1968 Barracuda Notch - Plano, TX

-
I'm still chomping at the bit to get reports from the F&B Weiand setup you have.
If it runs as awesome as it looks, it's going to be great!
Other than forking over big money for a Weiand intake, the ModMan single plane is my best option if I want to explore a 6bbl intake other than the Edelbrock/Chrysler factory style aluminum 6bbl intake I have on my 440.
Really only interested in the effect of a different intake once I get a stroker motor built.

Sorry, just scraping gaskets and other little stuff that needs to be done to move forward. Nothing exciting.

Bump for updates!!
I have gone back and forth and back again, trying to decide whether or not to try the Weiand P3690982 6bbl tunnel ram intake, or the Indy ModMan 6bbl, or stick with my Edelbrock/Chrysler aluminum 6bbl intake I have...
Plans on building a stroker motor, likely 540 cu in aluminum block, but only looking for 6XX HP and torque.
It MUST fit under the 70 Roadrunner Air Grabber. So I thought I was stuck with my current Edelbrock 6bbl or the aluminum shoebox ModMan...
Well a guy swears the Weiand will fit under a 70 N96 Roadrunner hood, with mods to the underhood airbox, and I have a Weiand available, so I'm buying it.
It's YOUR FAULT moselyme! Taunting me with those pictures!

Modded Weiand intake was a hack job.
It took me about 2 minutes to decide I was sending it back, as bad as I wanted it.
I should have demanded pictures of the actual intake before I committed.
The seller is supposed to have an unmodified version, and I told him to take pictures of it first. If it looks good, I already including a shipping label for him to send me that one...
Hoping for the best, pix will follow.
@mosleyme ...you're killin' me! Loss of sleep, manic depression, lol.
I need DATA man! :poke::lol:
I've already committed myself to getting the Weiand. The only thing that can nix me keeping it and working with it for the best performance is if it doesn't actually fit under my hood.
INFO MAN! :poke::popcorn::popcorn::mob:

Well here's a couple of pix he sent. It arrives at my house day after tomorrow!

Worked extremely late tonight. Better this way so I don't have to wait for surgical rooms and recovery rooms to be emptied. Medical equipment maintenance.
Good news is the Weiand 6bbl intake is still making progress on its way here. I've been tracking every move on FedEx.

Ray Meyers ran a 1967 Barracuda with a 440 (stroked to 493 I believe) in the Hot Rod Drag Week competition in 2012 and won his class. He has run in several Drag Week competitions since but now runs a Gen III Hemi. In Drag Week 2012 he ran a tunnel ram for simplicity of tuning; but prior to the competition he ran the Weiand intake because it made more power! It is his favorite 440 intake. Picture of his car taken by Hot Rod in 2012:

Well moselyme and the rest of my Mopar family, this day has been a long time coming, but I am SO happy with the example of this intake that I got.
It really is one of the nicest ones I've seen, certainly out of those for sale.
The only modification is the intake runners have been radiused and blended into the plenum floor. Nice, smooth work, with a gradual curve replacing sharp 90° angles where the runners met the floor.
Next step is to confirm that it fits under the hood, and then go from there.
Check out the pix:

Shouldn't be a problem in your Roadrunner. When you test fit please share pictures!
Thanks.
Here are a couple of pix of my 70 Roadrunner N96 hood. The airbox is not mounted yet. I also got a great deal on an A12 6bbl fresh air cleaner base, rubber surround hood seal, and filter top, just in case I need it. I'm anticipating using the N96 setup, and I just bought the new Oval rubber seal and hardware pack for the airbox.

My understanding is that the A12 hood will work, don’t know about the N96. The intake is taller than the factory six pack, but the throttle bodies are shorter than the carbs. F&B makes adapters to go between the throttle bodies and the air cleaner base since the opening is a different shape. I modified a fiberglass base and did not use the spacers and I clear the six pack scoop by less than a 1/4”. Of course this is an A-body, so definitely different.

