Car is back on wheels, frame is all done, altered wheel base accomplished.
Motor and transmission is in, not mounted yet.
But from here everthing should go fast now.
Wheel base is 110.
front is moved 10”, rear 11”
independent front suspension, ladder bars in the back, adjustable qa1 coilover shocks all the way around.
sorry for the mess, have been crazy couple days.

Sergey,
How did you decide on how far to move the front and rear axles and drive train? Are you aiming for better weight distribution? Are you planning on using a wheelie bar? It looks like you know what you are doing.

i have Steve Magnante book about altered wheel base cars, i followed his advice and used his research base on photos of old cars the most, i just tried to move the front as far as i can, and independent suspension lets me move it further too.
Also i had two cars that a my favorite, they are later altered wheel base cars though. And I don’t really know what i am doing haha
since i have adjustable suspension i hop i can get away without wheelie bars, but i’ll might make them just off the frame. i don’t know yet. First passes will tell

had no idea what to do with a firewall, since i want to set back the engine and have a blower on it, so just got ballsy enough to cut it straight down. and starting on a dog house

hope you guys don’t hate me yet for how much i cut this car.

everybody happy new year and merry christmas!

wanted find a body shop to get the fenders done, but ended up welding up and patching up myself. can’t wait to get started on the wheel tubs
will grind later, don’t want the dust in the garage right now.

COOL build!!!!!!

I have always wanted to attempt such, but I am afraid I am too old and woreout now!!!!

I did find a cheap 64 other day that would be a good candidate!!!!! HUMmmmmmmmmmm???????????/

pulled out the rear glass and found a lot of rust in there! will have to patch like 6 holes!!
but i just patches the cowl and i think window rust will be much easier!

staring on tubs as well

how do people do tubs? just seal to the quarter panels? jb weld? what should i use?

obviously you have some filler work to do on the quarter panels anyway so i'd add some small stitch welds all round the tub to the panel, then thumb some panel adhesive all round to provide a waterproof seal.
neil.

engine is installed and leveled, and it’s a final set back. all shelves are welded in, still need to make mounts. it’s just sitting on shelves.
need to figure out how i’ll do an access door to a distributor. i have this dash cage bar kind of too low.

re the panhard mounts, i'd brace the axle brackets diagonally from maybe halfway up either out to the axle tube or in to the diff casing. or better still shorten them and lengthen the chassis brackets. so they're about the same length. there's a lot of leverage on those long brackets as they are. if the bar gets too close to the diff by lowering it it can be bent to clear. that only makes bar length changes more awkward but once set that shouldn't ever need altering.
neil.

Thank you!! i’ll redo them, i’ll try to do a research, so i’ll have a better idea, hard to picture my head.

2 things, 1st i hope that cardboard is fire retardant
and 2nd (more seriously) don't forget to seal above the tubs up into the 1/4 panel area. i've seen the result of a trunk fire that just spread through above the wheelhouses and through the rear door cards into the car. not pretty :(
neil.
