Thank you Fred, I will hurt your head more later when I am closer to spraying. Base/Clear is the way I will go for sure then.

I am painting the car apart so it will be solid only and since I am still recovering from the back surgery and it will not be in the next few weeks. The car will be on a rotisserie so I am optimistic even I will make it shinier that a sheet of 320 grit. Maybe!

Get better soon Jeff And give me a headache any time.
And if you paint the car with a gun you did all the priming with let me know so I can send you my Sata gun so it turns out better.
I hate to see some one paint a car with a primer gun.

Just my .02 cents Jeff but after having Fred in my shop and speaking to him and showing him my self taught self done redneck paint jobs. He is being way past humble here. He has forgot more about painting than most folks know. I would wear him out with questions once you get ready to paint. He asked me what kind of spray gun I used and all I could do was shrug "I dunno" it is in a red box! I didn't even know there was a different gun for primer and finish. Yep I did my whole car with one gun one set of nozzles. I did paint it in a barn tho so that should count for something! As an aside our boy is up for his first look at becoming an E8 this next month. While he understands he will get passed over due to first look he is still excited. He is/was 82nd has jump master wings etc. He is in Army just to piss me off. I was only one dumb enough in family to join Marines. We are very proud of him in spite of his service choice! Hah!

You know what sir, I have a sneaking suspicion that young man just might surprise you and not get passed over on his first pass kn the E8 promotion cycle. He might just have joined that "other" green service to prove something to himself that his old man did not.

Good for him!

I don't think Fred remembers but he and I discussed a few paint related discussions about a year ago. I stopped progression on my Dart when I had a 3rd knee replacement followed shortly by a 5 level laminectomy. I have done a whole lot of reading and I think I am quite well equipped to do this now. I will lean on him though! He's a hell of a guy!

Thank you for reaching out Sublime, I appreciate the help and comeradery I get from the folks here. It makes it worthwhile to put up with the few jerks you run into from time to time.

Please wish the young lad good luck on the board, and good health. Tell him to keep his helmet on, his plates in his vest and his NVG batteries fresh.

Roger that good Sir! I told him if he pulled his side panels like we did he wouldn't have to worry I would trash him. Owe my life to a Navy corpsman. They are handy to have around we you need em! He has done really well. Iraq twice, granny land once. He is now on the recruiting circuit, he was not DI material. Hah! He is a station chief and has the top station. We are glad he is safe. He has blessed us with two great grandkids! Proud of what we have all done but not sure I want grandkids to follow in our foot steps. Inevitabley they will follow their own path. I too have found this forum a total hoot. For most part folks are great and supportive. I have learned a bunch as somebody on here has already likely got the shirt for the problem we face. Always got the occasional guy that needs to take their hat off to pee tho. Hah!

I sure do remember Jeff and after we met all the guys that were more knowledgeable than me showed up some were real good knowledge and some were ok. I try to stay out of people trying too be the top dog as I have small man syndrome and get pissed off real fast. I tried to fallow what you were doing but got lost in all the turmoil.
Jeff you been through hell and so has John. I still have my back and knees and see what you both have been doing. You got my atta boy.

And one more thing John I was over whelmed by your garage when I was there, not only was your booze the best I have seen and drank but have never seen so many tool boxes in one mans shop. I wanted to go through every drawer and just look.
What I am saying is you got a hell of a man cave.

Morning Mark, what's on the to do list today?
I get to clean bathrooms today.

Happy Friday guys. I tried to find a decent burnout Video that you haven't seen already but they are now mostly GM and Ford trying to do one. Maybe next Friday but have a great weekend and if you're still working don't watch that dam clock because I'm sure it slows it down.
Don't forget the clocks go back Sunday.

I'm working on a 10hp snow blower and have to replace the drive gear on the starter and just got the parts yesterday. This thing hasn't run for 8 years. I put some gas in it and pull started it and second pull fired up but didn't run worth crap so will be taking the carb apart and cleaning that up then a general service.
It has a Techumseh motor and they are nice to work on. If it had one of those Chinese engines I would have even looked at it. They are garbage. Briggs are always good too. Both engines are easy to get parts for. May go do some shopping too as things are running low.
Can't believe all the Xmas stuff out there right now and we haven't even had Nov 11th yet. Guess the stores think that is more important than our Vets. Time to get off my soapbox.

I am surprised it ran that fast after that long but it is a good engine. Hope you can clean out the carb. without needing any parts.
I get upset when they start Xmas early like this, and our Vets put on the back burner pisses me off.

Guess that money is more important Fred. Typical big business isn't it.

Yes it is Mark. I don't do Xmas because of it.
We do Xmas but don't and never have gone into debt buying tons of presents for everyone. That missis the whole concept. We buy some nice gifts or just give money (money is a lot easier to give and a gift they always like). Xmas is all about the family getting together and having good times. You buy kids toys etc and they play with them for a while then get added to the pile. Our kids go through the toys once or twice a year and the ones that aren't played with anymore goes to the charity shops. A lot of kids expect large very expensive things like TV's, cell phones, tablets etc. When we were kids we got 1 present from mom and dad and got a load of stuff in our stockings like an orange, some candy etc and we were happy. Too bad we couldn't go back to simpler times.

Happy Friday guys!

Boy, it sure doesn't make me feel bad to hear you discuss snow blower repairs and know I don't have any!

Moving south from Wisconsin a few years ago was a blessing. Rural NC is still quite pretty but the weather is much more tolerable!

It's raining a little bit here but 70 degrees F. No chance of white contamination.

I guess when I was a kid I was less Scrooge like where snow is concerned.

Xmas was simple back then and was the same for me. I don't get a lot of presents for my kids and grand kids individually, once a year I buy something big that everyone can enjoy like one year was a jet ski did a few mini bikes and so on. This year it will be a big play ground set I hope.

Morning Jeff. I was down your way a few years ago and attended my daughters graduation in boot camp in SC. Nice place and it is beautiful there.
If you miss the snow then come on up none right now but soon I think.

Dam Jeff I should a kept my mouth shut it started to snow here. lol

Fred, what's your thoughts on this system? Although I've not painted a car in 20 years there had obviously been a whole lot of technology changes from my old Devilbiss suction cup gun. I have used cheap HVLP stuff for tractors and trailers but it looks like this will give me everything from primer to clear and sorta reasonable. No idea about the cups though!

3M Accuspray ONE Spray Gun Kit - 16578

Thank you sir!
