1958 Dodge

-
I have a 58 Plymouth wagon project waiting on me that is similar to this cars story. I've had mopars since the eighties but this is my first forward look car.
Some of my friends that are more familiar with them than I am told me to watch the floor and rockers. Notorious for being rotten there.
Once I drug it home I found out they are right. lol. the rest of the car is pretty good but it definitely needs floors and rockers. But on the upside, these cars aren't unibodys and the frame on mine is good.
I'd be careful with the glass too. Mine is all good but needed a windshield. I was lucky enough to find an original solex windshield for mine for a good price.
I think its reproduced but they're over 900 bucks. The gasket is pricy as well.
Just one new guys observations.
I have a friend though, who owns about ten 57-58 dodge parts cars.

how about a wagon? lol.

Wow, 2 firefilte Desoto Hemis! $1,500 is a nice price for a complete one, exhaust manifolds and all.

First 2 pics are 20+ years old.
First is the 71 Dart with 35k on it I bought, drove for a year, and sold to buy the 62 Dart.
Most original car I'll ever own, and I drove it in the rain, so there.
Second pic, the 62 is in the background with the sheet and parts on the hood. I walked by it for all these years.
Last pic, Sept of 2018 I was there looking around, took the sheet off it, and had to have it. I went back a week later, and for some reason, he sold it to me, even took a pic with me standing next to it - completely out of character.
Notice there are far less cars there.
I went back a few weeks later and wanted to buy the 64 next to it, but it needs everything.

The man has/had an incredible collection.
I did a repower/power steering in a 59 dodge. Lots of room for a big block/727. Rear was 8.75 but a tapered hub type.

the bodies on these cars were light gauge sheet metal, and prone to flexing. Windshield and back window seals were known to constantly leak due to this flexing.
When the 59 came to me, it had a rubber floor mat, and below that was 1/2” of water.

Do you know the asking price on that car?
30k, he won't dicker.
He has pics from when he was driving it.
It's been there a very long time, but in amazing shape.
My #1 pic, second to this, which is same price. I took these pics roughly 12 years apart.

I would love to have a '57 Plymouth or '58 Dodge but sure can't afford another project to go with my current four. <sigh>

To my knowledge, Chryslers first dual spark plug head hemi was the gen III. I helped Lee Smith with the Crazee Cuda for a year or two after he got out of pro stock.
His engine in the Cuda was the first dual plug motor that I had seen. In the back of my head I thought that the idea orginated with him. He made his own dual headed dist.

So, I called over the weekend to see how he is doing and ask about a '58.

He is almost certain he doesn't have the registration, but he will look.
Said he would provide a bill of sale.

Can you register a car without a transferable registration?
Or does the 'current' owner have to file for a lost registration first?

VIN: does a '58 have the vin anywhere other than driver's door jamb?
Driver door would not open when there last, need vin to get insurance in order to register.

He brought up my concern over the frame, and said on the next day over 45 degrees, he would pull it up on the concrete so I can get a better look, as long as I help him move the car in front of it somewhere else.

Also, a new windshield came with the car, in a crate, and it has been outside since.
Crate rotted away over decades, not sure of the condition of the windshield.

Multiple obstacles and unknowns, and it's getting colder here. A warm day and a friend or two to help would be a good start.

Dual antennas are cool!

He's had this a very long time.
Video next.

Bottom of radiator support has some rust holes, rear of trunk has rust holes, trunk floor and front floor pans are sheet metal but not welded.
I knew all that already.
Driver door opened right up from inside and now opens fine from outside.
VIN attached, bill of sale from po.
Seats are horrible, but no signs of rodents. I bought a few cars from him, and no rodents, strange.
I have a new opinion on this car after today.
