Cuda SRT8 392 Gen.III Hemi

Nice build! I'm in the Fairfield area so I'm looking forward to seeing you at some local Bay Area shows. The blue on my hardtop is a beautiful color. It's like an indigo blue pearl. It looks good on some cars and not as good on most. It will be at the next goodguys show in the pleasonton in the car corral. It's an older resto but still looks pretty good. My convertible is the one getting the royal treatment. I was going to go the 6.1 route but I already have a pretty wicked blown small block that I'm going to run. I've started the paint process doing it piece by piece so I can make sure everything is perfect. It's black so my bodywork has to be spot on.

Nope!!! Body work has to be spot on anytime, at all times for ANY color!!

Having a trained eye to see what most people think is a perfect finish is way different than what I see. I agree all bodywork no matter what should be done properly but some color hues can hide imperfections. Ill post pictures of the trunklid I just sprayed and I guarantee 95 percent of people that see it will think its perfect, but I'm a lot pickier. Granted pictures don't make up for seeing it in person but it gives you a good idea.

My brother has used it on a dozen or so projects. From floor pans, truck beds, rockers, etc. I can see if he has any pics of the liner sprayed out.

My demon is still in metal work phase. Bumpers and the front valance is done now, finally. I don't have a current build thread, progress is slow

Thanks RJ. I was talking to a guy today who distributes Raptor. He says you can thin the stuff up to 10%. I think I'm going to get a little; thin it and try spraying it through a finer nozel I'll make for my shutz gun; see if I can get the effect I'm looking for.

Got a photobucket link or something for your car I can look at? I know how "slow" is. Sometimes we need a break from these time consuming projects. It helps re-kindle our enthusiasm. :burnout:

As I mentioned earlier, I'm looking at solid colors rather than metallics, pearls or candies. I'm familiar with the electric blue, but it's a little too dark and it's a metalic/pearl so it's a no-go. Thanks though, I appreciate the input...

We'll definately have to meet up sometime at one of the shows. Mopardude is from the area also. The Indigo is a real nice blue. A friend of mine has a Cobra replica in that color with graphite stripes. Good looking car, but as with the electric blue, it's a metallic/pearl and it's even darker yet. I definately want to keep it on a mid-blue shade so I can use the matte black 'Cuda package trim on it and have a nice contrast.

Thanks for the pics of that PB Cuda. Your Dart and that Cuda certainly look nice, but I'm seeing too many Mopars showing up in that color these days. I'm want to use a color that's not been done quite so much. Unfortunately the nice colors are popular and therefore get used a lot.

Yeah, that Indigo is way too dark for me. Very nice looking, but too dark for what I want. By the way, could you delete the big *** picture of that Japanese tub? What kind of car is that? It really is an eye sore for me (LOL) and is really messing up this page, making it super wide. Would appreciate it. :)

Thanks for that post. There sure are some sweet Mopars out there huh? Damn nice! For a good contrast with black, it is still too dark. Plus it's a metallic. The more I see all the shades of blue, I'm starting to swing more and more toward the blue on AJ's race car.

I have an 18" x 18" aluminum color palet I'm putting together to spray out the contenders I have so far. When I get it all sprayed out, I'll take a pic and post it. Side by side comparison with matte black striping on the bottom will show what each color will look like with the black. Hopefully I can get it sprayed out this weekend...

Yeah, it may sound like it. The truth is though, I've been "on to" several colors over the years of this car's build. My wife and close friends have had to hear of my decisions over the years as they changed from red, to black, to the "new gen. B5 Blue" and then on to these newest contenders. The new B5 is no longer a contender because of my new Challenger and the fact my painting situation won't accomodate a metallic paint.

Here's a pic of the B5 on an '08 Charger SRT8. The contrast with matte black is real nice, so I'm looking for something in a solid (probably blue) that will contrast equally as nice. The Butterscotch and new Hemi Orange are strong considerations too. I'll probably waffle back and forth until the day I go down to the paint store and have them mix it up. Then there will be no turning back...

I just found an ad for a Tilton Super Starter that's set up to work on a Gen.3 with 727 TF. It's configured similar to the Ram truck starter I'm using (solenoid on top instead of on the side like the Mopar mini starter). Says to check out ATIracing.com...
 
Thanks for the link Jim. That Tilton starter would be excellent for a high compression race motor, but is probably expensive and overkill for a stock compression Hemi. I like the stock starter which looks slightly smaller and is available pretty easily from a Chrysler dealer, should you have a starter go bad while out on a road trip somewhere.

Attached is a pic of my upper radiator hose. Note the thermostat end is bigger than the radiator end. This is not just stretched to fit on. It is literally bigger on the one end. I measured the thermostat outlet and the radiator outlet and then went down to a local "hard parts" type auto supply store (not a chain store like Kragen, etc). They sell Good Year hoses and have a full catalog with a picture and dimensions section as well as by "application" section. I looked up the end dimensions I needed and then went and looked at a picture of it. Low and behold, there was the perfect hose, just a little too long on one end. I trimmed down the long end and she went on perfect.

For the bottom hose, I'm am using a standard 6.1 Charger hose. It is a bit too long for my narrower car and dimensions, so I went with an aluminum, nippled coupler tube from a hot rod shop website I found. The couplers come in different lengths, depending on what size you need.

Hope this helps those of you still struggling with the different sizes of outlets found on these engines vs. the radiators available for these cars and/or conversions.

The part number tag is stored away, but from what I remember the "application" is for the BOTTOM hose on either a 1994 or 2004 (I forget which one) Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6 cyl. I believe I may have had to trim both ends, but it worked out real well...

It would help more than one member if you could dig out the p#.

Unfo Jeep stuff isnt a "stock item" in most places in Australia...so we cant just visually inspect them "in store".

Knowing which hose to order will make the Champion radiators Jasonmdister and I are running much more of a direct swap in.

I'll make a run to the auto parts store this week. I'll look at both 2004,1994 and see what we have. Should be in stock if all else fails, I'll order both and return the wrong one.
