Cold Case Radiator what fan and shroud are you using ?

-
soooooo anyone following this......i measured the mount for the fan shroud wrong from original to Cold Case. the original i measured from the top tank, which is thicker then the core on both the CC And original. Measuring from the core and the mount on the CC is wrong....its too close to the motor. The fan blades are too far inside of the shroud now and the car heats up when sitting still now. I'll remove my shroud extension i riveted on and fill the holes with some expoxy and then mount the shroud inside of the CC channel and see how that helps. by my eye...that would but the fan 1/2 in the shroud and 1/2 out. as it is now...its 3/4 in and 1/4 out and that isn't working right. really sucks i measured wrong and went of drilling holes for rivets....and experimenting with an original shroud. these dang things aren't cheap!!

the whole reason i even put the CC in was because the original got the radiator neck smooshed and i could not figure out why i would randomly peak to 200 plus on the highway when driving. it would then cool back down and repeat that same cycle. it would also always empty the overflow tank. i put a new cap on and that sorta helped.....but that smoosh was too much i guess. the CC radiator completely solve that problem.....just gotta get the shroud back on right.

Update . The way I made it work was I used a slant six fan shroud but flipped it upside down that seemed to do the trick..The gap from the shroud to the radiator went from 1.5” to about .5” maybe even less . I can live with that …

Car has been running at 180 . I was idling in line at at the drive thru at in n out burgers at 7pm on a Friday (~25 min)85-90 degrees outside and it didn’t see past 195 degrees .

Come to think of it, my shroud is a /6 turned 180°.

mine is a V8 shroud. after popping all the rivet holes in it...instead of filling them in....I just added a couple of aluminum strips at the top and bottom to cover it all up and stiffen the shroud. The shroud was also bowing in the middle as it was a tight fit in the channels vs mounting it on top of the channels. it now just slides down in the channel and is held in with plastic bumper rivets. the aluminum strip on top and bottom holds it straight. I still am slowly heating up when sitting still....not nearly as bad as before though. could be worked out in the tune on my EFI controlling timing at this point. driving the car around its fine. Also could just direct mount the fan instead of using a clutch. but for now....its good enough. also....yes that's Herculiner with clear polyurethane on top. engine bay paint was a disaster and outside was decent enough. budget was out...so that's what happened and honestly...it looks really good if you ask me.

The radiator I bought was a MOP755A which moved the lower hose to the passenger side. This gave me the ability to use a newer style aluminum water pump. Other than that it changes nothing. I am very happy with the way the radiator fits and looks now it's just figuring out what fan and shroud to use. THANK YOU to Chris and Ken at COLD CASE for helping me out. Great Guys to deal with.
Except now u have 3/4 inch less room from pump to rad. Kim

They weren't "great guys" for me to deal with at all. They never returned calls or emails or messages through here. We also had two radiators when I was working with Matt that slap didn't fit and were told to modify the CARS. These were both deep six digit builds. I think both those radiators are still in Matt's scrap pile unless he's made the run already.

I purchase a MOP755A radiator from cold case. I also purchased a mopar pn 2998325 fan shroud. They told me either this shroud or a 2785614 shroud would work. I ordered the 2998325 since it is going on a 71 Dart. The shroud does not fit at all. A 1” gap is not fitting. I ended up damaging the radiator removing the riv nuts, trying to get this to fit. I was making modifications based on some threads on this forum. This was my fault. I should have just returned it. They really need to tell people that factory shrouds do not fit. They now tell me the 2785614 shroud would be “better suited” for this radiator. In fairness, they did answer my emails and offered to give me a special discount on another one. I almost did, but ended up ordering a griffen exact fit that is supposed to arrive this week. I hope this one fits as it’s 2.5 times the cost of the cold case.

Maybe this might help as I ran into this common problem too. I have a Champion #526 radiator in my 72 Demon. 408 stroker motor. I looked at MANY different setups and ended up using a Jegs #555-52115 dual fan assy. It took a bit of fab work using little screws and such but I was very happy with the clean look once done. I control the fans separately with switches and to date, this setup seems to keep the engine cool even in 90+ deg weather. Some pics:

Here is the fan unit itself mounted to the rad before I stuck it in the car. Note that when I installed it, I also added some flat alum strips to close the open gaps where the fan barely extends past the rad on the sides.

Hope this helps!!
Well done that looks very neat and tidy.

Hard to believe it's been over 3 years since my original post in this thread. Since then I moved from Michigan to Florida and thought maybe an update would be appropriate.

I can say that driving the avatar around down here in the summer heat has continued to show this cooling setup to be sufficient. 95+ degree ambient temps and, with both fans running, rarely if ever see temps over 190. Generally they are in the 175-180 range if the ambient is that high. On cooler days, it runs in the 165-170 range with maybe 1 (or none) fans running. At the track, I keep 1 fan running during the burnout and run and, at the end of the 1/4 mile, see temps of about 180-190. Flip on the 2nd fan and the temp is usually back below 170 when I get back to the pits.

It has been quite pleasing to know if I get caught up somewhere, overheating is (so far) not a worry. So kudos for the Champion rad and Jeg's dual fan setup!
