Sorry to hear your pep's died. Perhaps the should have stayed home That night.
Race at your own risk period.
It's always a risk no matter where you are, road Or track, closed Or Open circuit. Even with the safety safari on hand.
People die at the track as well so don't cry me a river.
Racing is best done at the track, no doubt.
If I read the story correct, the people killed in that crash were NOT involved in the street race, they just happened to be minding thier own business, driving in thier own lane and got run into by the street racer driving in the wrong lane

There is a great difference between putting your own life at risk and putting the lives of innocent bystanders at risk

@1970boy a word of advice son, you may indeed be a better driver then your peers, but be very careful taking that position
I've found that the Bible is right when it say "let him who thinkshould he stands take heed lest he falls"

Very correct I would say something about rumblefish360 but I'll let everyone else be his judge the young OP chose the wrong wording and I hope he gets the answer he's looking for

I did read it and understood it and still say, they should have stayed home. Innocent or not, they should have stayed home Instead of traveling.
But that's living life in fear. Drag racing is and has always been a "At your own risk" action.

You point out one side, I'll point out another side, people die at race track that don't race but watch.

So there's your other side. They were leagally watching an event and died. Minding there own biz, enjoying the day, perhaps some hot dogs and a soda while some ape driving a car had an issue and killed those poor
Innocent bastards.

Happy now?

What did I misunderstand?
I got it. Your friends died driving down the road while stupid people happened to be drag racing. Could have been a drugged driver, or drunk, or fleeing the police from a bank robbery, murder or even perhaps rushing to there wife's side at the hospital for the first baby!

Should we now outlaw expecting Dad's from driving because they MAY get to excited?

Once again, race at your own risk like everything else in life. The track is the best spot, no doubt!

Hey guys jus need some opinions on what i should do with my car. I want a build that will have decent mileage and lots of power i will be street racing this car at stoplights and also doing canyon cruises. But i also want gobs of power on tap. Any suggestions? Mileage above 15?

A workable combination that comes to mind: 408 stroker, EFI, 518 OD tranny

I sincerely thank you Jburch for giving me an ACTUAL ANSWER TO MY QUESTION rather than "hey dont build that and drive it around JUST LIKE EVERY SINGLE TEENAGER IN EXISTENCE WHO HAS EVER HAD A HOTROD" because youll kill someone with your inexperience in driving. Once again i thank you for giving me a engine build idea that was productive. TO ALL I MEAN NO DISRESPECT WHATSOEVER AS YOU ALL ARE MY ELDERS AN I NEED TO RESPECT THAT but please just give me some opinions on ENGINES AND BUILDS

How is your suspension? I would want that and my brakes to up to par first before going to bigger power. Im 33 and was a passenger in a car that was rolled when i was 16, we all walked away with no scratches but the car was totaled. I just got done upgrading my whole suspension, chassis and brakes on my 67 dart as a primer before i upgrade my drivetrain to more power. With whatever decision you make, think about the whole car and how it interacts together. Whats your budget on things?

The thing (strike 1) that has every body twisted and it's a very real concern, is your flat out statement about street racing......no matter how cool it looks on "Street Outlaws".........it is an illegal activity in every state of the union........I'm sure you know there in your home state of California, you get caught, they take your car and crush it, there is no debate.....also from a couple of years ago, 2 guys from Compton were facing murder charges cuz some people got killed during a street race, never heard what the out come was........no matter what, I would not engage in activity that would get me a not so nice room in Folsom, or turn my car into a block of scrap headed to China.

Strike 2 is, there is a staggering amount of documented history of teenagers and cars going wrong, not your fault, just the facts.

Build your car, have fun with it, that's why you own it......just don't be the doofus in the next lane making people wish your parents had practiced a better form of birth control.

You should put one of those sweet turbo whistlers on your tailpipe. Those help make huge power. At least that's what street racers think

Yah...That's what a pimpled face, street racing,16yr old needs. Get real. You or someone else is going to die kid. Get it ?
Take your **** to the track.

A word to the original poster: Maybe if you toned down your approach a bit, some of these guys would be more willing to help you. You're coming on a great car site asking for advice. To me, that means that you acknowledge that the guys here might know a little more than you about car building. You should also realize that they have more experience in DRIVING these high powered cars. Also, last time I checked, being a better driver than most 16 year olds is nothing to brag about.
You have a resource here where you have endless years of experienced drivers/builders to ask for advice. I would listen to the building AND the driving advice. I have found that most on this site are more than happy to help you and know WAAAAAY more than you. If you're smart, you'll listen to their advice. I learn stuff here all the time and I've been driving and building mopars since 1983.
And to answer your question, I'd say small block(stroker if you have the money) every time, seeing as how it's a daily driver. Also, in closing, if you feel you don't need to listen to the more experienced guys here, at least do Johnnydart and the rest of us a favor and let us know when you're out being an idiot so we can stay off the streets that day. Lol.
Good luck with your daily driver but please. RACE IT AT THE TRACK!!!!

That's sort of what I was suggesting I would still use the 360 Magnum as a base to work off rather than the old LA far superior motor and stay with the roller cam and yes some sort of OD transmission I'm just not a big fan of automatics although if you have the little 7 1/4 rear with an automatic you can use the 8 1/4 lots cheaper and easy to find remember compression and rear gears kills MPG so if you can keep the compression down with some sort of power adder may help your MPG goals
