Father-Son 1974 Duster Project

It's hard to beat the looks of those TUFF WHEEL steering wheels. They're not to gaudy and look sporty. I like the padded feel too.

Dash assembly looks sweet!
Yeah, the dash just came together out of nowhere. I was determined to get a tach in the dash somewhere. Had a few ideas many pages back about possibly cutting in the 2-1/2" tach where the idiot lights are in the cluster. I had a collection of bezels and gauges but wasn't loving any combo. I asked my buddy Al to stop by so I could get his opinion on a few things, mostly about what to do before the car is put into storage while I move and remodel my new house. When we got to the dash frame I asked his opinion on restoring the plastic chrome on the bezels etc. His idea to cut the radio portion off the heater control bezel just took off and then we discussed the tach location and the addition of the temp and oil pressure gauges. I liked the satin black out of the chrome on the bezels but all black was just too plain, so doing the wood grain overlays gave a nod to the 70's while still making it really simple. Then someone shamed me into getting my dash pad recovered. I think it will suit the car just fine.

I agree John. It's going to compliment the dash well. Being someone who has driven GM trucks and SUVs most of my adult life, I like the firm padding and the grip that the new tuff wheel offers over what was stock to the Duster.

For the record....I did not shame you into getting the dash pad recovered. Lol I just know that once that thing is bolted to the dash and the dash is bolted to the firewall, and that front glass goes in you don't want to have to go back after getting it out. Invariably you will scratch, chip, break something.

You and a few others convinced me not to be stupid...

Dartn440 HATES that the garden tools are here...lol

He would would rather they be on the other side where that kids put their stuff so they get maimed if a rake gets knocked off the wall...

Thats a lil' scary around all that fresh paint, and the kids would heal! lol

You guys are funny! She is going to her own private storage unit soon while I add on over the garage at the new place. Supposed to close around the middle of the month. They hook me up with power at the storage place so I can continue to accomplish things a few evenings a week...
I ain't askeerd...

We got Misty all packed up and ready to tow dolly over to storage tomorrow. I need the garage space to stage my move.
I thing a few of you will be happy to know I have decided on the child labor route! We're going to use 2 16' pods.

I'm going to get my back bumper mounts done in the weeks leading up to the move. And I'd like to get the front seat upholstered after that. Kind of thinking black pleather with red piping.

I can't have the car at our new house while the construction is going on. Too much going on onsite to even consider it. Makes me sad to have to put her in here, but she's out of harms way.
As soon as we close its full throttle on the renovations to the new house....

DD, there is no chance little critters are going to try to make a home? I really don't know a way to keep them out. Maybe someone on here has thoughts.

We've had pretty good luck using moth balls around the tires, on top of the tires, on the air cleaner, in the trunk, etc... I wouldn't guarantee it'll keep mice away but it seemed to work for us.

You should have photoshopped some garden tools on the walls. Lol

That was what I was thinking. A nice king snake, black rat snake....oh never mind. Lol I am just thinking winter = cold = critters moving in to get warm.

Now that's funny!
I had the car at this same facility when I was remodeling my current home. Never any trace of any little buggers in the past. But you guys have raised a good point so I will go get some mothballs and a few glue boards just in case.
I hate moving...

So I was thinking about using an ABS headliner, but now I'm reconsidering. My car came with 4 headliner bows mixed in with a ton of other parts just thrown in the trunk. My buddy Al had a look and wondered what the bows attach to in the car. He said it wasn't at all like his 69 Dart GTS. I'm going to to look in manuals I have for 63 body and chassis manuals to see if I can sort it out. If anyone can enlighten me with a few pictures I'd appreciate it!

DD, I am sure someone will beat me to the punch, but I just bought three Duster parts cars. When I start to dismantle I will let you know what I see. I pulled down the cardboard one out of the Demon and small c-shaped clips held the liner to the backboard. It all snugged up under the roof line trim. The C Pillar or Sail portion was separate. Mine was disintegrating so I trashed it. I found some ABS replacements, but I can't tell you about quality or fit, not there yet.
