My car is a 1970 Dart Swinger. The drive train is this, 418 stroker 501 hp 521 tq. Currently has a 4 spd but I'm going to change to a 904 reverse pattern manual valve body, before I brake more parts! The car has an 8 3/4 with 3.91's. I have SS springs 002/003, Rancho adjustable shocks, adjustable pinion snubber, six cylinder T-bars and Calvert 90/10's up front. For tires I'm going to try a set of Hoosier Quick Time Pro's 27-10.5/15's on 15 x 7's, I think they will fit?? So far I've gone 12.40's @ 112+ with some 275 55d/14 Hoosier Quick times, that's with a lot of spinning!

Can I get it to hook up with the new tires and the 904? or will I have to minitub and move the springs in board? Tell me what you think?

The 904,will make life easier, than the 4 spd.The secret to consistency ,is one step at a time.Start a log book.Every change you do ,record in that book.

What are your 60' times now. 500hp should be closer to 125mph in the quarter. You either had a very friendly dyno or you have some serious issues somewhere.

The 904 and taller tires will be a big help. 4 spd's are a ton of fun but unless you have Ronnie Sox ability getting one to hook is a real chore. I don't see a problem hooking with the new combo. I don't know the torque of my 408 but I bet it's close to 500 and it hooks pretty darn good considering I just have HD springs, no snubber, soft bars, 90/10 shocks or any other sort of traction aid. All I did was slap on a set of Nitto drag radials.

My 60' is only 1.9's. The tires I've been using are way too small. I have to really baby it off the line and I'm pretty sure it's spinning all the way through the traps. It has gone sideways in 3rd and even 4th gear. The 4 spd is fun but I'm not Ronnie Sox! I just wanted to know if other people got similar engine combo's to hook up with out minitubbing. My goal is to get it into the 10's eventually. I'd like to do it on the small tire with no tubs, sleeper effect! Probably won't be able to hook it up that well, but I'm going to try!

You learn the auto setup,1.7 60's easy.P.M Petty blu dart....

Definetely not 60'in. Not sure you'll pick up a ton with the larger Quick time. When you switch to the 904 make sure you get a good converter and you'll probably need slicks to really run hard.

With the proper setup and some experimenting you should be able to knock alot off your et. LXguy runs 11.70's @ 113.0 with 350ish hp. in this car..........

chuck lofgrens cuda runs 8s with ss springs ..do you have frame connectors. i have all the same parts as you less the snubber and 11.50s at 121 in street trim oh i have 325-50-15 nitto drag radials also and 391s

Way different setup,Ricky.LX,no stroker,trans brake.Strokers ,always an animal to hook up.500+ ft./lbs.from 2000 ,to 5000+.This is badass.Forgot LX'S Cal tracs,by the way.Yes,002/003 springs need a snubber...

The chassis book recommends a snubber for the 4spd set at 0-1/2". For the automatic you don't have to have one but recommends one for safety set at 1-2". By the way, I love the way your Duster looks, that thing is awesome!

bomber, your right about the stroker. Maybe he should talk to flyfish......

I know Chuck Lofgren, that's where I did my motor about 4 years ago. I do have weld in subframe connectors but they don't pass through the floor. I need to step up to the better frame connectors that go through the floor and a 8 point rollbar to stiffen up the body.

thanks..on the snubber i thought i was right but like most times i was wrong.

chuck done my engine also

my 73 440 dart has been a best of 10.68 at 125 in the 1/4 on a set of M/T 275/60/15 ET drag radials. It has the mopar 002/003 super stock springs, the cheep summit 90/10 shocks and some dodge ram charger shocks in the back.only had the springs moved and frame connectors installed. my best 60 has only been a 1.55 but most of the time i am at 1.56-1.58 I only have a 4500 stall so my car is a little slow of the line. Hope this helps. mopar65. oh here is a pic of my car.

If you don't already have the SS springs you might consider going with a full Cal-trac setup, bars, shocks and springs. I've seen quite a few small tire cars get in the high 10's with that setup. They cost more than SS springs but they work great.

Every little bit helps. Your track let's you run that fast with no rollbar?

was that ? for me? if so yes they do but i need to stop racing it until i get one put in. also for got when i ran the 10.68 i was running 4.10 gears but blew them up on the 5 pass so have installed 4.30 gears now. nice car you have. also i am wanting to build the 73 duster i bought a while back so i will probly have the roll bar put in the 73 duster. mopar65

I already have the SS springs, so I'm hoping to keep using them. If I have to change things to Caltracs I will. I'll even 4 link it if I have. I'll only do that if I can't get what I have to do the job.

i wouldnt give up on the super stock springs just yet. i think you can get more out of it with some tuning. mopar65

Oh no, I won't give up on SS springs. I'm just getting started. I just wondered how fast other Darts or cars with the limited tire space were running. I know the stock eliminator cars run really fast on 9" slicks.

well best of luck to you sir. also for got to say that the wheels i am useing are 15x8 with 4.5 BS. if you have your springs moved in 3 inches perside you can ran the same wheel/ tire set up that i am if you wanted to. mopar65

IMO,

Snubber = Door stop. Don't need it on a good SS spring set up. Clamp the snot out of the front segments and loosen up the rears. The rear shackle angle is CRITICAL to proper operation. Is the pinion angle right?

Make darn sure the rear shocks are long enough.

It will be easier to hook the auto than a 4 gear.

1.9 60's is not good. It only runs 112 mph with the 500 hp engine? Something isn't right! 500hp at 3300 should be in the 120 range at a minimum is my guess.

With a good set up and a 4500 converter, that car should 60' in the 1.4x range.
