66 Dart Owners thread

Just as I remembered. There was no breakdown between hardtops and convertibles. Sorry. tmm

Here's another conformation.

According to a site with data from Galen Govier, 2,066 Dodge Dart 270 convertibles were produced in 1966, but the 270 was a separate trim line. According to another site with data from Krause's Chrysler Catalog, there were approximately 8,700 Dodge Dart GT Sixes and 10,000 Dodge Dart GT V8s built in 1966, but they don't break out the data for convertibles

Been thinking of dealing to a 360 from a 273. Anyone done this. All I can find is for 67 a d later a bodies

The procedure is about the same but the exhaust conversion is a bit more involved because of the exhaust port size difference between the 273 and the 360 heads. You either have to install some custom headers or use 273/318 heads and the stock manifolds unless you're willing to cut the inner fenders. If you have manual steering, you can also use the '68-70 340 manifolds with some minor mods. The engine mounts, torque converter, and oil pan are the only other significant differences between the 360 and the 273 when it comes to installation. There are some other minor things like the crank hole diameter for the converter button and the ignition timing marks but those are easily overcome.

I will try to get some more pictures up soon, I'm new to the site and the help already has been appreciated.

Nice drop top. Looks like RR1 paint code. That's a cool color and not too many around. tmm

Welcome to FABO Joe! That's a racy looking Dart you have there. It looks fast just setting there. lol Got any more pics? Let us know more about your car. toolmanmike

Finally getting ready to put the motor in. But here is a question. I need a radiator, any suggestions? 66 Dart with a 318 conversion..

Another 66 Dart with Canadian 'Valiant' branding.

This one has some great history. It belonged to my Grandfather's older brother, was his daily driver. When he passed, his son drove it into the driveshed, parked it and nailed the doors shut.

It's been sitting there for 36 years till I recovered it last fall from the family homestead.

Just pulled the engine out, will be restoring it this winter.

I plan on restoring the car to original with little to no mods.

here's my 66 dart convertible

like the title said "on tires" again after 2 years :D I still have to do the rest, motor brakes wiring top carpet ect. the list goes on. the Darts on tires again after 2 years of hanging out on a dolly cart or a rotisserie. It feels good to be able to push it around to where I need it.

yeah. I'm going to drop it down a couple of inches. I didn't think about it when I ordered the new leaf springs and told then I wanted super heavy duty 6 leafs in there and 2 inch raise. whew sure does put it up in the air don't it. might take a while to sag don't ya think!

but it does let 275/60 14's fit under the car in the rear.

I can just imagine what it'll look like after I get the engine and tranny in to get that nose down, Tail light will be pointing toward the sky! so lowering it is going to happen.
