My search for a shorty D100 is over

NICE SCORE. I am truly happy for you. I remember how long I looked for the 69 340 Barracuda I have had for about 33 years. No internet back then. It is a clean slate! I kind of like the idea or keeping it stock. I mean, how many trucks like that have you seen at a Mopar car show with a 225 three on the tree. That being said, I would 100% support you making it the truck you would have special ordered back in the day. Could you please tell me what Fleet Side means. Does that mean a bare bones truck? It really looks good in white.
Fleetside is Chevys term for the wheel wells on the inside and a smooth box on the outside, the opposite is a stepside in Chevy terms , many refer to Dodge trucks in the same term but it is incorrect Dodge uses Utiline for the fenders on the outside and sweptline for wheel wells on the inside.

Learn something new everyday. Thanks

That is definitely a concern. I want to drive the thing and not hate it, or be a nuisance to traffic. Which here is 75-80 mph. And on top of that, I have a mopar crate 360 and a 46RE sitting here built and ready to drop.

I have a fresh 727 in mine and already thinking about the 8HP. That’s what these bricks really need.

A slant is cool, they just run.
But this is a hell of lot more fun.

Cool! What’s the details on that engine?
360 mag, KB 107 pistons, stock crank and rods balanced, comp 262 roller cam, Eldebrock heads, gone thru by local machinist.
MI duel plane intake, 625 street demon carb.
Nothing fancy but it made good truck torque.

Took my cousin for a ride, the first time he was in it, opened it up real good, pulling a car trailer.
He said damn cousin this thing revs quick and pulls good.

An RPM air gap will pick up about 25hp on that engine.

I took a M1 single plane off, and removed the comp 280 cam, just to make truck torque.
Had no care about how much hp it made.

On mine (which is basically a stock magnum so yours will be more) the RPM AG also picked up torque from 409 to 423 over the M1 dual plane.

Somewhat similar building in mine. +.060 318, ported SM’s, Comp Magnum ductile roller rockers, China gap intake.
Similar drive experience as someone stated before. Design is like a shoe box ( but I like it) and you can feel something akin to parasitic loss due to wind resistance. The faster you go it exponentially feels like there is a parachute behind the truck.

These things need brute force and modern transmissions.

She’s FAR more interested in me finishing the falcon which has been renamed “her car”.
Falcon? Ford Falcon? What year and how equipped? Besides Mopars and 63-67 Corvettes, the Falcon Sprints with a 289 or 260 and a 4 speed are my next favorite cars. There is just something about them. Specially the convertibles in red/red. Could you post any pictures?

63 falcon futura 2 door. But it’s got a turbocharged fuel injected Honda J35 v6 on e85 and a Miata 6 speed manual in it with an 8.8 rear and 18x10s on all 4 corners. I just finished a complete TCI front end and I’m moving the engine back 8” so I cut out the firewall.

I had a drop-top '63 Falcon Sprint back in the mid '80's, but that 289 (anyone remember the 5 bolt bellhousing?) didn't look nuthin' like this!

Well done, sir!

Nice score! I had a 78 D100 SL6 3 on the tree about 15 or so years ago. It was very difficult to keep up with traffic and the slow shifting a 3 on the tree requires made it even more difficult. I have a feeling you'll be swapping it out sooner than later down in socal.
Daing, I had a 87 or was it 88 last year for the slant, 1/2 t. 4 speed OD. Heck I pulled B bodies and such on my 18 ft car trailer. No issue once I got it rolling!!! Back in the little hills of Mo.

Yeah I guess what I mean is it'll cruise just fine once you're already doing 75. The issue is getting it up to 75. If you have a short on ramp with a stock slant six in CA, you're a liability. I just drove my SL6 Duster to work this morning and I have to do everything in my power to ensure I have as much momentum as possible when I get ready to merge because there is no power in reserve there to get me out of a hairy situation.

Like you TT5.9mag, I have a 340 sitting on the shelf ready to go. I've had my SL6 Duster for over 20 years now but I think it's time to make the swap so I can enjoy driving it again. Love the reliability and gas mileage but those benefits aren't as important now that it's not my daily driver anymore.

When I first bought my falcon it had a 144 cu in straight 6 and a 3 speed. I think it was rated at 90hp or so. We drove it to and from the duct tape drags in Tucson the first year. 55 miles an hour for 9 hours. We got to the point where it wasn’t fun anymore. That’s why that car got the v6 and a 6 speed. Now it blasts along the freeway at 80mph running 1800 rpm and gets 30mpg. Oh and it makes 620hp!

I understand. 99% of my trailer pulling trucks had Cummins or at least a good v8/ BUT, I don't live in the friggin city or Ca.!!!!! :poke: :poke: :poke:

can confirm 55mph in a falcon is well past fun.

the L6 in those are just a nutless wonder and the suspension can best be described as somewhere between a rollerskate and raido flyer.

Awesome. Thanks for the pictures. I am curious how you came to choose the engine/transmission combo. I am NOT questioning/doubting it, I just wonder how it came about.
