edelbrock 1406, running way rich, how do i tune them?

You got some good info from some of the guys. Larger cams can greatly affect idle vacuum. If vacuum is too low, the metering rod pistons will not come into play to restrict the jet orifice by the metering rod and so it runs rich. The hesitation you feel is when the throttle is hit, it gets an...

mopar won't stay running with carter 625 .

It sounds like a vacuum leak to me as the prime suspect. Here are some other things to check since you said it was good on fast idle until you kicked the choke off. This indicates a lean condition on the run and several things can affect it. 1. Remove the covers from the metering rod vacuum...

    850 double pump issues HELP!!

I hope I don't muddy the waters or offend anyone but that is too much carb for a mild 360 automatic car. I have had a lot of experience with this stuff. Cuda 20 was on target. It isn't rocket science. Your engine is getting a big gulp of air before the fuel mixture is efficient enough to...

    HELP!!! too rich at idle

I have 750 Proform carbs and I like them. Ramcharger is right about what he said, based on my years of experience. The number of the power valve is the point at which it opens. For instance, a 6.5 power valve will remain CLOSED until vacuum drops to 6.5 inches of water. When the valve opens...

    summit carburetor

Rumblefish360 has it right. Holley originally started this by taking over the Motorcraft tooling. The vacuum secondary version of the Motorcraft four barrel came on Shelby GT 350s, 289s both D and K code and even 390s. They were an excellent carburetor and were some of the very first to have...

    318 running beyond rich

That Holley 1850-3 is a universal fit 600 cfm and should be great on your 318. If it is old and has never been rebuilt, now is the time. When they sit or after they have been heat cycled many, many times, the power valves fail by being stiff and brittle. They don't seat anymore and fuel weeps...

    Holley Tuning Question

19dart66 is right on. I have one of each of those carbs and neither is really useable. They are conversation pieces. Back when we raced the D/MP record holder Granny Goose Camaro, we won one of these just about every weekend. We gave them away to people who had done us favors. The only car...

    fuel pump / carb problems??

Trust me, beatnik is right on with this. AFB, AVS, Edelbrock & Weber flood with anything over 5 psi of fuel pressure. Holley and Carter both sell high perf mechanical pumps that will turn those carbs into an over flowing toilet.

    Double pumper with automatic

The fact that a carb is a double pumper is really never the problem...it is the SIZE of it that does. If the carb is too big for a combination, the performance of the car will not be optimal. I've seen a lot of times where you spend more time farting with the spring in the vacuum diaphram to...

    Carter carb differences??

The 1612 is a correct "replacement" carburetor and it should work just fine.

    Help carb issues

it sounds like the pump discharge needle is stuck and no fuel is sent out of the squirters. You didn't indicate that it flooded so that is a good thing. You arre going to have to pull the metering rods and the top off the carb to see what is going on in there.
