like the choke tower can create an imbalance in air flow and/or booster signal between the primaries & secondaries. While the difference may be small and obviously works in OEM configuration, forced induction may magnify the situation to an unacceptable level. Calling some turbo...

    Swap meet at Garlits place

I've been there a few times over the last few years but not last year. For me it was the slowest I've seen in swap meet traffic and it seemed to have less vendors/sellers. May have been due to the 2 recent hurricanes that went through Florida, the economy & elections. I expect next year to pick...

    Which spacer is best?

Canton Racing has a wide variety of phenolic spacers including tapered 4-hole. I didn't make any comparisons, but the 1" phenolic tapered 4-hole was what I used on my 360 Dart Sport. Better insulating qualities than aluminum with the tapered bores, or whichever style you choose. As with most...

75 dart sport front bumper interchange

No, Dart has the wrong contours for the grille because Darts have a more obvious "beak" and do not interchange bracket-wise anyway (early vs late). For both Darts & Dusters, the most obvious external difference is that the later bumpers have extra mounting points near the top on either side of...

    Is/was there ever a 340 Magnum

Yes, I'm pretty sure you are correct - except I believe that cam was only used in 1968 sticks. May have had a dual point distributor too. But the HP remained the same. They may have mentioned it in the ads but didn't make any comparisons suggesting that one was better/more potent/faster than the...

    Is/was there ever a 340 Magnum

If OP Brooks James is referring to the actual engine specs.....There was only one version of a 340 for each respective year, no different specs (except 1970 340-6 in T/A and AAR E-bodies). "FOUR BARREL", "MAGNUM", it was all marketing. MAGNUM was a Dodge thing, just like Dodge & Plymouth each...
