    if i remember right the 318 for most of its life was NOT a "HP" engine from chrysler. thats why they had the "HP" 273, and 340. but the later years i not sure. if i remember right.

    the 65 300 L cam was not real big. but got 20 more horse than the new yourker 413. but same MPG. and very streetable. start easy , did not eat spark plugs. the champion j10y plugs was a tad lean. but raiseing float level to 5/16 fixed the trouble.

    my dad had a new 67 chrysler 300 with the 350 horse power.. it was turquoise i think. and had the holly carb. that gave nothing but trouble. my stock 413 65 300 L would walk all over his.

    pulling engine with carb plate?

    i have pulled early hemis with plate. 331, 354, 392. the 392 weighs 800 lbs easy. no trouble. if the plate is good and tight.

    in 1964 my dad bought a new dodge 880, wagon roof rack, 9 pas, full power. 383 engine. was good car. but had funky trans mount. we cobbled up just to get by. traded it for a new dodge charger.

    have driving and repairing chrysler products since 1965. there is NO better manual than a chrysler factory manual. AND much better than ANY other american brand manufacturer. but at rare times you might find a mistake, but nothing serous. and double check torque specs.
