Looks like it's gonna be close. Now, what about the later big valve heads.

The heads can flow all they want. If they have a sissy *** motor all around them, it's worthless.

Castings #3782461X

These Heads came through with the {172 CC} Intake Runners.

Bill 'Grumpy' Jenkins went through many sets, to find the ones that had
6 to 8 greater CC volume.

Casting Numbers

#3782461 ........... 1964 thru 1966 ...... 327 'Fuel Injected' and Special High Performance

Note:
The 1st Year for the larger Valves {2.02" Intake and 1.60" Exhaust} was
in 1964.

First up, please explain the difference between tests 1&2 for the 340 head. 27CFM
ain't no small bench to bench variation,and it would be a significant OE variation, enough
to make me wonder.I have seen gifted X heads flow 240CFM, and 220 sounds like the low
end of the casting,the bowls are wider than J castings by a bit.
The numbers for the 461 look about right for those,there weren't any super changes
in the "double hump" line, but again gifted castings w/the larger OE valves are a plus if you
are running a class limiting mods.The newer open chamber SB chebby heads outflow those
handily,but run worse because the 2humps had a double squish chamber w/the fast burn
to go with it.
Lol,mopar definitely did NOT pattern the X after those things!!They for sure had a set
to see what the competition was doing,but there is nothing in common between them.The
BB chrysler and SB chevy have LOTS of things in common,most of them not good.Poor plug
location,valves open past and away from the cyl. center(big shrouding),etc.

Both Heads have the same identical Volume .. 171 CC's.

And, both Heads had the same identical Intake Throat size {1.59"}

I remember some of the earlier 461 castings,have bigger cc exhaust & a higher short side radius on the exhaust ports. Compared early '62-'63 castings,to later '66-'67 castings. Both unported,don't remember valve diameters... You know anything,about this 69 440 ?

Correct Mr. A-Body-Bomber

#3782461 Heads

Came both with > 1.94 / 1.50 and 2.02 / 1.60 Valves from 1964 and on.

The 1961 thru 1963 Heads, were definitely 1.94 / 1.50 {only}.

On the Exhaust Port, some of the Heads did come through with larger volume {63+ CC's}.

If a 340 was rated at 275hp and the mopar heads flow just as goods the GM, where did the GM 327 get that extra 90hp ( 360 hp ) advantage over ma mopar.

The battle of the 302 Chevy, 302 Ford and 340 Mopar was a good one in all forms of racing. the Chevy usually came out on top. The Ford head had such a large port and shitty air speed the Chevy would beat it up all the time proving more isnt better.

Thanks,'69 .. I didn't think I was doofy, when I saw those port's in the late '80's. ( listening to Hendrix, /'67 BBC sessions, great rock...)

Me thinks me smells some... Hold on... Yes definitely... Me smells some BULLSHIT

Horsepower

Well, we all know by now that the 340 was pushing 300 HP.

The NHRA was not fooled back then, and adjusted the Horsepower accordingly to '310'.

OK, regarding the 1963 Chevy Corvette 'Fuelie' ..... 327/360 HP

* Compression Ratio ................. 11.25-1 {Domed Pistons}
* #3782461X Heads .................. 1.94" Intake / 1.50" Exhaust ~ 58.2 CC's
* '097' ~ 'Mechanical' Camshaft .. .394"/.400" Lift ~ 287*/287* Duration ~ 66* Overlap
* Rochester Fuel Injection

Note; The #3782461X Heads had the large Intake Ports {171 CC}.

360 HP @ 6000 RPM's
352 Ft/Lbs. @ 4000 RPM's
