I've never seen that either but I assume the smaller the offset the finer the finish even though its still the same grit. Always a trade off. One finish sands better and another will remove paint better. Hence my chainsaw reference earlier.
Yessir I believe that is correct as you described it. It looks like the measurement is strictly the offset of the circles that the abrasive sheet makes from one revolution to another. Therefore the larger the offset it would seem the greater the swirls you would need to remove!
With my lack of experience it's not like I would attempt to color sand with a machine anyway. I guess my question for you guys that do this for a living is "would a more aggressive DA be a problem when final sanding the primer or spot putty."
one more quick thought is what is most available in quality paper - stick on or hook/loop?