Thanks buddy.
Look, I debated the Weiand for so many reasons, so many ways, so many times.
I'm telling you, seeing your F&B setup on that intake was like hearing the Songs Of The Sirens!! That image haunted my mind. Often I wake up through the night, and often I take those few minutes to check car forums, mostly threads I've been active in. I have read, consumed, devoured, deconstructed, and examined EVERY speck of information about the Weiand that the internet can offer.
I'm happy to say that the guy in the Victory Library article about his unique mods that he did after trying the Chrysler Performance manual mods actually emailed back and forth with me! I've spoken with a couple of guys who use the Weiand, one who has used his for over 10 years! He was kind enough to fab a couple of return spring brackets for me and sent them to me for free, along with a printout of Holley 2bbl carb parts list, and the diagram of the carb and manifold mods specific to the Weiand (although I already had them). Speaking of the Chrysler Performance bulletins on aftermarket aluminum intakes, I located the ONE edition of that book that has ALL of the mod info on ALL of the intakes and I bought the ONE copy that I could find for sale. So yes, I had become consumed by the "legendary" Weiand P3690982 6bbl intake!
I am very encouraged by his reports in particular, because he has used his on a car that is street driven a lot.
I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD to a report from you, or the guy who I bought the gaskets from, on what kind of performance y'all get from your F&B setups!!
Anyway, now that I actually have the intake, and a truly nice example of it, I will do my own work with it, and it all begins with seeing how/if it fits under my hood. Measurements first, installing it next, and then ultimately doing whatever it takes to get it to work with the Air Grabber. That will change again once I get the TrickFlow 240s or 270s, as it's my understanding that those heads push the intake even higher.

@mosleyme
I received the 2 gaskets for the top of the Weiand 6bbl intake. Thanks.
I know this is "Brand X" but...on another 6bbl front, I just finished installing the completely modded and reworked Rochester Tripower carbs on the 421 in my wife's 65 GTO. They were restored a couple of years ago, but never modded to take into account all of the high performance parts and design we utilized when we had the 421 rebuilt. I took the opportunity and blocked off the heat x-over and installed insulator spacers under all 3 carbs.
Runs better than ever! Tomorrow (Mardi Gras around "these parts") the local drag strip is having a special day of bracket racing/heads up and grudge racing...
Going to see if we can match or beat 12.8 which was my Dad's winning time back in 1965. He beat another 65 GTO in his 65, and still has the 1st Place Trophy.
I know we have "more motor" than he did, and topping his 12.8 is something my wife wants to accomplish...

13.58 @ 103
Not great 2.1 second 60ft times
A lot of untapped performance I believe I need to explore in the Pertronix billet aluminum distributor with Ignitor III Module. I've never tried any of the springs, weights, or total advance limiting capabilities it has. I had a lot of fun.
Thanks.

Swapped my trans crossmember for a "new" one.

"Old" crossmember was an original from ToddRon Restorations

It was his first iteration of the design for small blocks with a specific bellhousing and the Ford version of the T-56 Magnum. The company that sold me the transmission had prior big block Mopar experience and insisted I use the GM version and matching Quicktime bellhousing. That would allow me to use the higher horsepower version of their clutch. When Todd sold it to me he wasn't sure if it would work or not, I told him I would deal with it. I modified it and fed back to him what changes I had to make so it would clear my combination of 440 with the GM version of the T-56 Magnum. He used my notes to help with his new design. His new design offers a bit more clearance and has longer slots for the transmission mount to accommodate a wider range of options.

I recently asked Todd for a newer version. Glad I did. The driveline angle looked a little off, and I was thinking I would have to shim the transmission up. His new version put the end of my output shaft 1/4" higher up in the car, so should make the angle better.

Todd's new work of art installed, much cleaner than my hack job. Looks like there are many improvements over his original design and some changes to accommodate different combinations also:

OK, dug out the "old" Mickey Thompson valve covers I bought last year.

Here is what is planned: Welding in two -12 AN fittings for the "remote" breather setup, one on each valve cover (rear); welding in an oil cap for the passenger side front (easiest location to access); and may have to open the PCV hole a little... after the welding they will be sent out to Leanna for powder coating: Phoenix Specialty Coatings ~ Exceptional Custom Powder Coating
