Stock 318's with Four Barrels from the factory?

On USA built vehicles, you will not see a 4bbl on an LA 318 till 1978. Plentiful on the M body squads though.

    340 Vs 360

1971 340 (underrated) at 275hp and 340 foot pounds or torque. 10:1 compression and yes a larger cylinder bore at 4.04 vs. the 360 at 4.00. 1971 360 made 255hp and 360 foot pounds of torque at a mere 2400 rpm. This is with less than 9:1 compression (like 8.7) and using a 2bbl. carb. What...

    340 Vs 360

The 318 is a very capable engine. You gotta gear it lower and twist it higher to get her there though...

    340 Vs 360

If built similar, the 360 will flat out kick the 340 in the nads. This is assuming similar cam specs, compression..etc. The longer stroke provides more low end torque on the street which is what you want. The 340 has the respect and mojo factor but who cares about that bs? The 340 is...

    Intake manifold poll

It would be a toss up between the Action + or the Performer for an engine with those specs. Either would be fine.

    318/360 Crank/347 running on Dyno

So, it's the 285np with sixty thousandths removed off the top? Where can you get them?? Do you just turn the 360 crank down to 318 main size??

    318/360 Crank/347 running on Dyno

Ok, thanks. The machining cost maybe expensive but it does seem like a nice street engine.

    318/360 Crank/347 running on Dyno

Late '91 to mid '02 5.2 and 5.9 (or whenever they dropped the 5.2/5.9 Magnum V8's. Dodge Dakota's, Ram's and full size vans. You can usually find them for $100 or less here. Very hard to find a set not cracked between the valves in the combustion chamber.

    318/360 Crank/347 running on Dyno

What pistons were used and about how much did it cost to have the crank cut? This sounds like something I'd like to try. I have a few 318's.

Best Bang for the Buck Head???

IMO, port your X heads or go with some 88-91 308 casting heads.

Factory double rollertiming set in LA engine??

Dad recently bought a '70 Challenger that is just a plain jane 318 car. It had a tub in the back seat with a double roller timing set stamped with the "CDPD" logo. What would these have came on? I'm guessing some 340's. I've never messed with 340's a whole lot, mostly 318/360's.

    A 360 passing for a 318

A 318 stroked to 390 cubes is a good idea. It is a 318! It says so on the block :D

    Thread for the "misfits"

360s are killer engines. If you are in the build process and already have a 318, it makes more sense it build it. It is also more cost effective over having to buy a 360. They can build good power...I just wished that 318 pistons were in the same price range as 360 pistons... I just put a...

    318 factory cams

Yes...did it in a buddies truck. It ran really good and came from a low mileage 340.

    318 factory cams

Which 318? The Mexican 318's had the intake/heads/cam from the 340 and were rated 270hp. The regular 318 in the Usa didn't have a 340 cam or anything close. It was something like 373/399 lift. Tiny and crappy...almost anything is better.

Edelbrock Street Ram on a 408?!?

My buddy has a duster with a 408. I know he started out with an rpm air gap and 800 edelbrock. Went to a edelbrock tunnel ram and two 600s and the car ran even better. The 408 has so much bottom end that I don't believe a tunnel ram hurts it. The scary part is how it pulls in the top end register!

    best 340 intake?

LD340...so good that if you have one, going to an RPM Air Gap isn't worth the extra money. Another good intake is the Performer RPM. The '71 and '72 340 stock intakes are actually pretty good. Don't overlook carb spacers either!

    Comp, Lunati, Mopar?

Lots of people scream old technology when it comes to Mopar cams, but in the RIGHT setup, they flat out work. Don't put a .509 into a 7.5 compression 360 with 2.76 gears and expect it to run well. Lots of cams work if the combo is right.. Had good luck with MP, Lunati, Crane and a couple of...

whats better, a stock 340 or 340 torker intake?

Go with the stock intake hands down. The Torker isn't all that great.. I also heard a guy at the last Mopar show telling me about the Holley Street Dominator. He said it was a terrible intake. Switching it from a stock 340 intake slowed the car down 3 tenths...but he did praise the "Strip...

Why are 318's low HP and torque?

I was thinking it was between 135 and 150hp.

    390 stroker ?

I was thinking that the only disadvantage was that the 390 combo used a more expensive piston?
  25. D

    360 or 340 ??????

    360. The longer stroke simply makes more torque...that makes for a more friendly street driver. Really easy to make serious power with. I do love a 340 but dollar for dollar, 360 is the bang for the buck motor to build. Cheaper pistons to!! Since you are doing a rebuild anyways, what some...

    318 Build For Now

I use that intake on my 318 and it works pretty well. It is modified quite a bit though and does use shaved 360 heads. I also use a 4 hole Moroso carb spacer and a 3.55 gear outback. You may like a Edelbrock Performer better for your mild combo though.

My buddies old 318 combo from about 2000. I think it ran real good for what it was... All steel 1974 Duster street car. No weight reduction at all.period. Down to the bench seat.. Stock re-ring/hone and re bearing '74 318. Factory pistons.. *Wolverine Blue Racer 429/444 camshaft...can't...
