My 340 in my 66 developed issues :-(

Could be many reasons. Detonation, improper end gap, wrong ring, impacting the cylinder ridge , etc.

The bearing has had a piece of metal in it that caused that deep groove, but they are not worn all that much.
Does the crank look ok?

Yes, the crank measured out nicely and will only require a polish per the machine shop. My rods however have play in the bushing and are going to get rebushed and the big ends reworked.

Well I have a little down time now that my block is in the shop. I'm going .060 over, things measured well.

I have a question for you guys about my ignition system... What do I have? People ask me and I don't know what to tell them.. And is it a good system?
Can someone explain to me how this system works? What is the deal with the ballast? I'll post pictures of what I have...

Yeah It's a stock set up but yes they do a good job. The Orange ECU boxes have given people a lot of trouble since they started making them in China.

I thought the Orange box ran a dual ballast; Oneside for supply voltage to the ECU, and the otherside to the coil. Pic 106-B shows a single ballast

This is how mine looks, only one ballast. I'm just learning the system but maybe some have two..

Update:
I pulled the transmission tonight, going to have it rebuilt. Oil smelled a little burnt and a lot of metal sparkles in the oil. It sucks, but if I don't do it now it will most likely fail.
