1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

-
Hello All,
Well being a dummy with a fare amount of procrastination has delayed the build. I've tolled away at it this weekend and was able to get most of the Dakota digital hardware install and tested. Both my glove box mounted units are alive as well as my gauge pod. and they are talking to each other. had to order new door jam light switches and decided to add a few usb ports to the center console. I am on the hunt for either a new'ish under dash light w/ lens or at least a good lens to go with the unit I have. Getting down to only a few loose ends left ( ha auto-elc-wire joke) ugh... :BangHead: Still have to build my main+ power line from the battery to the started / Alt+ line / Main+ to dash. I also have to hack the crap out of the stock replacement under hood harness but that should be pretty simple and just cut out the dead weight.

I'll post more as I stat to button up and clean up everything...

I feel your pain. Did pretty much the same deal on a 62 D100. Dakota Digital dash, air, cruise, all the brain boxes to go with all that. Yep. Fun. It is worth it in the end, though. You will like it.

-Well Summer is over and the kid and wife are officially back in school tomorrow. It's been a bit hot and I'm in the middle of my silly season at work so haven't spent too much time in the garage lately so looking forward to making some progress. Ordered a Griffin Radiator "performance fit", hoping to have it and shroud some time this week and I also ordered a Derale 17" 2spd fan. I also got a battery mount plate and Optima Red top for the trunk, just need to install that and run cable. Looks like I'm gonna have to install 4 more relays before everything is done. 2 for the fan setup which I plan on mount forward and near the fans, and 1 for the brake lights and 1 for the backup lights these two I'll mount near the fuse box and efi harness relays. I'll post up pictures as soon as I have some

I too went with the Dakota relays, plus some painless! The Dakota seems a bit complex when I first started trying to unravel it, seems like they had a honking box for everything, but I just went slow and I drew it out on some poster board. That really helped me. Poster board for the win! Plus then I have a schematic for trouble shooting up the road. I love it now, but I sure wanted to take a match to it a time or three!

Wiring aside , I love the colour choice . Keep up the good work !

So I did a thing...

Got side tracked and this followed me home..
It's a 1973 D100 Adventure 318 w/ 3-on-the tree. In perfect condition. Purrs like a kitten... and fun to drive.

That's a nice truck! I've been saying I need a 3 on the tree in my life for a while now! I better find me one!

Cley

Going to Hemi swap it?

No this one is just too minty Fresh. I'll of course put an exhaust on it.. But no I'm looking to keep this one stock..

1973 was the year of my first truck, but it was a D200 camper special with a 360/727. Nice truck!

I had a that same truck but my was a 74 D200 360/727 Loved it. its the reason I bought this 73 D100 I missed it soo.

Welp finally had a weekend to myself. Had to modify the shroud quite a bit and also had to do some forward thinking with the fan shroud and mounting. This motor is so big and the Griffin rad is also huge I had to think out side the box for making It easier to work on later if needed. Formed a few channels and welded them to the rad frame and also had to modify the rad mounting. Had to reform the mount to lose a 1/4" to make everything fit... Going to add some stick on foam in a few spots to seal the fan shroud once in place.
It's tight but it fits and the fan easily slides in and out from the top.

how do you change the belt?
I built it so you just have to unplug the the single fan plug and pull the fan/shroud straight out.
Easy and simple to use. Pain in the ***! To build if you don't have aluminum channel...

Aww the Grind is real... ugh Life has a way of getting in my way and sum times I'm just too tired to deal with the car....! But this weekend we did a garage clean out and reorganize. So had an excuse to roll the Barracuda out to clean under it and move it around. This gave me a chance to putter. Had the kid help me mount the battery "box/mount" and get the battery in. Than I was working on another project that allowed me the excess to finally bolt the torque converter to the flywheel...
-Side note the other project was a result of my boiling point with my 6-month old order from Holley Performance for there lower trans to Motor stiffening plate.
Holley Engine to transmission lower structure support vs. stock 4.7 support?

As for the wiring of the Barracuda I'm in the home stretch. Thanks to my wife I have an organized check list of things to finish on my wipe board and will be working on marking them off.. Funny how now that its on the wipe board and not bouncing around in my head it doesn't seem like much left to do.... Ha :realcrazy:

Okay, so as of this weekend I have made so great progress with the car. Sorry no pictures as it was mostly wiring related. I have finished the harness on the engine bay with exception of the cooling fans and that is only cause I haven't found a suitable location for the Relays.
Ended up going with a ANL fuse block between the the Alt to battery+, and between the battery+/alt to dash (constant+ to efi harness)
Building the alt cable and routing it so its hidden and rerouting the starter cable was fun. Was under the dash last night cleaning up the mess and I still have to install two more relays to run the reverse and brake lights. straining to see the light at the end of the tunnel...
