Was your 360 in an early A body like the OP is planning? Just wondering because a lot of times the earlier cars have clearance problems due to the shape of the K frame.

Check your point gap, condenser & timing. Typical tune up items. A switch to an electronic ignition would probably be a good step. I would normally think the hesitation would be related to the carb, but with the hard starting issues I would give the ignition system a good going over first...

I was going by the water pump. It didn't look right for an LA engine but I've looked at some other pics on line & I guess it looks more like an LA pump than a Magnum pump so I was wrong. Still looks kinda' weird to me though...

The one pictured in the ad is a Magnum, but the description says LA. Just be sure what you're buying is an LA based engine. I THINK I read that the Magnum block can be drilled to oil through the deck, but if it can be done I'm sure a complete tear down & trip to a machine shop would be necessary.

Somebody must have installed your distributor/oil pump drive shaft off by a few teeth. Either that or you might need to move each of the wires over one position on your distributor cap.

When you let off the gas air can get into the system at the header leak & cause the unburned rich mixture in the exhaust to ignite. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Headers would really help this engine too. Unfortunately, to get a decent set for this body style you'll spend well over $800 by the time you get them in there & then you still need to figure out an exhaust system.
