The coupler in the picture is a hybrid between the Borgeson steering box splined shaft and the stock type Mopar coupler. This allows a man to keep their steering column intact. Other methods require cutting the steering shaft and fitting a U-Joint type coupler on it. I agree, the $200 is pretty steep, like BAC really passed on all the development costs to make it.

I'm running Bergman's kit and so far it's been pretty good.

Just like @GMachineDartGT said, the coupler makes it so that you don't have to hack up your steering column. If you want to, you can easily go back to stock. I think that has some value right there.

Not only is the steering a bit tighter and more predictable, but also I have NO MORE LEAKS! My old box leaked quite a bit. It was $950 (give or take) bucks well spent, I think.
 
To be honest, when I installed my Borg.box, it leaked like a sieve.
The welder had left a pinhole, deep in a corner. Borgeson offered to send a new one and I could send mine back, but living in Europe, the hassle and the time it would take, wasn't worth it for me and fixed the leak with a simple punch tool.

I've been enjoying the steering box every day for over 5 years already.

I had to shim the motor mount 1/4" to get some clearance with the dougs headers. Cut 3/4" off the steering shaft and installed the ujoint coupling. I would have like to had a little more room between the header and the box but at lease it is not hitting. I got everything from summit to make the change over. The old box was getting a little scary even after trying to adjust it. I can now drive this 68 cuda with one finger. Thanks to borgeson and summit. This car is pleasure to drive now.

What kind of engine do you have? I've got a '68 Cuda Formula S with a 340 and I'm looking to install one one of these boxes and the Borgeson Saginaw pump. Just wondering if you had any issues making everything fit. My car has a manual box currently but originally had power steering from the factory.

The only problem I had was one header pipe was hitting . I am running dougs headers 1 5/8. I tried to dent the header but was not able to. I put a 1/4" shim under the driver side motor mount it worked out fine. I love the gearbox like driving a new car.

Well I do have the BAC coupler, so hopefully no mutilation will be necessary. Can you elaborate on the hoses? I bought the Borgeson hoses, but it's going to be a while before I install everything. Didn't realize the BAC hoses were different from the Borgeson set. Any other details/info greatly appreciated, I was happy to find this thread.

I put this box on my 64 Sport Fury. Due to the engine sitting farther forward than 66-up b bodies, My headers hit badly in a couple spots. The headers fit fine with the stock ps box. I bought the kit from GMachine. Kept getting the squealing at full turns. There are two fittings he sells. Mine was originally the smaller one. The coupler is expensive, but works great. Had to shim the box a little to get a straight line to the column. Ended up also getting his pump, which puts out more pressure. When it was all done, it works really well. I know the cars are different, but my main point is they worked with me to sort out the issues. Exchanged the fitting for the larger one, and answered all my questions. I have the Firm Feel in my Dart, and it's nice, but just about the same price when it's all done.
 
Just an FYI to all of those interested, I got the latest Mopar Muscle magazine yesterday and there is an article in there on installing the Borgeson power steering box & pump in a Dart. Good step-by-step walk through and lots of photos.
 
How much smaller is the Borgeson box from the factory P/S one? I got a Firm Feel Stage 2 box way back in like 2009 (which still works SUPERB, feels like a modern car) before the Borgeson unit came out and for my future 5.7 Hemi swap I'm thinking of just going to a manual box with electric power steering adapted out of a new car for clearance in the engine bay.

Just ordered mine from Bergman auto craft Sunday. I’m hoping it shows up by the weekend. Anyway that gives me a few days to get the old box out so I can slap the new one right in when it shows up.
Can’t wait to get it installed and go for a spin.
Also I think I’ll take the opportunity while the box is out to make a little gusset out of some 1/8” steel and weld it in to help support the box mounting area.

It's a good upgrade! If you're running Dougs headers then you might (it all depends) have to ding the tube. If you want me to take a picture, I can.
