74 power wagon dream truck...

Practice on the real parts, you can do it. No need to make your fingers bleed any extra on old parts.
Tip, after you think you have it perfect and in primer, rinse some water over it, it will help show any imperfections, waves etc.

You can wet sand and polish to a really great paint job long as you keep it clean. I did a Honda prelude 1997 Sh for my son even blacked out spoiler and hood stripe center. Took me a month fixed the hail dings sanded primered more body work more primer sealer base and clear. He got it with 70000 on it 2013 3800 dollars and after the Dad make over he drove 2 years sold for 6000. I had maybe 1000 supplies and free labor.

Hopefully these post and this is a garage made paint booth!

So I called Scat this morning to verify a couple things for my machine shop and maybe make a decision on which kit I want.. of course the machine shop wants to know if they're going to be file fitting the rings or press fitting the pin on the Piston pin, notching the bottom of the block and so forth which of course the charge gets passed on to me...
And the two kits had different ship dates... So Scat said it boils down to the connecting rods and they'll probably be next month. They said they do have the material they just need to be made.. in today's atmosphere I figured that's a big win having the material now we just got to get someone off of all the unemployment and get in there and make them LOL...
Really it's boiling down to the cast or the forged pistons either one would be dished as I want a pump gas rig.. in for a dime for a dollar I'll probably just end up getting the forged pistons... I know they're not needed at all but again I'm in there so I'll probably just do it...

i would do forged flat-tops and adjust the compression with the chamber size on the heads.
I ran flat tops for years with aluminum 58cc mag heads, but had to run premium fuel.
Stock heads normally cc out around 74cc so dropping compression is easy.

I have flat tops in the Duster and I'm using the same heads I had on the Duster and even that I had to use premium with a tickle of race gas...
I want to be able to use straight junk gas and not think twice...

I have enough heads, that I think I can adjust for several points of compression, with selective head gaskets.
I managed to get my last flat top engine down to 10.8 static and it ran on pump gas, that was with 58cc heads. Look real hard at the intake closing on the cam, that will make a difference in dynamic compression. (real world).

I just want to make it simple and try and keep things a little more simple... With the overwhelming amount of work I have to do on this truck namely every last nut bolt and so forth trying to figure out how to cheat my way into having flat top pistons is just completely off the table...
I'm just going to buy a generic felpro 360 gasket kit that'll have a 8553 gasket. Just having the stroker kid in there as opposed to the stock 360 is going to give me more than I'm going to need for a daily driver... I've already went down the cemetic gasket route with my duster trying to lower the compression and it still wasn't enough. And those were what over $100 each...

Camshaft lowered mine from 10.17 to 8.71 dynamic using off the shelf fel-pro gaskets.
No other changes, understand the intake closing of the cam.

And the camshaft change was very mild.
A comp 280HR to a comp 262HR.

The torque was great from the smaller 262 in a truck.

Pulled the trigger on the stroker kit..
And paid for horse rides for my wife and I for our anniversary at the end of the month..
I sure spent a lot on horsepower today..
LOL...
I got my garage cleaned up and my big bench cleaned off and my small bench cleaned off which I took the transmission back on to get started on that.. also have a short block 727 long shaft that the previous owner bought to replace the short shaft which he didn't know what he was doing. Of course he just broke the reverse band which was obvious by the chunk of the reverse band in the pan.
Already bought a new transmission pan for it. I called on a kit and it was about $120. And I know a trans go to shift kit is about 80 or $90... The hardest part is always cleaning LOL.. I'll probably stop by the local car paint supply place after work tomorrow and try and get some ideas on what to do...

Happy anniversary, a horse ride sounds like fun, I have not rode one for like 25 years or so.

Thank you! Yes I haven't rode one for over 40 years I think it was in 6th grade camp in Michigan. When magic Johnson's mom worked in the cafeteria at my school and he was still playing college and lived across the hall from me in the apartments..

Okay on with the sanding of the cab and doors... I just ordered a gallon of Summit epoxy primer and a gallon reducer.. says it's supposed to be mixed one to one..
To make the $100 for shipping I ordered a $10 gun holder as well which will come in handy.....

The gun holders are nice, I have one from Summit.
After I bought it, the same holder is $4 bucks less from Harbor Freight.
But free shipping is free shipping.

Comin right along. You can paint it yourself man. Not paintin it at this point is like undressin your woman for somebody else to plow her field.

What I'm trying to find now I've been searching all over the floor and around the entire house... Motivation to go out there and start sanding on that damn thing..

I took next week off to pound out as much as possible on the truck. My motivation is slipping too! But football is starting soon so I got to get **** together because that will be a busy few month in fall. Just got to keep at it bud!

I know the feeling. I can do body work but hate it. Always looking for a way to avoid it. Best thing is to just get at it and get it done. The longer you leave it the harder it is to get back at it. The last time I had to take a break from the Dart was midway through the body work stage...all block sanding, which is my least favorite. Took me forever to get motivated enough to get back at it. Biggest thing that keeps me going now is finally seeing the color go on.

This started out as a three to four year project and now 7 months into it I've got close to the first year and a half done. I really put forth some heavy steam in the cab floors and the other prep of the cab.
At this point I really thought the cab would be out of the garage and then someone else's shop for a few weeks to be able to get personal projects done, honeydews if you will... I kind of neglected help on the spring cleaning around the house so now it's mid to late summer cleaning LOL... Anyways getting some of that tied up today and a little bit tomorrow morning as well. I'll have the next couple days off after that probably get some kind of a start but that is discouraging at best because the next two weeks are pretty much spoken for after that... So I will get a little jump on it here in the next couple days but any serious progress is going to be a couple weeks from now..
Well I do have the transmission on my workbench ready to go I'm trying to save that for when the weather turns. I really am still going to keep a heavy head of steam when time comes available to get this cab and paint before winter starts...
I want it out of my shop so I can have room to tackle some of the smaller projects...
