Another problem for us on trans brake-HELP

-
Right on Tony,That's why we pulled it,I have got lots of help from dwire a member here because he originally built the trans and motor in 2007,He has been a great source of help and knowledge BUT after talking with him the guy I bought the car from stripped all the GOOD stuff off the car before it was shipped to me this spring from Canada ,It was a JW transbrake we replaced so along the way things were exchanged,NOT dwires fault at all,we don't know if the ultimate convertor is still in it or not, when we pulled the trany we know we have a 8in convertor but there is NO markings at all on it,SO were are doing what we did with the rest of the car starting over so we know what's in it,THe trany goes to the trans shop tomorrow for tear down and we will find out what's in it,THanks for your help Tony your experience is track tested to say the least,I have enough trouble with one car,I can't imagine keeping 3 cars going like you do for your kids !!!!! SO once I know what we got ,I'll post again-Thanks Guy's --Steve

Does the JW Transbrake require any INTERNAL Mods for it to work? I know it is a 2 wire Brake so I am guessing it does have Internal Mods for the JW Brake to work. Knowing if it does will help..

Joes TB is a 1 wire hook up and No INTERNAL Mods are needed for it to work. That right there could be your problem if in fact you are putting Joe's TB onto a trans that has INTERNAL Mods for someone else's TB...........

Thanks Mad but Joe originally built the transmission at his shop in Indy,And NO the JW valve body had one wire not two--Steve

IT IS A TRANZ ACT race prepped transmission,He has a record of it being built--Steve

That does NOT matter if it had the JW Transbrake in it. MOST TBVB require the Drum to have a hole drilled in it and the input shaft might have a milled notch in it also for the JW Brake to work correctly. Don't matter that the trans was built by Tranzact.

I think you are mis understanding the question............

IF the JW Brake was in the Tranzact Trans and the JW Brake needed the mods I am talking about for it to work then THAT is most likely why Joe's TBVB does not work correctly in that Trans. Joe's TBVB Does NOT require the drum or the input shaft to be modified to work. All is handled internally by the VB. IF this is the case you have a leak inside the trans when using Joe's TBVB

I got what your saying mad dart, but we wont know till the trans is pulled apart I agree with what you said the first time but Joe told me 7 yrs ago he did drill the 2 holes with his original design valve body at that time 7 years ago thats what he called his race prepped pro trany . I'm not arguing with you and I know fro. Other threads you are a proponent of doing the tranys ourselfs I just got done reading one of your threads on doing it yourself because its simply a bunch of sub assemblys bolted together. I would like to tackle that someday and understand more how this torque multiplier works but I don't want to do it at the expense of my sons right foot if I did something wrong and it exploded. Thanks for responding and for the help you provide to everyone here you truely are a artist with the work you do on your cars-steve

....all three of my UCC converters from Lenny are marked like this 9"

Good luck, probably see you at GLD for the Mopar event.... I got nothing to race other than maybe a mustang with a BBC so that doesn't fit lol

So here goes I'll try and be short and sweet,Met Jim Rush this morning on my trany issues,He is a Local mopar 727 specialist,Much to my amazement I thought I would drop off and go BUT Jim had differant thoughts,He told me he won't pull a trany down without the customer in front of him unless he has done your work before,HUH I thought oh well here goes a couple hours NOT,He grabbed a couple tools and a 3/8 impact and had the trany torn down in about 15 minutes TOTAL-I was amazed not knowing what to expect,Well it wasn't good AT ALL,I have a stock trany with ALL stock components except for a bolt in sprague of which the springs were bent in describable ways.THe bands were almost metal to metal the clutches the same,The pump was toast he showed me how to use a dial gauge to check it.SO where i thought we had a race prepped trany and launching the car at 4400 with a trans break i'm thankful my son still has a right foot,This is another place were the previous owner REMOVED the good stuff that was supposed to be in the trany that he told me was in there,Now on to the tranbrake problems-THe solonoid has a shaft that pushes a plunger that is located in a bore much like a piston in a caliper WELL the plunger was sideways in the bore and that's what caused erratic operation of the transbrake SO he's installing all parts from A&A-New alum drum,New bands,New clutches,New pump,New rollerized bolt in sprague,New trans brake valve body from A & A a seal kit and running it on a dyno. When all is said and done it will be around $2000 cash which I didn't want to spend but so be it that's racing I guess and guess what?????? He answers his phone every time I call him and he is 45 min. away so I had to learn a lesson I guess--Thanks For the help guy's and anyone in Wisconsin it's RUSH PERFORMANCE TRANSMISSIONS in kenosha--Steve

Steve... I cannot believe what was done to the car! I don't know how some people sleep at night. I sure hope all of your problems are behind you and son know. So you both can enjoy it. Did the trans still have the Aluminum trans pan on it and the transblanket that I installed?

i love using local guys when i can. it's amazing how much they are willing to show and teach you and not try to rip you off. it's good to have friends. he's actually interested in keeping you son safe too.

Ouch!! I hope you get your car back up an running again soon Steve. After reading story's like this I don't think I will ever put a T-brake in my car...just too much hassle. Man, to think that last year when my trans died right before the division finals I ALMOST bought a Tranzact transmission...glad I dodged that bullet.

So is this a tranzact trans that you installed or was it sold with car to you as one that has a tranzact VB?

I don't believe that Trans was ever from Transact. If it was it is a second or 3rd hand transaction and someone is getting crucified that should not be. If it was a first hand purchase then it would be a different deal but in this case it's not.

As far as the VB goes and a plunger being cocked..... That could be from sperratic pressure in the Trans that caused it. So again I would tend to think your TBVB problems stem from your internally warn out transmission, not the VB itself.

I bought the car from a local Mopar guy with no motor & trans who bought it from a guy from Canada , I had a Ray Barton build a engine for it, Joe from Tranzact build a trans and bought a new converter from Lenny @ Ultimate Converter Concepts. This was in 2009 I ran the car a few times , then my Dad got sick and I did not want it to sit. I traded it with a friend for Street car. He raced it a few times and sold it in June of 2010 back to one of the owners in Canada and then that guy sold it back to the original owner who I guess sold it to Steve

Thanks DWire for explaining please see my other post on the trany issues--NO it did NOT have the alum. Pan or the Ultimate convertor in it when we pulled it out,So this guy totally raped us on the car BUT that is behind us and were keeping our heads up and moving forward-DWIRE has been a VERY VALUABLE to us throughout this experience. HE IS A STAND UP AND HONEST PERSON and hope this crap we have been thru DOES NOT HAPPEN to another member here--Steve

Mad dart you still can't say Joe is EASY to get a hold of--HE ISN'T and I just ask that if your trying to buy a product and it takes 15 to 20 calls to order it before someone picks up the phone STAY AWAY STAY AWAY they don't deserve your money-THanks Steve

Lol, yes I agree 100% he is hard to get ahold of. I have first hand experience on doing so.

He needs to have an answering service. They can be set up for emailing or texting so you get your messages anywhere & immediately. In this day & age with technology there is no excuse for not getting back to people when running a business. This would increase sales as well.

No -one removed my other post they just combined it to this one--Thanks whoever did that--Steve

DWIRE--It had a JW valve body in it when we pulled apart to put in the Tranz act valve body-So if you put a JW in it yes that was in there--Steve

Swifter I feel so bad for what you went through with the car, I really hope nobody ever has to go through this. Thanks for the kind works !! as my Grandpa always said if your word is no good then you have nothing. I always try to be upfront and honest with every thing I do!
