Cross ram intakes on a small block

fun fact , they made 2 bases..I think your right but I didnt think it was aftermarket? Does it say BuddyBarr on the bottom or BB? Mine had the home made bypass nipple too but it came out diagonally iirc, ill have to look up some pix.
Pishta, ironracer was talking about the tall hood scoop.

I though it was just the shape or clocking of the water neck and the bypass port position, very minor. I had the same one you have. Had a 90 NPT nipple for the bypass. Same Buddy Bar casting, mine never had the original cast top. If you could integrate some sort of pop off provision (ie a core plug) or even a Ford EGR carb base with a rubber cap on the spud so it will have a chance to vent any backfire to save buckling that $$$ top.

I think top one is early (diagonal boss) and bottom one is more common seen version '1.1'?. Not an authority on these but I did own the lower pic model. May wanna goop the mounting bolts so there is no vacuum leak past them as a few are inside the plenum.

I'm real curious about your kickdown set up as I'm running an automatic as well.

This was a real trial and error effort and it took 3 tries to get it right. Some of the keys to success were to make the arms on the shaft all the same height and all the same distance between the center of the shaft hole and the center of the top hole be the same spacing as the distance between the shaft and linkage knob on the carb. If you then locate the linkage shaft in line with the shaft on the back carb, it all works easily and it happens that the kickdown linkage location is perfect behind the front carb. When you get that far send me a PM and I'll send some photos and a diagram to make all this clear.

But its a cross ram. They were cool looking on the Max Wedge's and the 67 Z28's Tuning them is the head ache. Bryans was built and dynoed at Ray Bartons . There is a science to tuning those intakes. They are not like tuning a inline style.[/QUOTE

I seem to remember that the diagonal boss STR-12 were the early ones.

Maybe that straight bypass hose was for the old cast iron water pumps? Not sure, but mine is angled and the bypass hose fits just like a stock intake, but mine is the 70 and up waterpump. Nevermind my filthy engine, I'd rather drive it than clean it.

My kickdown was a standard linkage affair to the front 390 carb and then I ran a bike brake cable off the front of that carb linkage around the front to other Holley 390 I had installed backwards. One pulled the other open 1:1. It made sense when I did it with what I had, but 2 holleys facing forward with a hard linkage between them looks allot less ghetto. I still think it was under carbed: 2 600's or 625's

This on ebay for STR-12 only. Price increased.

Yep I bought one of those right away and a couple plenum gaskets while I was at it. Mike hooked me up with a couple of those "340 dual quad cross ram" decals for the air cleaners too (THANKS BUD) I'm still undecided on the finish but the wheels are turning.
