71 Dart get 408/ Trick Flow Heads....

After a couple of delays we finally got it fired up and running....Ran for 10 minutes then clicked it off and let it cool...

Noticed that the starter was really dragging getting it started...Has two batteries in it plus alternator...

Fired it back up and ran for another 10 minutes...then began to cool it off....I pulled the valve covers to check everything...again starter dragged turning engine over to check valves...

Hooked battery charger up and got thing on the charger...I remember while it was running the voltmeter was only showing 12 volts....then my daughter said yes..that where it was went we were in Bakersfield too...

Pulled the trunk lid and hook battery charger directly to battery.....well they are dead....

We got the timing set before I burned up the timing light on the header........got the trans topped off with fluid before we shut it off....rear tires are turning which is a good sign....Need to test transbrake.....

Need to take alternator over to small shop and have it rebuild...one of those one wire powermasters...


It’s not funny but the way you put it made me LOL about the headers eating your timing light.

Killed a couple myself like that. But I’ve had more killed loaning my light to guys at the track. They bring it back with the cables and inductive pickup ate up from exhaust. You mention it to them and they say it looked like that when they got it!

I stopped loaning my timing light because of it.
 
Only the most trusted & most stand up people get through the front gate. They are only 3.
All others are pointed towards Harbor Freight and given directions.
 
Already got a replacement cable coming from Amazon....be here tomorrow....like to double check it....

change order tomorrow...and make sure I dont see anything in it.....and got a couple bolts missing out of the trans pan...finally got the right ones...
 
Yes..I like hughes cam....but have had a bad run of luck with them....This one is a couple of years old...
 
Change oil and filter this morning.....removed alternator to go get it rebuild....and
Passenger side lower ball joint looked funny....looked like castle nut had moved up the treads.....in the process of changing it out... ...Finish Tomorrow...lol
Wanted to see if any metal was in the oil or filter....looks clean....alot of moly lube came out the plugs...
 
Dropped off ....alternator to get rebuilt this afternoon....couple days .....
Ball joint worked completed yesterday.....

this weekend should have it all ready to go back in the trailer...

I think tomorrow with nothing to do ...I will check the valves one more time....lol

also waiting for the replacement cable for my timing light was suppose to be here on Sunday....thanks Amazon.....that prime shipping is great..
 
Finally got the alternator back on the car this morning.....fired up and everything looks good...going to put the car back in the trailer ......and get back to my 75 duster will the noise ...

We are not going to the SCSN this week in Vegas.....not a good race for a new combination to run....the race that never ends...

So it looks like the 1st weekend in Dec is going to be it.....hopefully the weather will be good....and have some good air for Vegas

That motor is going to be killer! The hughes cam that is in it can it be used in place of a 292/508 mopar cam? I see duration is quite a bit more for the hughes. My 360 has KB107'S which are flat top pistons. Compression is roughly 9:8:1 or 10:2:1. Just looking for future option on cam. 3.91's out back.

the Hughes cam has over .600 gross lift....you need to make sure your valve springs can handle it ...and you have valve to piston clearance ....so yes..it can replace it...but things need to be checked out.....

Normally hughes recommends their springs and other components to guarantee cam survival. Do you use their springs or just some that will handle the lift?
 
Hughes springs pn 1129 is the same spring as Pac 1903.....buying them from Pac saves money.....i can get them for just 100 dollars a set from Summit where as Hughes wants 10 dollars a spring plus shipping.....
 
So disappointed your not making SCSN.... always makes for a good story!

Today is not starting off good...went to back car out and no reverse......MF...........last time it was the rear band adjustment.....
 
ok.....shift linkage was off....some dumb ***.......daughter came by and her small hands were able to get up there and adjust it....

but I dropped the pan and checked the rear band adjustment.

In which makes no sense at all since everyone is social distancing at these events, (in there cars.... ) unless there family in the pits. Which is OK. Right?
 
Never seen a track with a larger pit then Vegas......plus we use the odd number of staging lanes....1 3...5 ...7......so the cars are even social distanced.....

Might be the track manager took the easy way out...
 
Well your governor mite be bad, but we have Emperor Andrew the Arrogant, he wants to take away everything including Thanksgiving and most likely Christmas and have the police go out knocking on doors and make arrest's if more than 10 people in a house for the holidays. He killed almost half of the racing season up here and from what I understand our local track was hit with some health fines for social distancing, all they aloud were the driver and up to two crew members. We didn't know if we were going to have our Mopar show( the biggest single make show they have each year) till August for September 13th show. God knows what these dictators have in store for 2021, can you say 5 to 8 dollar a gallon gas and jobs going back to china.

Ya but Rumblefish I feel sorry for you, you have to go through that foreign country down there just to get off the island, I only hit another country if go a little over a 100 miles north and they are nicer neighbors. Our County Sheriff is the one that ticked Andrew the Arrogant off when he said no way are his sheriffs knocking on doors.
