agreed .....you should have a thermostat. if the flow is not restricted at all by a thermostat then the coolant may not being staying in the radiator long enough to even cool it down properly.

sounds like a late sixties 340 intake. 68-70 i think had the holes i believe..

you will want to change the springs on both as it will have a higher lift and need the extra capacity in the springs.

the 2000 range is going to fit the 262 cam best but without the gearing it won't perform like you want. the 262 will give it a little rumble as well. you should take it in steps. gearing will get you a big kick in the pants for the money spent. do that first. 3.23 is fine for street and still...

for what you have now as far as gearing i recommend this 256 cam. it is very easy to live with and will be a bit peppy.......... you could go with the 262 cam as it is a little hotter but it might be alittle sluggish from off the line without the gearing needed. remember never overcam a 318....

with the .30 over bore, performer intake, and holley 700 i recommend this cam. it will be smooth ideling and still be better than the stock setup. here you go....

yes. even though they have smaller valves in the intake side thier velocity is higher thus makeing up for the smaller valves. they will fall off in the upper ranges 6000 +. if you plan on running this rpm range then add the 2.02 intake valves back....with porting and polishing these can be even...

run what you have now. the nastalgia cam is not going to be near as good as the ex268. even with that cam you are going to be soft on the bottom end. it would help by getting it decked to zero. try to get your comp ratio to 9.50 to 1. 318's don't need alot of cam.

mike i had wondered how that combo worked for you....i hadn't heard or had missed it. glad to see this combo works as well as it does. if you get a chance post a sound clip of it in the exhaust section so i can hear it idle. i would like to see what the cam sounds like in it.
