Should I drive my car to the track?

Another thing to think about: why do you want to go to the track? If its just to get some times why not get a vector or if you have a smart phone you can down load an app. These devices will give you everything that is on a drag strip time slip. Just find a long stretch of level hiway that is...

11 to 1 on pump gas

The issue with that article is its not overlap that effects cranking pressure it's how long the intake valve stays open past bottom dead center. Exhaust/Intake overlap occurs when the piston is transitioning from moving up the cylinder to going down. Cranking pressure and the dynamic...

11 to 1 on pump gas

Well my exhaust is relatively quite; X pipe and Super Turbos. When I have tried 87 it is quite easy to hear it rattling when i load it. In any case I am fast approaching 50k miles on my build and after the first few K miles of getting the engine dialed in with 93 the rest has been on 89

11 to 1 on pump gas

They are a closed chamber design, that is, the chamber in the head is not as big as the cylinder bore so a portion of the deck surface of the head protrudes over the bore. When combined with a flat top piston that comes up flush to the deck surface of the block it is the thickness of the head...

11 to 1 on pump gas

My 360 has 10.6:1 static compression and cranks 195-205 psi and runs fine on 89 octane. I have tried 87 but I need to be careful. even on 100+ degree days it runs fine on 89. The key to this high compression on iron heads is a tight quench. The magnum heads I am using ate closed chamber and...

    360 .... Looking for 9.5 - 9.8 Compression ratio

You need to know how far the pistons are down in the cyclinder at TDC and the volume of the heads you are using before you can calculate what you need in the way of chamber cc's to get to your compression goal. For example: Assuming the block is at a nominal 9.600" then the KB107 pistons will...

I just followed KB instructions that came with the pistons. That was 45k miles ago and lots of 6000+ rpm shifts.

HP and TQ estimates on 340 build?

BFG Radial T/A all season street tires. A 750 DP may ad a few HP but it won't make a huge differnce. I have had 600, 670, 725 and 750 cfm carbs on my engine and there is very little difference by the butt dyno and none between the 670, 725 and 750 carbs, I settled on the 670 because it has a...

HP and TQ estimates on 340 build?

The best 1/4 is 13.7 @ 102 mph. My propblem is traction my 60' times stink, the 13.7 run was had a 2.2 sec 60'. Getting the chassis sorted out for sub 2 second 60' times will get me very close to 12 seconds. Those times were also with a smallish 600 cfm carb.

HP and TQ estimates on 340 build?

I am going to buck the above estimates. I have a 360 that has the same compression better flowing magnum heads and what is about one size smaller cam that is a modern fast ramp. My engine makes 370 hp based on quarter mile trap speeds. The 340 is giving up 20 cubes so I would guess 350 hp and...

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

I wouldn't call a $7K difference "almost exactly the same price". The Shelby starts at $50K and the SRT8 starts at $43K.

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

You shouldn't be comparing the Shelby to a stock factory offering. You should compare the Shelby to one of the Challengers from Petty, Mr. Norm or Saleen. That would be more of an apples to apples comparison and those cars will run/out run the Shelby. I do have to say that Shelby is one hot...

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

Yea but with 1000+ HP 6.1 dyno runs already in the books it's just a matter of getting it into a car and to the track and there will be.

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

Mod motor Mustangs have been running in the 8's for many years, the Cobra Jet at New England Dragway is nothing unique from that standpoint. From the pictures I have seen of them it looks like you get the car with 10.5" slicks, again 8.97 on that tire is not special outlaw 10.5 cars are in the...

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

I don't think anyone thinks that. I just read a little piece in Car Craft this morning about a Charger running 9.47 @ 153 with a super charged 6.1 and this car still had a full interior and was street legal. The Challenger Drag Pak car is going to be over 1000 lbs lighter, with the same engine...

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

But that car that ran 8's is no where near how Ford delivers it. The top engine option in the 10 Cobra Jet is a 475 HP 5.4l aluminum block engine and that won't get you into the 8's, maybe high 10's. The base engine for the car is a 425 HP iron block supercharged 5.4 with some naturally...

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

I am not saying it's not impressive it's just that the stock eliminator classes this car and the Challenger Drag Pak cars will run in will wind up being very close in performance.

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

The Challenger Drag Pak cars will be right there with the Cobra Jet cars. The Challenger Drag Pak cars weight 1000 lbs less than a street going version.

    2010 mustang goes 8.97@153..

I don't know! When you start using power adders (the Cobra Jet is super charged) it's not hard. Just saw an article, I think it was Mopar Action where they put a supercharger on a 6.1L hemi and got 1003 HP, I would think that would be good enough for 8's in a Challenger.

    HELP!!! Manifolds???Huggers???orHeaders

FWIW, The diameter of the tubes in headers will determine the rpm that peak torque occurs. Larger tubes higher rpm smaller tubes lower rpm. The length of the tube will rock the torque curve around the peak. Longer tubes will enhance torque below the peak, shorter above. Longer collectors...

to advance or not to advance cam???

Most all Comp Cams when installed per the cam card will be 4 degrees advanced. Also conventional wisdom is if you need to advance the cam 8 degrees or more for acceptable performance then you have the wrong cam.

    3" pipes or 2 1/2' with cutouts?

Unless you are in access of 500 HP a closed 2.5" system will be fine for the street or race day. If you feel the need for cutouts there are electrically operated ones so they can be opened and closed with a flick of a switch.

A Body LARGE bolt pattern rear brakes

What ever axles you go with if you are going to be doing a lot of hard launches with sticky tires paint a white stripe the length of the axle. You can then periodically pull the axle and see how much they are twisting as the white stripe becomes a barber pole stripe. You can then make the...

A Body LARGE bolt pattern rear brakes

Bill, 72 down A-bodies came with 1 3/4" wide brake shoes, the later A-bodies, B bodies and C bodies came with 2.5" wide brake shoes. The axles you are looking at have an offset to work with the 2.5" wide brakes whether they are 9", 10" or 11" in diameter. Whatever drum you select you will need...

    Blowoff valve operation questions...

Also, in the case of a turbo the pressure plus will stop the turbo from spinning and when you get back on the gas there will be lag waiting for the turbo to spool back up, with the blow off valve the turbo will continue to spin.

    OD transmission opinions

I am pretty sure that the OD section on an A500 and A518 have the same external dimensions. In either case you will still need to cut the floor open the crossmember to make it fit. A friend of mine has an A518 in his 67 Barracuda. Though not a trivial task it was not hard to make the...

what pressure plate and clutch is best?

I had a ZOOM OE replacement clutch set behind my 370ish HP Barracuda until one of the supports that holds one of the fingers fractured. This clutch wouldn't allow full stroke of the clutch pedal without the fingers touching the disk! Ouch!!! But with a block of wood under the carpet it worked...

Seems like everybody doesn,t like Canadian flag??

The folks I know in Canada also buy private health insurance because the national insurance is not very good. The folks I know from Australia do the same thing. From what I have read that holds true in most countries that have a government funded health plan. In the US the national health...

Seems like everybody doesn,t like Canadian flag??

I like the Canadian Flag too! Its better than the old union jack themed one prior to the current flag being adopted. I saw the book in Ottawa at the parliament building with all the flag design submittals, some of the ones with Beavers on them were pretty corny. Have no experience with a...
