5.0 Front Servo Spring

-
I think the TF-2 kit makes reference to using the rear servo spring in the front if u don’t have 2 in the front. But I think is only for 727s. I don’t like to use a 5.0 lever with a -2 kit. 3.8 or 4.2 is my choice. I have done lots of shift kits. If u end up not using the 727 rear spring I could use it. Kim

The 5 lever holds tighter, but it engages and releases slower.:D
It can also bend the band strut or take the strut end right off the band.

I had it happen before, and I was like "REALLY? you're going to make me pull and open the trans for that?"

I dont think I'll be using it as per the tf instructions I used the spring that came with their kit for the 904. So if you need it just pm me and I'll get it shipped out for ya.

Well hopefully that doesn't happen to me! My trans already had the 5.0 in it so just another one of those things you learn when you tear into it.

Now this damn spring issue... lol

Oh I have 1 more question since you're here :poke::D per the tf instructions it says to not drill hole "B" in the separator plate just to take out the ball. What happens if you do both and can you do both? My plate already had the hole drilled at that spot, or should I leave the all in just to be on the safe side?

Leave the ball out where u drilled the wall. Kim

I left it in. Reading the instructions it says only leave the ball out for the firmest shift possible on 1-2 but to not drill the hole. Since I already have a hole drilled I figured I'll have to just sacrifice a little bit of firm shifting from 1-2 which might actually be ok. I just don't want to break anything else or have to take anything else back apart.

Also the brain full buttoned up.

I see oldkimmer gotcha.
Now that it's all back together you can't lube it with fluid and move the valves to insure they are free in their bores.:D

It's probably fine.

So found some information. Front Servos were made larger in diameter starting in 1971 904 transmissions. I have a 68 727, I wonder if the front servo is the same size as the front servo in my 904.

I wonder if that's why it has a slightly larger 2nd spring in the front servo. Maybe it was just added when the trans was rebuilt and the VB was modified.

See if u can find the right spring for it. Kim

I've been looking all over the interwebs, I'll go to the transmission store on monday and see if they have something. This is the same thing I saw in the B&M **** kit instructions that A/J also posted. I just want to put this sucker together and throw it in the car :steering:

Use the spring out of the accumulater in the front servo. Tony said he blocked it so u have that spring to use. Here!!it fits perfect. Kim

the accumulator had no spring in it......I took a older 904 apart today and the front servo only had the small skinny spring in it....

Hold your shorts kid.....I got another 904 to take a look at....sometimes parts are at different locations.....

who said i was giving them to you...lol.....wait...i know where another 904 is....lol...forgot about that one.....

you are turning into the son i never wanted....lol....

Oops first pic is rear servo spring. Doesn’t fit. Here the are together. Smaller one is what u need. Accumulator spring

So I took my 727 apart today that came out of a 68 dart gts. Here is the accumulator spring from it. It is roughly the same height as the skinny middle spring from the front servo but it fits.i just dont know if having the wrong height would pose a problem.

I would try the servo springs but I'm willing to bet they are significantly larger than the 904 servo springs.
