    components for a street/strip tranny

My 727 is slipping more and more, and I have another I'm going to build to put in the barracuda. It runs mid 8s in the 1/8 with the slipping tranny, 400, purple shaft .509 cam, torker intake, 3.91 gears, 26" tall tires. I'm thinking this thing should run high 7s, with a solid tranny. I...

    vibration update....yoke condition

i didn't see any cap cracks or dings in the driveshaft. the balance weight is still on it. it's welded on QUITE securely. the shaft builder DEFINITELY did a good job on the shaft. it's even clearcoated It's a Mancini 1350 piece, which is made by some company in Iowa, i think.

    vibration update....yoke condition

OK... got the housing off....the bushing is definitely worn, but i can't see any other obvious things wrong. i put the housing over the yoke, without the output shaft being there, and there is 1/4" side-to-side play at the yoke ears. NOW.... judging by this, is my previous assumption...

    vibration update....yoke condition

got the driveshaft out....here's the yoke. Why did this happen??? The yoke is 1.680", and it is 1.674 at the worst part. I still have to take the tailshaft housing off, because I got a new bushing, but I still need to find the cause.

    tailshaft bushing....Chris help???

I ordered a bushing from O'reilly, but it is the wrong one. they apparently think a 904 yoke is the same as a 727 yoke. funny, though, because the rear seal for either tranny is actually a 727 seal.....but the bushing is too small... so...does someone have a good NAPA or other number so i...

vibration update...good news found in a bad way

 it's the tranny slip yoke.... the rear axle yoke is fine. that was one of the checks i made when i was troubleshooting it.

vibration update...good news found in a bad way

Well...I think i finally found where the vibration is. The horrible one at 55+, that isn't always there. Strangely, it was only after i put on the S/S springs. and sometimes, i could drive over 55 for a random amount of time, and then it would start with its horrible vibration all of a...

    8.75 Sure Grip Help

actually, you can. the only parts not interchangeable are the gears. I put the old clutch style sure-grip in my 489 case that originally had a cone-type. you just have to use the bearings that go with the differential unit if you swap it out. if you have 2 cone-style differentials, the...

    Driveline Vibration

hmmm...i checke dmy pinion angle too, and had the tires balanced...and the driveshaft is a new one from whoever supplies Mancini. Mine is a slow vibration, at 45-55, and then it is like a super high frequency from there on up, but mine doesn't do it all the time. if you make a sound like a...

    transmission numbers?

cool...it may not even be from the tranny, but i think it is...i'll check it when i get a chance.
  15. G

    transmission numbers?

i found these numbers written down on a piece of paper in the garage. i think they are the numbers off the side of the tranny, but i don't remember. if they are, what do they mean? 2822 963 58151 3606

    Backlash and Pinion depth question?

i see that point, but i already had required tools. so i suppose that if someone were starting without them, then yes, it would be worth more.

    Axle seals

the "green" bearings are a sealed design, much like the ford 9", and they use seals. the seals are to keep oil from the bearing register area. even if you put a little grease on the bearing to seal the oil in the housing, you still could get leakage around the outside of the bearings. also...

    8 3/4 swap

some people just elongate the holes in the 7 1/4 plates....i didn't like the way the nuts tightened down, and didn't feel like shelling out the cash required for new ones, so i made my own:

    3000 stall, firm shifts gone

FYI, everyone..... when you install a shift kit, and it firms up the shifts, and then you replace the stock converter with a higher stall converter, you need to tighten up on the throttle-tranny linkage. found the answer to my own problem when i installed the new carb.....i also installed...

    Sure grip and 8-3/4 questions

the guy that said they are different is right, but they STILL interchange....again, just gotta use the bearings for the case that the diff is SUPPOSED to be in.....like 741/742 bearings for a clutch type, and 489 bearings for a cone type.....the outside diameter is the same for all 3....it's the...

    Backlash and Pinion depth question?

after doing it myself this year, i'd say the 375 i spent for new gears installed in 99 was QUITE excessive, if you figure 125 for the gears and 100 for the kit, that leaves 150 for the setup........i think a setup is worth 50 bucks

    3000 stall, firm shifts gone

right...that's what my theory was on it....it's what made sense to me....so it actually may be better, since the drivetrain will receive less shock

    3000 stall, firm shifts gone

I had installed the TF-2 kit in my 727 before i got the 3000 stall TC and it shifted NICELY. firm, quick shifts....only problem was that it shifted into 2nd WAY too early..... so while i had the engine out to paint it and install TTIs and the TC, I put in the split shift fix and used the...

    How Do They Work?

yes....all TCs have SOME stall and the mechanic is right....holding the car on a rev will heat up the fluid.... that's why it's better to put the car in neutral or park at idle, unless it's not feasible....in N or P, you turn some of the energy into rotation inside the tranny...the input...
  27. G

    How Do They Work?

the answer to "how" lies in the blade angles inside the converter. as you may/should know, a TC is just a turbine/impeller assembly. by changing the angles on the blades on the turbine or impeller, you can change the forces on the fluid inside, changing the slippage characteristics. that...
