340 engine mount bracket

-
I bought a new set of 340
Mounts from Schumacher a couple years ago.
Bolted right up no mods necessary
Nice parts about $ 160 for the pair if I remember correctly..

I probably did screw up when ordering the 318 brackets. Well, at least I can cut the tab off one and weld to what I have. I wonder if these modifications end up moving the insulator hole to a different position? Hopefully not, and probably not but a half inch off on a mount ends up putting the trans tail shaft off a lot more than that. I'm sure folks would have noticed that though, and mentioned it.

Won't move it at all; two of the three mounting bolts on each side remain exactly the same, and the mount position remains the same.

As an aside, if you have nothing to work with I can maybe see spending $$$$ buying new brackets, but if you already have 273/318 brackets, they can be modified to work every bit as well as factory 340/360 brackets for basically nothing, or for minimal cost even if you have to farm out welding the passenger side bracket. This hobby is expensive enough without spending money you don't have to.

Out of stock now though.
Oh ok bummer.
My situation was opposite,
My car came with a 340 but when I bought it someone had put a 318 in it and bent up the 340 mounts to fit the 318...lol
I probably still have them and most likely can be fixed.
I'll let you know if your interested.

Fred went through this a while ago. Might want to give this thread a look.
MOTOR MOUNTS AND BRACKETS
Nice! Looks like e-body (odd name) has them for 144.00

Thanks but I did find some 318 ones on ebay, though it looks like my 273 ones can be modified to fit.
One way or another I'll get the brackets sorted out.

I don't remember which way or what they did to that mounting boss but it came about the same time the bore increased so I have to think that is why mopar did it. P.M. @Fred Scigliano He would be happy to tell you how it worked for him. Super cool guy.

I never had really thought about WHY Chrysler Corp. changed the mounting bosses on 340s and 360s, but your idea makes sense.

Chuck check this thread out.
I posted pics of my NOS 340 mount in there. Good info in the thread
Engine bracket question
For sure and thanks! Once I get the 318 mounts, I'll really start comparing pics to what I have. Can't wait for this part to be behind me. No shortage of work to finish this winter and silly things like this are a bummer (wanted to say makes me want to think chevy on next build, lol)

Hey guys,
I got the 318 one's in today. I'm still confused..
Reference pic shows my new ones are 318.
But whats confusing is the bracket that has the curve in it, for the 273 versus the 318.
Anyways, take a look, see what you think needs to go where, and with what mods.
Orange dot ones are from my 273.
Thx!

May have figured it out, haven't tried on the motor yet though. This last pic showing P and D, meaning Passenger/driver side. No tab to weld onto the passenger side since the 318 one has it already, and just some washers to add to the D mount.
The curve difference between the mounts threw me off.
Do you guys agree with P and D?

Ok, update..I'm in the garage and it didn't work out like I thought. Nothing seems to work out right with the new mounts from what I see..
Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually.

Use the ones with the orange dots. I don't think the D/P brackets are correct for a A body. I'll take some pictures of some 318 brackets still on the engine for you later tonight. We'll get it figured out. :) In the last picture I think the brackets are reversed with the mounting holes going on the opposite side for a B body or something else. Notice the tabs....

I think you are correct. I'm going to upload a couple more pics shortly of them on the block a little differently.

Here are the mounts mocked up on the motor. The drivers side seems right, just need the washers. The passenger side...it seems like if I just drill the third hole, it would work but I haven't heard of anyone having to do that and I don't know if its right then. The insulator holes are in the right position like this though.
Also, I think they look level as well.

If the ones you got are the lower cleaner pair, they are not for an a body.

The 273 orange dot ones are not aligned with the proper side D & P. They are reversed in your picture. The biscuit holes are opposite the B/E brackets.

Not sure where that pic with the engine 318/340 labels came from? I've seen it around on the net, not sure if its accurate? Can anyone confirm?
Here is a pic of my nos one. Doesnt look the same as one in the pic.
I can take measurements if need be.

Okay, these are for a 318 A body. Don't bother with those new mounts. Their not right. BTDT. I guess you could use them to do that welding deal shown in a earlier post.
SOLD - B/E Body Motor Mount Brackets
The pics are confusing to me.
Pic #1 - 318 driver side bracket, add washer then done, right?
Pic #2 - Drivers side, different bracket?
Pic #3 - Passenger side, and this is where I need to weld a tab on so I have the top tab.
it does show snug to the block though.
Pic #4 - Passenger side, just a different angle.

so, pic 2, I see your using the lower boss, unlike pic 1. Different bracket, different engine?
And btw, thank you for taking time to upload the pics for sure!
