Cool. Keep us posted. If everything's workin like it should, I lean towards maybe a bad oil ring "or somethin".

Yep it's a combo PCV/breather. I've gone through two of em at this point. I ordered an oem style replacement in the meantime, should be here tomorrow.

    That's not aiding in sealing.
Its just removing pressure...the ring has the same tension and seal it had before.

    You're entitled to your opinion.
    Live long and prosper.

May it never burn when you pee.

Do us a favor... and do a leak down test with and without a pcv and report back.
Make sure its the same engine temp for each test too.

    Chop chop

Tell us how the rings seal more.

How does this happen when you can look into the valve cover and see the camshaft valley? That's about as open as you can get...? I'm baffled....

That article mentions Fred Cooke, I know that guy personally! I met him during his North American 'tour' when he was on holiday here and he basically hopped from house to house of guys in his EFI forum helping them with their tuning or installs in return for a place to crash at night and food for as long as needed. I drove down to Fallbrook to meet him at another guys house and ended up buying him lunch as we all talked about his EFI boards. I still got his board. Very smart guy, but was a dick.

            Compression test results:
            1: 86 psi
            2: 110 psi
            3: 95 psi
            4: 94 psi
            5: 80 psi
            6: 80 psi

Replaced the trans cooler hose with PCV hose. While idling, there's plenty of vacuum coming from the carb and with the PCV breather removed from the valve cover, there was quite a bit of vapor/air coming from the hole. Took the car for a drive and I'm still getting oil spraying out of the dipstick tube, etc.

The numbers are definitely low, but as I said in my initial post, the car never smoked at all before the intake/carb swap.

While going through the service manual, it occurred to me that I never bothered to check and see how well the regular breather I installed at the front of the valve cover flowed.

Turns out, it was not flowing well at all, in fact I could barely blow or suck through it. So removed some of the foam material in it and opened up the baffle a bit, now it's getting good flow through it. Took the car for a drive and so far it seems as if the problem is fixed. I'll continue to drive the car and report back with any continuing tomfoolery.

I bet you have a ridge on them all, the rings/bores are shot.

Id pull it and have it honed to the next size, buy pistons, have them polish the crank, touch up the rods and press the new pistons on... slap it together.
Most slant pistons are weighted for a drop in, 'stock weight'. Yoy could have this all better for about 600 bucks.

Atm your fix is just burning the oil in the cylinders now. You're feeding the blowby into the carb.

Maybe your CC is overfilled. If the crank is beating up the oil, yur gonna have problems.
Maybe yur trans is slipping or yur screaming down the road in second gear.
Maybe yur compression test is low because the gauge is lying.
Maybe the numbers are low because the valves need adjusting or the oil got washed off during cranking.
Maybe the numbers are low because you didn't crank long enough to get two consecutive, about same pressure, numbers.
Or maybe the cam is outta time.
Yaknow, I seen a screw-in compression gauge one time that had the wrong type Schroeder valves installed in it, and that was all it took to make a liar out of it.

The point is just because the gauge says your engine has crummy compression, doesn't make it true.
                I recommend a second opinion.

                Btw;
did you do anything else at or just before the intake swap, other than the swap? Like maybe an oilchange? Cuz I have seen some crappy oils in my life, that smoked pretty bad.
And oil mixed with gas, in the CC will smoke too.
