Either the box or the coil. If you need a box, get a "Standard Ignition" brand LX-101. It's a better box that the M.P. Orange box and costs less.

    Balancer Picture for 440+6

Gets right down to it, you really have no idea what is in that motor. Just because the block may be for a certain year, it doesn't mean it has the matching crank and rods. And yes, as someone already mentioned 70 was the first year for the heavy rods. They were used in both six pack and 4V...

    Rocker shims?

Are these shims you got tapered? If not (and even if they are) I feel there is a better way to do what I think you're needing to do. Adjustable PUSHRODS. They will go shorter than stock. So if you're using stock rockers and the block and/or heads have been shaved necessitating the shims to...

Who just bought one of these?

Like I said...not that much motor. If I use that kit, I'll be using the 99787 pistons with a set of unported 60779 heads and a Voodoo 60403 cam. It should be healthy enough to keep me happy, but not radical enough to be problematic.

Good to know, but I won't be building that much motor.

New Small Block Stroker Engine Noise

So is this something that someone should only expect when running a cam with this much lift and Eddy heads? Maybe a .513" would clear ok?

Who just bought one of these?

I know someone recently posted they bought one of these 408 stroker kits, and I was wondering what you thought about it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270317482933&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=

New Small Block Stroker Engine Noise

Not having ever run a roller I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. But did I read you said you BLOCKED the oil to the lifters, and these are hydraulic roller lifters? They don't need to be fed oil?

    What oil has zinc now?

I'm beginning the switch to Amsoil Premium Protection and their filters. That oil has over 1300ppm ZDDP and is supposed to be good for 15,000 miles. The filter is guaranteed for 25,000 miles. And if someone were to actually go 15K on a change it's cheaper to run their oil and filter than any...

    Engine Builder (DALLAS)

Yeah, it's a shame. I was in the club for almost 20 years. Been Prez, Vice Prez, Activities Director. Never screwed anyone on a deal ever. And this was the second time a club member screwed me on something. But what kills me is that lil sonofabitch acts like I should be his friend. I'd toss my...

Yeah...Mike is a great guy alright.:finga: He forked me on a deal, and to this day has done nothing to make it right. And whenever he sees me he acts like all is well and I should be his best friend. I wouldn't let the guy near anything I own.:mumum::angry5::angryfir: Good thing I build my...

well that answers that. Guess those pushrods were the wrong ones. Really sucks you have bent valves.

    440 ordeal continued

I'll ask again. Was the block decked or the heads shaved? Do you have a solid lifter you can use to measure for pushrod length?
  22. 6

    440 ordeal continued

Your lifters will only pump up as far as they are supposed to go and no farther. Have you backed the rockers off and measured your preload with the lifters pumped up? Did you have the block decked or the heads shaved? Any chance you have a solid lifter so you can check your pushrod length?

    383 engine identification ?

If it has a 1966 casting date, chances are better than not it is NOT a 68 motor. It will (probably) be either a 66 or a 67. It will probably have 516 heads (if they are original to the motor) and will NOT have a freeze plug in the end of the head. Assuming they are 516's and they have not been...

    69 340 problems

OK. I've just read the whole thread and I can see some people have responded without doing that. Suggestions have been made which weren't necessary because of the fact the car HAD BEEN RUNNING FINE at one point, then quit. George, you now have fuel and are getting a shot from the accelerator...

What to do? Help me pick...

You could do the 408 and a lot of other stuff for the price of the 5.7, and it would sound more cool. HOWEVER, if money were no object and I was gonna drive one a lot, I'd slap in a 5.7 with the matching trans, and take advantage of the higher mileage, A/C, less problems with fuel, etc. I've...

    replacing rod bolts

What will happen is a bolt will stretch. This will allow a nut to loosen. When that happens it will back off and, if you're really lucky, the cap will get pealed open and (basically) flat on the down stroke. That will (probably) break off the other bolt and wedge the rod between the block and...
