in too deep: trying to go BBP on a 68 barracuda and its going.. poorly.

I don't list 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern axles which require re-drilling the drums on my web-site, but they are in stock. I don't carry 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern conversion front rotors.

in too deep: trying to go BBP on a 68 barracuda and its going.. poorly.

    I also make 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern A-body 8.75" axles that re-use original (re-drilled) 5 x 4" bolt pattern brake drums ($298 pair assembled).

Dana 60 SVL vrs Dana Spicer gear set

I carry almost every supplier of Dana 60 gears including Richmond, SVL, Motive, Hoosier and OEM Spicer. Because the strength difference is negligible, any brand will work for a race car or pickup. I recommend OEM Spicer (USA/Mexico) for a quiet passenger car application. See below: Dana 60...

DoctorDiff 30 and 35 Spline Axles Back In Stock

All '65-'89, 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern Mopar rear drum brake assemblies will interchange. Even though C-clip rears use 4 mounting studs, the backing plates still include the traditional 5 hole bolt pattern. I intend to reproduce 10 x 2 1/2" backing plates when I can find the right manufacturer.

Axel seal help for my 62 Dodge Lancer

I don't recommend pressing a tapered roller wheel bearing off by the outer race. Most of the time, this will explode the bearing. I cut the outer race off with a torch, then clamp a bearing splitter to the exposed lip of the inner race.

8-3/4 brake gap/ standoff odd measurement

The center thrust block slides side to side. If you install both axles, the problem will become obvious.

8-3/4 brake gap/ standoff odd measurement

You must insert BOTH axles to test the clearance between the housing end and snap ring. If the axles are made to the stock length, they will not seat unless an 1/8" shim is installed.

8-3/4 brake gap/ standoff odd measurement

If you are working on a rear disc brake kit that was not designed correctly, you must install a 1/8" spacer between the wheel bearing and housing end, remove the differential thrust block or alter the axle dimensions.

8-3/4 brake gap/ standoff odd measurement

Axle flange stand-out is measured from the housing end, not the bearing retainer. In other words, you did not include the thickness of the brake backing plate which the bearing retainer bolts on top of and is missing in your photo. Also, my Email address is [email protected] If you...

Ideal slip yoke travel is 3/4"-1" at ride height. In other words, push the slip yoke into the transmission until it bottoms out, measure from the center of the front U-joint to the center of the rear U-joint and subtract 3/4".

What would cause my barely used green bearing to do this?

I never claimed a ball wheel bearing is as strong as a tapered roller wheel bearing. Most people will never know the difference when used in a daily driver as millions of Ford, Toyota and Mopar rears came with them stock. As far as what is "wrong" with tapered roller bearings, I can almost...

Help with removing stuck pinion yoke

You can use a press to crack the yoke loose. The pinion does not need to be completely pressed through the bearing.

    8 3/4 axle end play question ??

The distance from the bearing journal to the end of the splines should measure 25.5". That clutch sure-grip is also notorious for having shorter than stock thrust buttons AND wider than stock cross shafts.

1969 Dodge Dart issue with installing axles after thrust block removal.

If you are running stock axles, a stock housing, stock brakes and (MO-400/ST-400) snap-ring style Green bearings, you can leave the thrust button intact.

1969 Dodge Dart issue with installing axles after thrust block removal.

All else being equal, Green bearings equalize the inner spline engagement side to side. OEM adjustable wheel bearings cause the axle spline engagement to vary unless you blueprint the axle lengths. Measure the axle flange stand-out on both sides of any stock 8 3/4″ rearend. Because of...

What would cause my barely used green bearing to do this?

That happens when Green wheel bearings preload the differential thrust button. The custom axles are too long for the housing, or the OP is using a poorly designed rear disc brake kit. In both cases, tapered roller wheel bearings will not work either. The easiest solution is to install a new...

Found this 8.75 in my buddy's yard

If the perches measure 44" on center and the housing ends are as close as they appear in your photos, you are in luck. I think you have a '62-'63 B-body housing (53.25"), which is the next best thing to an A-body version (52.625").
