    Upper end noise

changed the oil and put Vr1 20-50 in it. pressure is great now even after an 8 mile hot lap. pulled the covers and noticed that when my 17yr old dumbass built it 6 yrs ago that i had the rockers all wrong. the rattle noise i heard was coming from no.8 cyl and the rockers were touching alittle...

stock rocker arms. entire top end is stock minus springs and valve covers. covers are aluminum M/Ts. engine has stock "dished" pistons. hasnt been decked or bored. heads have not been milled. just ported a little. stock pushrods.

what do you mean by "kissing the valves"? yeah, i`ll tear into tomorrow and see if i can spot anything. nothing a major overhaul cant fix lol. im not too worried. like i said im going to try and put my oil pressure gauge input in a lower spot on the block and see what that does. right now...

and yes, it has plenty of oil in it.

    Upper end noise

cruising down the freeway tonight i noticed a noise when accellerating from 2500rpm to around 2800rpm. sounded like a rattle coming from the pass side bank toward the back. my car is gutted so i can hear alot coming from the engine bay while driving. the noise gets a little louder at around...

    which is better?

i got a 77 360 engine out of a van i built in highschool for my duster. its stock comp, stock bottom end with a cam and some head porting. i also have a 99 5.9 magnum engine complete. my plans are to build a 408 stroker in the near future. my question is, which engine would be...
  10. THE STEVE

what year of 360 is best

not trying to hijack the thread, just adding food to thought. but what if one was wanting to build a sstroker motor? lets say a 408, would the magnum still be the top choice?

    Best Small block Headers?

i have a cheapo set of flowtechs on mine. they suck. they hang down too far, they leak no matter what. they rusted pretty much the day after i installed them. i wish i could go back to when i built the motor and saved my money and bought nice ones at the time i was only concerned with cost...

    Worth the trouble?

i already got a running 440 and a 727 dirt cheap. its out of a 73 winnebago but i want to build it before i drop it in.
  13. THE STEVE

    Worth the trouble?

thats what ive been thinking for a long time. just cruise it around town until i save to swap the whole drivetrain for the 440. and build the 440 right the first time. cutting corners when i was in highschool is really coming back to haunt me. im still keeping all options open. if it...

ok, thanks. ill look more into it. this definately helps.

    Worth the trouble?

thanks. im not looking for "things that sound cool" im looking for all options. i asked before but what about an offenhauser dual plane intake? its not an airgap but will that work? i also thought about milling the head as well. itll be a week or two til i get home next. between...

    Worth the trouble?

if i get new pistons and raise the comp up to lets say 10.5, what intake/ stall / carb should i use then? would what i have be good? or should i still change intakes? remember, im looking for as much balls out performance i can get. i realize that without spending a ton of money and building...

    Worth the trouble?

yeah, i realized along time ago that everything i had wasnt lining up. but, its what i had. i have a buddy that might sell me his offy dual plane intake cheap. would that fit the bill? i once thought about a cheap turbo kit. but i dont really want to do that anymore. ido have a 5.9...

    Worth the trouble?

3 years ago, before the intake, carb, and stall swap and before setting the timing. it made 205hp at 238 ft torque on the dyno. kinda sad isnt it? but after what few parts i changed made a day and night difference. the hp and tq is still probably low.
  19. THE STEVE

    Worth the trouble?

the heads are the stock van heads. not sure on the casting number. but they have been ported and had some bowl work done. i gasket matched them to the intake and exhaust and smoothed them pretty good. not sure what they flow. the compression ratio is whatever a van motor was stock. probably...

    Worth the trouble?

its simply just not fast enough for me. its probably a mid 14 sec car in the 1/4. im not looking for streetability. im looking for the most power possible with what i have.

    Worth the trouble?

this car isnt a cruiser. just on weekends i drive around town but it wont see the hwy much and i plan to race it at the local 1/8th mile track

    Worth the trouble?

hey gang, i got a 77 van 360 engine in my 72 duster. stock bottom end, stock pistons (dished). heads have been ported quite a bit with stock valves. cam is an erson 4.88lift 292duration i think (been a few years since i built it) intake is a victor single plane with a holley 650dp. and...

    pistons, heads, both?

i figured i would clean the bowl and gasket match the heads while i was in there. i couldve swore that the spec was 292. but i could be wrong, it was 4 or so years ago. i do have headers, they are flowtechs. later on ill get something better but they work for now. i think right now ill...

ok, im still considering all my options. ill lok more into a cam swap also. thanks
  26. THE STEVE

    pistons, heads, both?

thanks for all the info. im familiar with engine building. its just the mopar specific details that i want to make sure about. ill probably use the magnums. i can do all the machine work at work. i ve built a few engines but im still new to performance. the stall im running is a 2200 b&m...

    pistons, heads, both?

if i mill the heads will it affect how the intake bolts on?
  29. THE STEVE

    pistons, heads, both?

id like to keep the cam i got. my goal now its to get more air in/out and have a higher compression ratio. im just aiming for 10-10.5, id like to still drive it on premium
  30. THE STEVE

    pistons, heads, both?

come to think of it.. i do have a set of magnums laying around. i dont know the specs on them. they are out of a 99 dodge 2500. would it be worth it to put them on? would it bring the compression ratio up? should i just wait and spend the money on aluminum heads?
