So finally got some free time to get started. Got the block on the stand and started painting it. I hate taping. I decided to go with Hemi Orange, it think it will end up looking good. Waiting on my bolts before I can start to assemble.

Got a little work done on the engine over the weekend. Crank is in and toqured to specs, ARP likes their toqure. Plasti-gaged on the mains, everythinf came out to .0013 which is on the tight side but I think it will be fine. Started to gap piston rings and get them set on the pistons but snapped one so I will need buy another set.

Rings are on there way. I was at a stand still so I decided to get everything else painted and ready so I can slap it all together when I get to them.

Well rings came in Monday, first day I had to get some work done. So had a buddy over to help get the pistons in. Went pretty smoothly and everything torqued down just fine. Last piston gave me a fit because the head dowl pin block the compressor from fitting flush to the block so it cocked the piston and I destroyed the lower compression ring and one of the oil rings. So notch the compressor and bam fixed. Got the cam installed too! Put the timing chain tensioner on and was going to do the timing gear and chain but my new cam did not have a key on it and the one from the magnum cam was way to small. So I take it there is two? One for a long snout and one for a short? Oh well will check into it.

Enjoy folks!

Well got bored waiting on parts to arrive so went out got a new air cleaner for this build. Then found a sticker I thought would be funny. Also painted all the shiny parts.

Got some part in, decided I was going to put the cam key in but that turned into my degreeing the cam. Then went on to putting heads on. They are not torqued but placed on. The. Decided to add the new intake and valve cover for effect. Looks pretty wicked.

Could not sleep last night so I went a head and got some work done. Had to notch the oil pump the fit correctly, only took 2 hours more then it should have. Then added lifters, they have been soaking in oil for awhile.

Oops forgot one, also went with Rhoads lifters. Supposedly help with idle, have a better bleed down for oil, and help with vacuum.

Cool. The reason i was asking was that late LA engines right before the magnum had roller cams. Looks like a nice build.

So with the day off I decided to get some work done. Think I am about finished. Timing chain cover on, water pump on, oil pick up tube on, pan on, intake on, valve cover on, and distributor in. So now I have to pick out headers, leaning towards Doug's but someone mentioned Sandersons and they make a shorter tube style. Kinda like them. But not sure. Still need plugs, wires, fuel pump bolts, find a dipstick that will work, thermostat housing, some hoses and belts, oil and temp sensor, but I think I'm narrowing it down.

Got an order of more small things trying to get this wrapped up. So ready for this engine to get installed. Recently noticed the 318 in there now using a bit of oil and then smoked just a bit on startup. So I'm.g guessing it's on it way out. Only thing holding me back right now is transmission, don't know if I should buy a new one, pull this one to build, or just say it's good enough slap a torque converter on it and go. It's seem fine, fluid looks good, shifts firm, doesn't slip. But I'm not sure. What you all think. also found a tire has been rubbing bad, so time to find new wheels and tires. Also pulled the scoop and painted it flat black after it have rock chips all over it, don't like the way it turned out so I'm going to redo it.

So got the old engine tore out today. Took about 9 hours from start to stand. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get the new one stabbed in.
