**73 Scamp Mini Pro-Street Engine Swap**

The carpet is here.

Got the dash speakers mounted. They are sealed from the speaker plate to the dash air tight with 1 sided sticky foam. There is a gap there around the plate without it.

I also shortened the rear window cranks so they will clear the main hoop.

I have been bouncing around a bit so I don't get too frustrated regarding the Welding off of the cage.

Mad stuff right there....all looks GREAT!!! can't wait for more lessons.
Brad

Got more progress done on the POS.

Front of the cage is all welded off. I only have the tops of the Halo at the Headliner & the Trunk Bars at same spot on top left. Learned a couple new tricks today with the Tig so I should be good to go now. Still gotta get a New Bottle. I used up the very last bit of it this morning.

I am going to put some black speaker grill material over the dash speakers. I went to Joann's Crafts today….. If there are any single guys out there you need to be going to places like that…… Women all over the place! Anyway the lines were way too long so I will either head back there later tonight or tomorrow morning. IF and IF I had the speaker material………. The dash cluster and wiring would have got done today also.

Front kick panel speakers are in and Mocked up. Rear Speakers are in and Mocked up. Amp is in and Mocked up. Pre Amp EQ is in and mocked up.

I bought all the masking off material so I can get the cage painted when it comes time. I at least want to get the A Pillars and front of the Halo painted so the glass guy can come back out and put the windshield back in!

Front Tires are back on! Lol

Just picked up new Argon Bottle & more welding supply's. Also got the Speaker Grill Cloth…… Stuff cost me $2.94, freaking rip off. Lol , I am going to head back and find some material to cover over the rear speaker tray when I get to that point. I forgot to bring a sample for color matching.

Now I just gotta get my *** back out there later this afternoon and get some more done.

Battery in trunk?

How are you going to firewall the package tray?

Maybe a note to NHRA about the AGM style battery and firewall might be in order.

Not going to…. I have a true Dry Cell Battery made by Oddessy. It can be mounted in any position and does not vent any gasses. I was talking to Pete about it and he said the worst they will make me do is put it in a box. No fuel cell in trunk so I will hopefully be Ok.

Yes, but you know how the rules are, battery in trunk = firewall.

Might send a note and get a letter saying it's OK or be preemptive and place the battery in a sealed box.

Yes I hear you.
What's messed up is there are a bunch of Hatch back cars out there and they get away with Serial Murder! Lol

As far as a box goes I am researching it out now. What material does the box need to be? Some are saying Plastic is a no go?

Here one that will do the job.

The 3rd member assembler called me yesterday with bad news…… I had to purchase a New 9" Case. The one I bought off of my buddy was for the small bearing and max splines is 33 on it……….. He is giving my $$ Back. What is funny is when I dropped it off I told him those guys sell me all their fck'd up stuff!

So I bought a Big Bearing Nodular Aluminum Case that is Bolt through style this morning. It has provision for a 10 bolt pinion support if I ever go there.

Ask the tech dept at NHRA before you start. They may send you an e-mail with an update for AGM batteries. Keep that with you when you head to the track in case you get questioned if tehy say it's OK, no firewall with AGM battery.

I got away with all sorts of stuff with my wagon like the hatchback cars. Battery in the back, fuel cell fill point inside the car with a door/flap... the good ol days! LOL

No sense doing work if it's not required.

IIRC, the box has to be an "approved" unit. You can't just build one.

I just sent them a detailed email and also asked if they had an amendment to the rule book regarding AGM Batteries "Dry Cell". I will update my findings when they respond back.

Dam nice work.. I need to do my fuel system.. when I was scanning through this whole build I saw how you did your set up which looks like the way I should do mine since im adding nitrous. .. one fuel pump, two regulators, braided hose, little fuel cell etc.. im not sure if I want to run two lines into the carb or just one.

Thanks!

I will be changing and going to 2-8an lines off the regulator to the carb bowls. This way it will be easier for jet changes. I am a slow learner. The way it is, it is a PITA to get the carb bowls off in any quick fashion!

The cage is officially all welded off….. That was the hardest FLUCKING thing I have ever Dunnn diddd in my life! I aint bull shittinnnn!

So I let the cage cool down and I re clearance'd the pins on the swing out bars and the rear seat bar. When you weld this stuff off the TIG gets it so damn hot that the parts will move around a bit, "ting, tang, pop" making noises and stuff as you go along.

So my next move is to start on the painting of the cage. I will be going SLOW as Molasses on this part. I do not want to screw it up! I am not good at painting. I actually HATE painting! Lol

Don't blame you, here. Shot a hobby stock cage last year, what a p.I.t.a... Still have Ace hardware safety orange,on my shop boots....

Started at 7am , I added some gussets on the seat brace mounts and I forgot to weld off the Net Rod so that was up first this morning. Then I had to run and get a 5/16-24 Tap. For some reason I guess mine was twisted or worn out. Anytime you Tig Weld a threaded bung you have to chase the threads after it cools off. It is part of the deal. I also got rid of the Surface Rust on the floor boards. Primed and fog painted with same paint I am using for cage.

So after all of that I started prepping parts of the cage for primer and paint. This is what I got done so far…….

Tomorrow I will try to get the A Pillars above the dash and far enough back on the halo so the window can be re installed Tuesday or Wednesday next week. We shall see.

Nice.

So do you look like the Green Goblin? :)

No not yet, the cans work pretty good….. I am sure when I work my way into the car it will be a different story.…. Lol

That color really pops. I took one of the bars out in the sun. Holy bageebers batman. Bling Bling:D

Started again at 7am. I masked everything off which took about 3 hours. Then I primed with my last can of primer and painted the rear portion of the trunk bars. I have already use 3 1/2 cans of paint. So 4 more cans of paint and 3 more cans of primer should do it.

If I can't get at the rear bars very well I am going to have the glass guy pop out the rear window when he comes to install the front glass. It would suck to have a shitty paint job right in the rear window view! Homie don't play that! Lol

Well as I suspected there is no way to get a good paint job done on the rear cage bars so……….. I just purchased the rear window gasket and the glass guy is on call to pull the rear window hopefully later this afternoon.

In the mean time I have ordered the 4 cans of paint & 3 cans of primer that I need. I am headed out there in about 1 hour to pick it all up.

This is a helluvalot of work is all I can say! I need to get this thing finished and back on the ground!

Window guy got here at 11am to pull the rear window. I went to work on the car right at about 12:30 , Cage is all painted with 2 good coats. The rear window being out made it a whole lot better.

Tomorrow I will install the dash pad and the cluster and start to finish up the rest of the wiring including the stereo, then carpet, belts, seats etc.

Glass guy will be back out on Friday to re install the front and rear glass. I can for sure see the light at the end of the tunnel now! :burnout:

I stripped the car of all masking. Got the dash pad installed. Rear Speakers re installed. Rear Panels & Window Cranks. O2 Gauge is mounted and pre wired…….. Rear view mirror back on.

That blue tape screwed up my headliner more than it already was. At some point I will take it somewhere and have an Overlay put on the headliner…………….. The headliner is a Hard backed one. Maybe I will call Dante's & see If it comes in a couple pieces and I can replace it while the windows are out?
