Is my car a Tag Job? Barracuda Decode...

What about the Trunk Number?! Anybody?
Standing here with a Putty knife and Brake Clean about to not have a trunk seal anymore...
Sorry, no clue on the 65's. All that will tell you if the rear end id the same parts as the front end is. Hey listen, not to bust you but the car came with a slant 6 according to a character in your vin and in the fender tag. At this point it's a moot point. You bought a pretty nice car for not much money and it now has a V8 in it. The hard work is done. Is it a 273 or a 318? drive it and enjoy!

I know your mad at me, sorry. The number on the trunk rail would match the SEQ on the fender tag, not the VIN. And it's buried in paint, so finding will require a little searching. Should be closer to the upper corner, drivers side. But I have seen them up and down the flange.

uh, see post #1

I'd say, as long as you got the car registered in your name without any trouble, don't sweat it. That is, as long as YOU are happy with it. I don't think you gave too much for it, even if it may have been misrepresented. Only you can make the determination if that's "ok" with you or not. Now, if the VIN on the door doesn't match the rest of the stamped areas, that would kinda upset me. I mean, then if you ever decide to sell, it could be tough.

That's the problem. I'm 500 hrs into a resto, where do I stop if this car is worthless in resell?

She reveals nothing...

Ha! I'm not Mad at You! Lol I am a lil pissed at myself for investing 10grand into a stolen car tho...

But that's the worst case. You don't know that "yet" so try not to go there. lol Keep looking. That number is stamped back there "somewhere".

According to the site above, the SEQ is NOT on the trunk rail in 65. Sorry. I know my 67 Dart had it there.
And you don't know it stolen, maybe there was a body tag swap with 2 valid titles. Not the worst thing, but not the best either.

And sequence numbers are fender tag and body number matches. If you "loose" the fender tag, then it's a Barracuda with an engine swap.
I still think that tag sequence number is a very low number.

So it might be wise to throw that Fender tag in my toolbox then?

Yea, if your worried about it. Did you get any better read on the front rad support number?
Sorry I sent you on a wild goose chase, I should have done some more research.

from what I can see the fender tag and the core support are no-where close.
the fender tag is 00025 and the core support looks like 00105...

You could request a copy of the IBM card from Chrysler Historical Based on the VIN tag. I’d also go back to whoever you bought the car from see if they switched tags. I can also tell you that if someone tried to register that car in North Carolina the state would remove that door tag and assign it a state issued ID.

I read the vin number off to my inspection guy myself. noone else looked at it. registered in missouri.

The body stampings and fender tag will NOT match the VIN. The VIN is only in one place on '68-older Mopars. Also, the shipping order number (that's what's on the fender tag) has nothing to do with the order of the cars being built. Only the VIN does and that is not an absolute with the cars coming off the line in sequence.

I wanted to match the body to the fender tag...
They don't. My Car was never a /6 car.
I've determined that it is in fact someone's tag job.

The VIN is not on the fender tag as Jim stated earlier. But the fender tag SO number will match the support stampings. You just have the wrong fender tag.

7?0400105 Looks like your month was obliterated. Still an 04th day production. I thought the 2nd stamping was under the rear window rubber seal? Don't go scraping yet. Let's get @clifftt or @cosgig or @Lee Robinson to chime in. They probably have seen it if it exists other than on the rad support.

So vin tag for this year cant be matched to a fender tag? That's pretty messed up. Like you said earlier throw the fendertag in toolbox.
The vin looks hokey tho.

The two numbers can be matched with a Broadcast sheet or the IBM card, which I believe you can still get from Chrysler.
