340 engine mount bracket

-
Not sure where that pic with the engine 318/340 labels came from? I've seen it around on the net, not sure if its accurate? Can anyone confirm?
Here is a pic of my nos one. Doesnt look the same as one in the pic.
I can take measurements if need be.

I'm guessing its not accurate since my new 318 brackets line up perfectly with what is shown as 318 brackets, but they not according to the folks on this thread.

Look at how large this bracket looks on the post I sent the link for:
Its nothing like my 273 brackets look like.

The pics are confusing to me.
Pic #1 - 318 driver side bracket, add washer then done, right?
Pic #2 - Drivers side, different bracket?
Pic #3 - Passenger side, and this is where I need to weld a tab on so I have the top tab.
it does show snug to the block though.
Pic #4 - Passenger side, just a different angle.

so, pic 2, I see your using the lower boss, unlike pic 1. Different bracket, different engine?
And btw, thank you for taking time to upload the pics for sure!
These are 318 brackets on a 318 engine. The first two pics are drivers side, same bracket different angles. The drivers side is the side you need to change, narrower on a 360. The pictures are the same brackets you have for the 273.

Okay, these are for a 318 A body. Don't bother with those new mounts. Their not right. BTDT. I guess you could use them to do that welding deal shown in a earlier post.
SOLD - B/E Body Motor Mount Brackets
Did you see this link ^^^^^ The brackets you bought are B body brackets and won't work. Maybe you have the sides switched up. The pics I posted are correct on a 318 for a 67-72 A body. Hope this helps.

Ah, thanks.
So I need a totally different drivers side bracket, and a modified passenger side bracket (add tab), right?

Got pic of 273 bracket?

This is both of the original orange spotted 273 brackets I had.
I do have to say, I'm not 100% sure they were ever right. The trans in this car sat a little crooked when I got it but I'm not sure why.

So pic 1 and 2 show the insulator holes on the wrong side of the bracket. Thats one bracket. Pic 3 shows the other bracket and the tab is in the wrong spot.
Both were from the 273 motor.

1 & 2 are the passenger side bracket and should be fine. Pic 3 is the drivers side and will need to be modified.

I took the bracket from pic 1 and 2 and moved it to the passenger side, but there is no hole for the front bottom position in the bracket.
I see I put it on the wrong side of the boss, but same net effect.

Not sure if it matters, but the 273 I have is date coded 1966. Maybe the mounts were different for those motors versus a 1967 273?

The top two pics are the incorrect orientation for the biscuit mount holes. The bottom one is CORRECT!

These are 340 A body brackets that fit a 67-72 biscuit mount PERIOD, no doubt... Drivers side on left...

Your 273 driver side needs a tab to pick up the upper mount boss on the block.

3 Pages of confusion because there is a crap load of poor information on the net.

I think I saw in so other threads where you would modify the 273 mounts for 340 for a price. Am I right and if so is that service still available?

Yes, I used to do that with 273/318 mounts. Not doing it right now though. Done probably 100 over the years.

I can say one thing about this thread........................ It is a very confusing thread.......................

LOL, and amen..I hear ya. I know it shouldn't be this bad, and once all figured out I'll look back and say damn, that was actually pretty easy.

Rob, what are these brackets from? I dont know, all I know is that the 340 mount I have doesnt look like the one in reference pic. The one in reference pic has quite the curve to it.

The ones in the top pic are B/E body and DO NOT work...

The one you have in that bottom pic is the correct part for an A body. If you want to look it up. Section 9-64-0 in 1969 parts manual, text page 9-12, or about page 325 in the PDF online.
