In my opinion, your easiest way to do everything is to install the speaker bracket underneath the dash where the original speaker went. I put 3.5" speakers in but some 4" speakers will work also. I also put in the 4x6 kick panel speakers. That coupled with the 6x9s in the back sounds awesome...

Actually, it's the locking mechanism connected to the shifter. It's just held on by a cotter pin. Do any of you know where I can order this part or just buy it outright?

I think you're right Jerry. I probably didn't have them tightened enough. the extra reinforcement shouldn't hurt though. That backet is awesome and the sound is a huge gain! I love it. Now it's time for the kick panel speakers to get installed O:)

cool...going to check the wire for the sender later...that seems like it might be a good culprit to troubleshoot

Oil level is good and the pan shouldn't be sucking dry at 80 mph. Checked the oil pan this morning and I have no dents. I'll replace the sending unit in the next couple of days and update. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
