don't forget to chain it down! That 340 might have a bit more than that 318. That rubber Mount has a tendency to rip apart. I love the chain I wouldn't put one of those fancy store-bought hold Downs if it was given to me. I can't tell you how many people point in compliment and point out to their buddy "look it's a chain!"
I love doing old school crap like that and it just makes people think about back in the day...

did u change your K frame or somebody else?

i'd put spacers then, I wouldn't pay another 160 bucks
Im either gonna send it back and exchange it or sale it on Ebay. I haven't contacted Schumacher yet but im willing to bet he will let me swap them out. Iv talked to him on the phone a couple times and he seems like a very cool honest down to earth car guy.

I was told by the previous owner it was a k frame from a 68 Barracuda. And it came with a 318 and a 727 out of a police pursuit car. I still have the 318 block and got rid of the 727 a long time ago...

If it came out of a barracuda thats 50 extra free hp right there! Lol

Sorry I don’t know what I was saying when I said 340... I meant 440...
Oh! Now that's a different ballpark, but I have done it several times and several ways. First you will need a big block transmission, then you can either use Schumacher small block to big block motor mounts or solid body mount's that bolt between the water pump and block. You can use your same transmission mount. Then there's the exhaust, headers for big block A body will be easiest to find, you will need a bigger radiator, and if you use tall performance valve covers your heater blower motor will be in the way. This will be alot more complicated than switching to a 340, but it's not that bad.

Hey sorry everyone to strike this huge conversation. I don’t know what I was doing last night when I didn’t catch myself when I was saying “340” what I meant to say was 440. That will probably change a lot sorry.
no offense but I'm going to push the unwatch This Thread as I can't add anything to swapping a big block from a small block. But if there's any other questions you have please PM me or quote me and I will do my best to help in any way possible but this has just become out of my Realm...
Edit I also changed my first "like" on your first post to an agree.

Thanks this is a lot of help, and yes I do have a big block transmission for the motor.

Yes it does.
440's drop in just as easy. Need a big block tranny.
  • No issues with the big block tranny or linkage, hooks up just like your 318 tranny did.
  • Engine "bolts in easy" with the correct mounts.
  • The work is exhaust. Some factory manifolds fit A bodies well. There are some headers that aren't as painful, but you pay $$$$ for them.
  • Also, for the added weight, you should up the torsion bars.
  • With a big block, disc brakes up front to me is a must.

Thanks, this helps. I am looking in to getting headers as it would be more simple and it’s would add some horsepower too.
