    Dambest carbs, anyone using one

What's interesting about the Dambest carb is the emulsion well design and booster outlet. From what I could tell from the design is that his approach is to increase mixture quality with a threaded main well and then distribution and homogenization with booster outlet design. Might be worth a...

Show me 4 barrel kick down linkage 74 dart sport - picture attached

Looks like the wrong rod to me. Doesn't look like the slot is pulled all the way up to the throttle, so it is too short as well as all the wrong bends. FYI, only the rod shown is wrong. The rod that goes down behind the block and the one from there to the trans are the same between the 2bbl...

AVS2 carb tuning. Anyone with experience out there?

I understand what you're saying but the T-slot is faster at providing fuel when you open the throttle rapidly than the pump shot does. You can play around with different IAB and IFR sizes to see what the carb wants.

    360 Idle Quality

Thanks for the detailed response. I'll have to read over this several times to absorb even a portion of it. You are probably right in that the initial advance is now too high. There is a good jolt when I put the car in gear. I'll continue to work on it on the weekends, and may advance or...

Carb tuning, larger accelerator pump nozzle?

Thanks, I'm defiantly not chasing hard AFR numbers. The last time i had it off, the T Slot slit was not over exposed. It was somewhere in the .030-.035 range. It responds to idle tuning quite well and drives a bit fat but I want to work this lean stumble out which is manageable where I have it...

    360 Idle Quality

Currently I have about the same sized cam in my 367, she measures 276/286/110 at .008 tappet. It's in at 108, or was some 18 years ago. She idles down just fine to 550rpm at 5 degrees ignition advanced. AND, weith a 4-speed, pulls herself around the parking lot, with NO toe on the clutch. She...

Custom Sanden compressor brackets for 1965 273

...an old garage door opener (such scrap can be golden) to weld on ears to the intake bolt and Sanden pivot ear. I tapped a 3/8-24 hole for aft slot clamp bolt. Note that the curved slots in fwd and aft brackets are on a radius to the same Sanden ears, which keeps them matched as the...

Thanks. Leave the IFR as-is? I think they're set at .035 but I may not be remembering that right.

this is for manual steering and in pretty good shape.not 100% correct as it was made from a column shift and has the extra slot on the bottom.lower bearing is used but has a new t/s switch and a rebuilt coupler with the clip to keep it sealed.285.00 plus the ride from ga.30052.pp plus the fee.pm...

    Tuning my 360 la motor

Why 4.10s? Because that cam power peaks around 5300 and with iron heads at 4300 ft elevation, that cam will have no bottom end, no matter what the crate-motor compression ratio is. So then, to get off the line in a reasonable manner, without stalling or reving/sliping the clutch out, the 4.10s...

...sized and mapped it’s pretty easy to change brass and block some holes. But we need to know what you are starting with first. It sounds like T slot restricters are already in the main body so that’s good. We need to know what size they are as well. Once we know that it’s simply a matter of...

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Unfortunately, because my idle vacuum (8") is about half of the cruise vacuum (15"), and the t-slot (which is an air bleed above the throttle blade but a fuel source below the blade) it's near impossible to get it perfect! Step on the gas, revs come up, vacuum gets higher (sucks harder on the...

    318 Idle issues

I have seen this several times and Agree with Rusty's assessment, that she is sucking air. Number one clue is that you can cover the Primaries, with no change. For this post, I'm gonna assume the shake is NOT a wrong/faulty balance. The following is what I would do; 1) The first thing I would...

Carb tuning, larger accelerator pump nozzle?

...any bigger than .029 and .026-.027 would probably be better. So I’d go back to the 71 IAB, lower the Idle Feed Restricter to the bottom of the well and tune from there. If it’s like most QF’s I’ve seen, you’ll also need to install T slot restricters. That should give you a good starting point.

Im looking at different rims and while Rallyes and Slot mags and Mag 500s all look badass, I keep circling back to Bassett rims, the black with the red ring. Theyre cheap and look good

    360 Over heating

Actually, as you have found out, it's a terrible set up. My thought is to return it to stock. My insight is to respect the OEM design. My thought is; I would set it up with a big 7-blade direct drive fan in a matching shroud, and jam that rad up tight against the core-support. Then, when you...

    512 stroker timing ?

It's pretty hard to hear detonation in a HotRod; everything else is louder. Because of that, I bought a G-tech-ProSS , which is a windshield mounted accelerometer synchronized to time. With this tricky little unit, you can do speed tests at various PowerTiming settings. When the car slows down...

Carb tuning, larger accelerator pump nozzle?

...pump cams I did. Started Pink (stock), then white now blue. No clue what it has so I'll need to pull it apart, if the body is tapped for the T Slot restrictors. As per blocking, is that per side or total? This is my first time really getting into a carburetor, coming to understand ho all...

    Tuning issue on a 440

...the weights. - remove the carb & check the gasket against the base for leakage. I doubt you have an air leak. While removed, check how much T slot is showing below the pri blades; should be 0.040" or less. More than this will require bypass air & enlarging the IFR. - how much throttle opening...

    Initial timing

Thanks for link, I had actually saved that the other night when I fired up the Googling machine but hadn't read it yet. So reading that link, I can see reasons for both ported or manifold vac. My AFB only has manifold vacuum. I wonder if that is part of the problem. Eddy 1405 gets dirty from...

    Hard starts after running

That is fantastic information, and I appreciate the time you took to explain it clearly. so after adjusting my transfer slots, my 318 is happy @ 14 initial @ 750rpm in park. So, I would want to set up my distributor with a spring that is light enough to quickly advance from idle (14*) to the...

    Hard starts after running

So I do have a 727, tci shift kit, 2200ish stall (needs replaced). 3.73 gears. Had 36 degrees timing trimmed to all in at @ 2400rpm before carb idle procedure. After setting carb idle I'm sitting @ 31 degrees. So I will fix that when I'm happy with idle. Took it for a spin after setting...

    Thermoquad........Ok AJ, WHAT NOW?

To be clear And to no one in particular RExcept to OP I didn't say that I ran my hotrod at 5* of Idle-Timing. Brand new

Here it is, basically together. All I need to do tomorrow is do the emulsion, drill out some air bleeds, drill the IFR’s and PVCR’s and install the T slot restricters. If I get off my arse it will be all done by 1000 hours tomorrow.

    Hard starts after running

For an Auto-trans car; The first time the engine cares about it's Power-Timing is at stall. Below stall, it doesn't much matter what the timing is, so long as it idles nicely, takes throttle nicely, and doesn't bang into gear too harshly. The tune I outlined, will accomplish that. to get the...

    Offenhauser 5489 Intake Install

Getting around to installing the correct after-market 4 bbl intake on my 1965 Dart 273. Bought this Offy 5489 on ebay several years ago at a good price (~$120) and before shipping rates became outrageous. Good because I've seen them sell here for $250 +$80 shipping and Summit lists new ones...
