71 Duster 360 (new project)

Working on that slow *** Duster...putting the mp590 back in...see if we can get it back in the 10s.....or is something else slowing it down....

did a compression test..all is good there..checked valve lash....ok....checked the cam phasing...still where is was installed....maybe the engine did not like that cam....
 
590 cam back in....buttoned up and running...took me 4 tries to get the plug wires right...dam...pop bang...boom...lol

think I found something else wrong that caused car to slow down ...not cams fault...my fault...need to find a flat surface in morning to see if it is bend....
 
Though I had a bent rocker shaft....nope....Duster ran 11.08....getting better but still 2-3 tenth slow...somewhat cooler night.....1st round red light.. .010...

71 Dart ran a best of 10.65 .....and a .001 redlight ends the night in 1st round...

DA was down to a whopping 4300 ft
 
Now moving on to the fun stuff....

working on rebuilding the 46RE in my 99 Dodge 1500....lock up converter starting to shutter ....trying to get it done so we can got to Bakersfield Oct 15.....get some of that sea level air...
 
finally got that big *** heavy thing out...dam rear x member...ordered the last of the parts needed...lock up converter ...and new sprags...one in 727 part and one in overdrive along with a new bearing

proceeding with the dissemble and cleaning tomorrow....

drug out the tools...sure glad I bought this stuff years ago went I found them on ebay...saved a ton of money...
 
you do use a porta power to spread the frame rails...... don't you?
 
actually ...the x member is still in the truck....removed rear mount on trans...was going to raise the tail up to get x member off...but I forgot i had removed the last bolt in back on engine...trans came out with it lying on x member......then the fun began....lol

so i unbolted the OD section and i was able to get the trans out....now..gotta get that x member out too...remember having a tuff time with the old 94 2500 dodge we have

looks like the x member is swedged in.......

what's going on at Famoso mid Oct? I might be ready for a road trip.......

Got a 4x4 and bottle jack if needed...

Got the 46RE all apart ...cleaned the case inside and out..clutch pac dissembled and cleaned....R & R a few bushing....

Did not have any Vaseline or ATF to start assembly ...plus I had to play pool repair and satellite repair for daughters... ...took today off....watch the 49ers get killed...traded wrong QB a couple of years ago..

The transmission looks great inside even with 150k miles on it...a couple of the OD steels showed some heat distortion.....i guess if it was not for the LU clutch shutter....this thing would go another 100k....

Waiting for a couple of parts....sprags...and conveter....will start assembling the clutch pac tomorrow...

Sea level air? .. Lompoc ( hopefully a drag strip ,on the way..) ,is where I street raced,eons ago'.. The elevation is at, or below sea level.. At late night/early A.M. ,the cars just scream..
 
picked up the final part this morning from the dealer...intermediate shaft spacer.....12 bucks for a small spacer....LOL

all put back together...the input shaft turns...tight but turns...out put shaft turns...

converter is installed and held in place......

I kicked that cross members *** to with a BFH........

tomorrow is starts to go back in.....about a week behind my schedule...but then again I got a job....lol
 
How do you like your miller 211? What on the car did you use it for?
 
I used that welder for everything...roll bar...ladder bars...upper and lower coil spring mounts...tying the frame rails together...

Finally...Finally got that 46RE done....wow..got everything done last night...just needed some atf4 for it....got the fluid in it....hit starter...spins with does not start...wtf....

If i could have gotten a ride to the dodge dealer I would have a new truck right now....

figured out I took out the crank position sensor putting the trans back it....what a pain to get that in and out....old one had a pinched wired.....fired right up...put it in neutral...then run it thru the gears....check fluid..need 1/2 qt.....take it for a right....shifts like a dream...no shuttering lock up converter.....

well...gotta get two cars ready to got to bakersfield on friday....
 
Well...things moving along for a friday afternoon departure....trailers wheel bearings lubed...trailer lights checked....air pressure in tires checked...spare tire checked...

getting all the stuff together in one spot to load into pickup trucks....started tonight loading my truck...went after some e85....but forgot my wallet at home...no money..no plastic...no license...

weather looks not so good...thunder storm friday in vegas....probably along I 15 too....plus some rain late saturday night and early sunday morning in bakersfield.......

saturday temp low 80s....sunday temp low 70s....

Back to work on my problem child...71 Duster..got the engine and trans out of it..for the upteen time..

Hughes 6064 cam going back in it....trying to find the correct pushrods...they were in a box...and going thru 904 trans to check it out also....

been working on other things...73 Duster and its Fitech efi...
put brakes on a trailer.....
rewiring a 88 Dodge Ram D250...got rid of the TBI...rewiring engine ...



71 Dart and 71 Demon are put away for the winter...

73 Duster is getting the stock motor back in it....3.23 instead of 4.30...stock converter instead of TA 10 inch and manual valve body...going to be a street car.

and then this thing showed up one night...LOL

grille in front seat of car....brand new TA tires and wheels plus another set of cragars with tires....$2250

And a DOA 273...guy said he can not get it to turn over....boat anchor....
